Fred Walker

Fred Walker

Age - 78

November 27, 2023

Fred Walker, 78, of Sun Lakes, Arizona, went home to Jesus on November 6, 2023, surrounded by his daughters, Julie, Traci, and Amy. Fred was born in Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada on January 12, 1945. He was the only son born to Ab and Ivy Walker. The Walker family moved to Hamilton and when Fred was 16, they made the move for new opportunities in southern California. Fred graduated high school and began attending Mount San Antonio College when he met his wife JoAnn at the Catholic young adult group, the Alaco Club. They quickly fell in love and were married October 28, 1967. With a draft on its way, Fred enlisted himself in the United States Air Force and was stationed at Luke Air Force Base in Arizona. Fred served overseas as a flight mechanic working on B-57s in Vietnam. During their time in Arizona, Fred and JoAnn welcomed their first two daughters and then relocated for a life in Placentia, California, where they purchased their first home on Kermath Street and their youngest daughter was born. Fred was grateful to the company, Harrington Industrial Plastics, that provided a great life for his family. At work and in the community, Fred was a leader, a mentor, a coach, a friend, and a second dad to many. Fred transferred his hockey skills to the soccer field where he played and coached his wife, daughters, and grandkids. Along with Josie, he helped bring many young people to Christ through the interdenominational camp, Campus by the Sea. Fred and Josie faced health challenges together and were fortunate to be one another's caregivers over the years. Fred's legacy without question was his faith and strength. On December 15, 2006 Fred received a miracle gift of life when he had a lifesaving double lung transplant, upon a diagnosis of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. A prayer that Fred's family prayed and claimed during the year of 2006 was:"Oh God, you have helped me from my earliest childhood -and I have constantly testified to others of the wonderful things you do. And now that I am old and gray don't forsake me. Give me time to tell this new generation (and their children too) about all your mighty miracles!" Psalms 71: 17,18. Fred's miracle provided him an incredible second chance of life and almost 17 additional years on this earth. Fred and JoAnn allowed God to use their family for His glory, trusting in His plan, and leading by example -to let go, and let God. JoAnn passed away in 2017. Fred had a knack for fixing things, supporting his daughters and grandkids at their sporting events, watching soccer and hockey games, enjoying happy hour on his family vacations in San Clemente and with his friends at The Lake where he lived with his dog Buddy. Fred had a few nick-names: Freddy Babes, Tuna, Modern Day Lazarus, and The Mayor of Diamond Lake. Fred's daughters, son in laws, and 8 grandchildren will greatly miss their Pop, but will tell of God's mighty miracles. Fred will be remembered for living as a follower of Christ with an incredible zest for life. Fred was fun. He was funny. He was strong. He was brave. He was real. He was a legend. He was ours. And now, Fred is reunited with his Josie!Show more
