Marie C. (Berger) Groffie, 95, of Hamilton Square, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, October 5, 2023. Born in Trenton, NJ, Marie was a graduate of Cathedral High School, Class of 194!5. She went on to work for several years as an administrative assistant for the State of New Jersey before starting her family and dedicating herself as a stay-at-home mom. She was a parishioner of St. Gregory the Great RC Church and was a very passionate supporter of the Missions. Marie was known as the Prayer Warrior for her family, praying the rosary for everyone she loved. She devoted herself to her family. She kept herself busy, happily singing her way through her duties and tending to any neighbors who may need help. Her radiant smile was infectious and always brightened the room. Marie had a deep love for animals, and family pets knew that she would always sneak them a treat. Marie was an incredibly talented seamstress and also designed floral arrangements. She was a member of a local Bowling League for many years. Marie loved to travel and enjoyed trips with her family. She and her beloved husband, Donald presided over the Steinert High School Color Guard for many years. While Donald directed the program, Marie assisted him and was the seamstress for the group. She and her husband were part time residents of Sarasota, Florida for over 30 years. Predeceased by her parents, Walter and Marie (Morrissey) Berger; her husband of 66 years, Donald F. Groffie; her siblings, Rita Wilson, Vincent Berger, Walter Berger, Edward Berger and Amelia Dunphy; she is survived by her children, Linda Groffie-Balint and husband, Bob, of Palo Alto, CA, Richard Groffie of The Colony, TX, Ceil Chludzinski and husband, Jeff, of Hamilton Square and Amy Hrdy and husband, Russ, of Dover, NJ; her grandchildren and their spouses, Stephen and Crystal Groffie, Christine Groffie, Michelle and Doug Norton, Laura and Sammi Roush, Victoria and Jesus Dominguez, Sean, Emma, Angelica and MaryRose Chludzinski, Kathleen and Jonathan Firth, Kaitlyn and Noah Sweet and Faith Hrdy and fiance, Daniel Sullivan; her great-grandchildren, Carter, Cruz and Stella Dominguez, Riley Sweet and Brinley Firth; her brother, Lawrence Berger; and her many loving nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Accentcare Hospice for the high level of care and empathy, especially from Maritza Hernandez, Deanna Damra, and Veronica Busch. Visitation for friends and family will be held on Thursday, October 12, 2023, from 6:00 p. m. until 8:00 p. m. at the Saul Colonial Home, 3795 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 13, 2023 at 10:00 a. m. at St. Gregory the Great RC Church, 4620 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square, NJ. Interment will follow at Princeton Memorial Park in Robbinsville, NJ.
