HERKIMER - Marie Wineberg, age 82, passed away peacefully on Wednesday August 30, 2023, at Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown. She was born on October 9, 1940, in Little Falls, a daughter of the late Ralph and Sylvia (McGowan) Cool. A lifelong area resident, she was raised and educated in Stratford,graduating from High School with the class of 1958. For over 25 years she was employed at Remington Arms. Marie had a strong belief in our Savior. For many years she attended the Assembly of God Church in Little Falls, and more recently the Christian Bible Church in Mohawk. Marie will be fondly remembered as a kind and gentle woman with a compassionate heart who enjoyed doing for others. She will be sadly missed. . Surviving are her daughter, Denise Wineberg of Amsterdam, a brother Marc Cool and his wife Betty of Dolgeville, sisters, Gail Signer and her husband Rene' of White Plains and Veronica Gruby of Scotia, nieces, nephews and cousins. Ilion - David Leslie Mergenthaler, age 78, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at his home with his loving family at his side. He was born on January 17, 1945, in San Antonio, TX a son of the late Frederick and Grace (Foster) Mergenthaler. David was raised in Richfield Springs and Mohawk, graduated from Mohawk Central School with the class of 1963. On September 5, 1964 he was united in marriage to the former Roberta (Robin) Mang. On September of 1962 he entered the US Navy and re-enlisted in March of 1976 and was honorably discharged on September 6, 1979. He was a talented tool and die maker having worked locally for E. J. Willis Machine Shop, Chicago Pneumatic Tool Company and was a Supervisor at Union Tool. After relocating to Virginia, he went on to share his leadership skills as Plant Facility Manager for Federal Mogul Company of Winchester, VA, retiring in 2002. David, was a talented gentleman and enjoyed woodworking, painting cars, playing the guitar, and singing, to name a few. He was a hardworking and intelligent man, loved by many. David was also known for his ability to share interesting life experiences with his family and friends. What a joy it was to hear his "stories". He was a "Gentle Giant" that lived his life with one main objective in mind; his family. His love and devotion to his wife, children, grandchildren, and his adoring great grandchildren was endless. He cherished each and every one of them and he was dearly loved ni return. He will be deeply and sadly missed by all. Surviving David is his devoted and loving wife of 59 years, Robin; his son David Mergenthaler Jr. and wife Colette of Buffalo; a daughter Shelly Cole and husband Michael of Ilion; six grandchildren, Kaylia Mergenthaler, Lesley (Kyle) Winsor, Derek Mergenthaler, Michael (Samantha) Cole, Megan (Brett) Nasypany, Marie (Josh) Brewer; and 12 great-grandchildren, Dallas and Blair Cole, Skylar Mergenthaler, Leigha and Cole Nasypany, Raylee, Emma, Bo and Mia Brewer; Lily, Harley and Oliver Winsor. A sister Lillian (Cliff) Oram of Ilion. His Sister- in-law, Judy and husband Larry Sickler; Sisters-in-law, Marietta Mergenthaler, JoAnne Mergenthaler and Kathy Schultz. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved son Daniel Le, May 25, 1988, also he never stopped grieving; his great granddaughter Dani Paige Winsor; his loving brother Michael, December 12, 2004; and dear brother Fred, February 25, 2010. A graveside funeral service with Military Honors will be held next spring at the Cedarville Cemetery at a time ot be announced. There are no calling hours. The family would like to share their gratitude to Wiliam Wolff, PA and Nurse Kathy and the staff at hte Rome VA facility; the Little Falls Hospital, and the Ilion Fire Department for their care and concerns shown to David during his extended illness. HERKIMER - On November 22, 2023, Lloyd played his final softball game, he passed away at Valley Health Services, Herkimer. Lloyd was born on January 21, 1939 in Richfield a son of the late Harold and Mae Belle Seamon Bond. Lloyd was raised and educated in Richfield Springs. Lloyd lived his life on the family farm, where he was happiest with his animals. He also had a passion for music, as he loved to play his many records. He was instrumental in sparking all of his brothers in playing softball, he played with his five brothers in softball leagues such as Utica MUNY League, Bond's Field League, and Ilion Softball League. He also played in many area softball tournaments. Lloyd loved to play at Bond Field the most. Surviving him are four brothers and their wives; Daniel Bond and his wife Patricia, Donald Bond and his wife Joy, Rick Bond and his wife Cris, Dennis Bond and his wife Laurie all of Richfield Springs he also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents he preceded in death by a brother Larry Bond. A funeral service for Mr. Bond will private and at the convenience of his family. HERKIMER - Patricia Ann Bowker age 82, passed away peacefully Sunday morning at Foltsbrook Center with her husband at her side. She was born on April 8, 1941, in Little Falls, the