William Eddie-Jones Flowers

William Eddie-Jones "Bil" Flowers passed away on Sunday. February 25,2024. He was 85 Bom on August 22, 1938 in Memphis, Tennessee, he was the third of George and Mary Jones Flowers' four chidren He attended Memphis Public Schools and enlisted in the miitary in 1960. He was deployed to Germany for a three-year stint in the U.S. Army. When he returned to the United States. he relocated to Detroit. where he maried Odessa Johnson and was hired as a long-haul semi-truck driver for Ford Motor Co. He retired from Ford after 42 years. He also operated an alarm installation company, Sudan Alarms, for 10 years He and his wife raised five children, instilling in them a love of education. He modeled the academic excellence he expected of his chidren when he earned a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Michigan-Dearborn in 1981. He was wholly devoted to his wife of more than 60 years and saw caring for her as his most treasured duty. Left to celebrate Bill Flowers' memory are his wife, Odessa Flowers: his son, Kevin Flowers (Angelia); his daughters, Allison Cohen, Marian Morris (Vince), Damisa Jackson (James) and Rhonda Quin; his sister. Georgia Snipes; three nieces: Mary "Tori" Flowers, Lorna Flowers and Adrienne Brown-Woods; a nephew, Ronald Flowers (Nicole): his cousin, Karen "Moochie" Stringer; thirteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Walter and George and his granddaughter, Aron. A viewing for Bil Flowers will be held on Friday, March 1, 2024 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Pentecostal Temple Church, 30043 Parkwood Street in Inkster. There will be a family hour at the church on Saturday, March 2, 2024 from 10 am. until 11 am, followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. To to the family or in memory of William Flowers, please

"Former NBA player Earl Cureton passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, February 4th, 2024, at the age of 66. The Detroit Pistons, his former team, confirmed his passing. Cureton collapsed at his home in Farmington Hills, Mich., as reported by The Detroit News. Cureton, also a college basketball star at Detroit Mercy, was famous for his dedication to the game and his community. Dick Vitale, former coach at Detroit Mercy, expressed his sorrow. Highlighting Cureton's passion for inspiring young people to pursue their dreams. Nicknamed ""The Twirl,"" Cureton enjoyed a successful NBA career spanning 12 seasons. He won championships with the Philadelphia 76ers in 1982-83 and the Houston Rockets in 1993-94. Throughout his career, he demonstrated resilience and sportsmanship. Thus leaving a lasting impact on the basketball world. After retiring from professional basketball, Cureton continued to serve as a community ambassador for the Pistons. Pistons owner Tom Gores praised Cureton's generosity, positivity, and dedication to his family and community. Cureton's legacy extends beyond the court. He remains a beloved figure in Detroit Mercy's athletic Hall of Fame. The community fondly remembers his contributions to basketball and his commitment to uplifting others. "

Laura Virginia (Becht) O’Neill died on January 26, 2024 at the age of 98. Laura was born in Detroit, Michigan, on April 17, 1925 to the late Phoebe and Fred Becht. Laura had six siblings and was the last born. She graduated from Detroit’s Northwestern High School in 1943. After graduating high school, Laura worked for The Children’s Aid Society until after World War II. On October 6, 1951, Laura married William (Bill) O’Neill. They resided in their Northwest Detroit home for over 50 years. Laura and Bill had three children– Craig, Judith, and Mark. Once the children grew older, Laura began working in the food service department at Mercy College. Laura and William were married for 68 years. Laura loved gardening, reading, taking the grandchildren to Greenfield Village/Henry Ford Museum, and traveling with her family. Laura and Bill loved to visit various places in the U.S., but frequently took road trips out East. She also enjoyed spending summers at the family cottage. Laura was an active member of New Hudson United Methodist Church. Laura is preceded in death by her husband, William, her siblings– Olive, Fred, Donald, Margaret, and Dorothy, and grandson, Christopher. Laura is survived by her children– Craig (the late Lynne), Judith (Jeff Weaver), and Mark (Elizabeth), grandchildren– Jonathan (Stacie), Kyle, Hilary, Brooke, Nolan, and Mara (Jason), great-grandchildren– Sofia, Olivia, Amelia, Conner, Raidyn, and Deni. Laura is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and extended family. Daniel Richard Snyder, 85, Detroit, Michigan.In loving memory of our Dad, Daniel Richard Snyder, who passed on Sunday, February 11, 2024. Loving father to his daughters and son, and grandfather to four grandchildren, he will be dearly missed by his family.Born in Detroit, Michigan, on April 18,1938 to Jean Sniderman (Ogoroskin) and Samuel Sniderman, and his loving older sister Shirley Sniderman (Gumpper), he spent most of his life living near family and friends in the Detroit area. His interest in history, art, geography and languages led him on many travel adventures and short residencies in Scandinavia, Spain, New York and the Bay Area. An avid academic with a Masters in Geography and Urban Planning from Wayne State University, he continued to enrich his education throughout his life. Proficient in eight languages and a teacher of geography, he earned a second Masters of Geology from Michigan State University and published a study on Olivine in his 70's. His long professional career included work in regional planning for Southeastern Michigan and information technology for Wayne State University. ln his lifelong passion for the pursuit and study of art, his work focused mainly on oil painting, woodworking, and charcoal drawing. He painted many landscapes, abstract works, and drawings that his family and friends will continue to enjoy in his memory.Dan is survived by and will be dearly missed by his children Ilya Snyder, Anouk Amelie Tapper, and Laure Schaffner, grandchildren Forest, Madeliene (Snowy), Isaac and Amelie (Lily), niece Valerie, great nephew Jake, and dear ex-wife Josie .
