Marie Corbo Mauro passed away on September 8, 2023, at her home in Quogue, NY. She was born March 17, 1923, in New Rochelle to Dominick and Anna (Maniscalco) Corbo. Marie married Nicholas A. Mauro on December 4, 1943, at St. Joseph's Church in New Rochelle. She celebrated her 100th birthday in March of 2023, surrounded by her family. While Nicholas served in the US Army during WWII, she worked for Best & Co. in New York City. Upon his return, they raised a family of five children. Marie worked for Macy's in New Rochelle for twenty years and, in her retirement, enjoyed planting a vegetable garden, spending time with her grandchildren, playing MahJong with her dear friends, practicing Tai Chi, and summers spent at the beach. Marie volunteered at the local hospital and did charity work with the Catholic Women's Club of New Rochelle Marie was the loving mother of Diana (Thomas) Snodgrass, Thomas (Antonia) Mauro, Deborah Mauro, Donna (Christopher) Podlaski, and Doreen (Jerry) Napolitano. She is survived by eight grandchildren: Brian (Jenn) Snodgrass, Brendan (Traci LaVallee) Snodgrass, Nicholas Mauro, Cristina (Scott) Hoffman, Jane Podlaski, James Podlaski, Andrew Napolitano, Dana Napolitano, and two great-grandchildren, Claire Snodgrass and William Snodgrass. Marie was predeceased by Nicholas, her devoted husband of 68 years. She is also predeceased by three sisters and two brothers, and she is survived by her sister Catherine Hetzler. Richard G Fontana, born in Yonkers on Dec 10th, 1944 went to his eternal home on November 29th, 2023 after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lucille, their sons Paul (Emily) and Thomas (Becky), and eight grandchildren who called him Popman: Maximilian, Tess, Mia, Mark, Cecelia, Matthew, Massimo, and Megan; and sisters-in law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Elizabeth (DelBello) Fontana, his sister Virginia Cimini, and his brother George Fontana, FMS, of the Marist Brothers. Richard was admitted to the bar in 1969 and practiced law for most of his professional career in Yonkers and White Plains. He served as President of the Board at St. John's Riverside Hospital and President of the Parish Council at Immaculate Heart of Mary, where he was a parishioner for 39 years. He provided pro bono legal services to El Centro Hispano, Inc. and was involved in various community and professional associations. Funeral arrangements will be provided through Bennett Funeral Homes, Scarsdale, NY. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to the Marist Brothers, in memory of his brother, George.