daughter of the late Anthony and Josephine (Fierro) Costanzo. Raised and educated in Dolgeville, she graduated from High School with the class of 1959. On May 23, 1964, she was united in marriage to Theodore Bowker in St Joseph RC Church, Dolgeville. Pat was a devout catholic and a communicant of St. Francis deSales Church, Herkimer. She first worked locally in the accounting department at Allegiant Airlines in Marcy, then at the Marine Midland Bank. She retired in 2005 after working in the legal department of the Herkimer County Court System. Pat was a friend to many and enjoyed helping others asking nothing in return. Upon her retirement she did volunteer work at Catholic Charities Food Pantry. She also enjoyed travels later in life, spending time with family was important to her as her family was her pride and joy. She will be sadly missed. Surviving are her devoted husband of 59 years, Ted, a son Michael Bowker and his wife Michelle of Saratoga, a daughter Susan Bowker of Boca Raton, FL, 2 granddaughters, Megan Bowker-Smith and her husband Dan, of Niskayuna, Sydney Green and her husband Morgan of RI, a great-granddaughter, Quinn Harper, sister-in-law Susan Costanzo of Marcy. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her brother Anthony Costanzo on July 21, 2015. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, November 9th, at 12 noon in St. Francis deSales Church, Herkimer with Reverend Thomas Babliuch, pastor officiating. RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Our Dear Mother, Helen Marie Duncan, sadly passed away on Wednesday November 1, 2023 at the age of 87 in the Cooperstown Center. Helen was born on November 15, 1935 a daughter to the late William and Dorothea Stocking. She was raised and educated in Springfield Center. On November 25, 1954 she was united in marriage to Ray F. Duncan. Together Ray and Helen raised five children. Helen was the backbone and pillar of strength to her entire family. Her unconditional love will be cherished forever. Her many friends will remember her soft smile and contagious laughter but most of all her generous heart. She will live on in the hearts of those she touched forever. Surviving her is her son Raymond "Butch" Duncan and his wife Bonnie of Monticello, four daughters Deborah Brooker and her husband Everett of Burlington Flats, Dale Furner and her husband James of Waterville, Tina Gage and her husband Dean of Richfield Springs, Patricia Augur and her husband Charles of Springfield Center. She had fifteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Ray F. Duncan on January 19, 2022, as well as her parents William and Dorothea Stocking, her brother David Stocking and sister Betty Searles. Helen worked for the Hadley Estate in Cooperstown (Anheuser Busch) as head of house, as well as other well known estates in the Cooperstown Area. She also worked in the West Winfield Livestock Auction Barn, West Winfield. Helen's life was full of family, gardening, cooking fishing, reading but most of all spending time with her children and grandchildren. Burlington Flats - Cheryl A. Kondrick, age 74 of County Highway 16, passed away on Tuesday October 31, 2023 in Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown. She was born in Queens, New York a daughter to the late William and Lucille Niebling, and step mother Anne. Raised and educated in Queens and a graduate of Grover Cleveland High School. On June 25, 1969 she married George Kondrick in Queens a blessed union of forty eight years until his passing in 2017. Cheryl and George raised their family in Queens. They had both moved to Burlington Flats in 2005. She was famously known as the "Fudge Lady" at the Fly Creek Cider Mill. Cheryl always enjoyed spending her summers in the Hamptons with her dad. She was very athletic, for over forty years, she coached Softball and Basketball for Sacred Heart Church CYO in Glendale, Queens, and she also coached Little League Baseball. She loved to go fishing, as her children referred to her as a great Fisherwoman. She loved to be with her grandchildren, especially her great-grandchildren. She was a friend to many and will never be forgotten. Surviving her are a son Craig Kondrick of Burlington Flats, three daughters; Catherine Konovitch and her husband Peter of Levittown, Christine Kondrick of Gelndale, Queens, and Cynthia Kondrick of Burlington Flats, two brothers William Niebling and, Robert Niebling and his wife Dawn all of Long Island, three sisters; Marion Henniger and her husband Hank of Virginia, Susan Guchiardi and her husband Al, Tessa Maccalino and her husband Dave all of Long Island, three grandchildren Christopher, Kevin and Timothy, three great-grandchildren, Jack Charlie and Violet, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. HERKIMER - Marion R. Steele, passed away on October 22, 2023, at the Foltsbrook Center, Herkimer at the age of 91. She was a resident of East Herkimer but had been in the Folksbrook Center since 2013. Born in Corning, NY on May 7, 1932, she was the daughter of the late August and Marion (Cruxton) Reinheimer. She graduated from Corning Northside HS in 1950 and from the New York State College for Teachers at Albany (now the University at Albany) in 1954. In college she met her future husband, Edgar. They were married in 1954,at the Christ Episcopal Church in Corning, beginning a marriage lasting 69 years. She taught in Troy City School from 1954 - 55, while Edgar finished college. They moved to Dryden in August 1955 living there until 1969, when they moved to Herkimer. In 1969 she earned her first master's degree at SUNY Cortland in French Literature. In the early 1970's she taught French at Herkimer County Community College, while it was till located in the Ilion factory buildings. She then finished raising her four sons and earned her second master's degree in English. For many years she was active in Literacy Volunteers for America, both as a tutor and trainer of other tutors. She served on the Utica-Mohawk Valley Board of Directors of LVA and attended many national conventions. Through the LVA she especially tutored foreign students, who were learning English as a second language. In the mid 1980's she returned to HCCC, developing their Learning Center (now the Academic Support Center) serving as its first Director. After leaving HCCC in 1989, she returned to teaching ESL and English at the Russian Monasteryin Jordanville, NY for many years. Surviving are her husband Edgar and four sons, Douglas (Lisa) of North Greenbush, David (Lorraine) of Gansevoort, Jon (Tina) of North Greenbush and Jeffrey of Herkimer. She also leaves five granddaughters, Rachel, Carolyn, Sarah, Jennifer,and Grace, two step-grandchildren, Derel (Ashleigh) and Melissa (Matt) and three step-great-grandchildren, Harper, Aiden and Lucas, a brother Richard (Ella Ann) Reinheimer of Tecumseh, KS, several nieces, and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by a brother Theodore. A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 1:30 p. m. in Fenner Funeral Home Inc, 115 Court Street, Herkimer. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 12:30 until the time of the service. MOHAWK - Marsha Anne Griffith, age 58 passed away peacefully on September 27, 2023, at her home with the love and support of her devoted family at her side. Born on July 31, 1965, in Dunkirk, she was the daughter of the late Howard James Lanphier, Sr. and the late Ellen Elaine (Eastwood Lanphier - Arnold. She graduated from Mohawk Central School District in 1983. For over 37 years she was employed byMohawk Central School, from 1985 as Superintendent Secretary/District Clerk, Herkimer BOCES District Superintendent Secretary/Board Clerk in 1996-1997, and returned to Mohawk CSD in 1997 until it merged as Central Valley in 2013, then as Superintendent's Secretary/District Clerk, until August of 2022. She often stated how very thankful she was for the many years spent with her "school family". For many years, Marsha was an active member of the Mohawk United Methodist Church, serving as the pianist and co-director of the Junior Choir. She was also a member of the Senior Choir, worked with the Sunday School Program, as well as the Nursery and Vacation Bible School programs. She was a member of Herkimer County Association of Educational Secretaries and Office Personnel HCAESOP for many years and enjoyed their special get-togethers. Marsha was active with the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life program and served on the Planning Board for the first Relay event in Mohawk in 2000. In her leisure she enjoyed playing the piano especially with her girls and family. She also taught piano lessons. Marsha's world always revolved around family, as they were what mattered most in her life. She was an encouragement to each and every one in her family, her devotion will be cherished forever. Her friends will remember her contagious smile, her quick wit and generous heart. She was a valued friend and will live on in the hearts of those lives she touched forever. Surviving are her longtime devoted friend and companion, Steve Schiavi, three beautiful daughters, Sarah Beth Pavia of Rochester, Stephanie Lynn Fransman and her husband David of Mohawk, Stacey Marie Gurtowski and her husband Ben of Herkimer, two adorable grandsons fondly referred to as the "love of her life", River Scott and Trenton James Fransman of Mohawk, a brother Howard Lanphier also of Mohawk, a niece,Andrea Lanphier of Herkimer, step-father, Winfred Arnold of Mohawk, Aunt Bouck and cousins, Ellen and Robert (Simone) Bouck of Ilion, Aunt Joyce Bateman and cousins, Ann and Martin Batemen of Dunkirk, special extended family: Elizabeth Schiavi, Alyssa Schiava and Matthew (Liz) Schiavi. She was predeceased by her parents Howard James Lanphier, Sr. and Ellen Lanphier Arnold and grandparents, Howard N. (Bertha) Lanphier and Ellis (Pearl) Eastwood. Calling hours and funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 4th at the Mohawk Reformed Church, 18 S. Otsego Street, Mohawk, from 2:00 -5:00pm with the service following immediately at 5:00 pm in the church. Reverend Brian Engle, pastor will officiate.
