Mrs. Barbara Powell, 95, of Huntingdon, Tennessee passed away Saturday November 18, 2023 at Brookdale Greeneville. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00PM Sunday November 26, 2023 in the chapel of Dilday-Carter Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Dr. Tim Atkins officiating. The family will receive friends at Dilday-Carter Funeral Home on Sunday from 11:00AM until time of service at 2:00PM. Barbara was born in Huntingdon August 24, 1928, to the late Guy Thomas and Angie Nesbitt Looney and lived here until moving to Brookdale Greeneville at age 93. She married Robert Green (Bob) Powell in 1953 and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. With grateful hearts, we remember the many ways in which her long life has been a blessing to us. Her generous and caring spirit will continue to reverberate through the generations. Barbara was a lifelong member of The First United Methodist Church and was retired from the Bank of Huntingdon. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; a son, Bob Powell; a special niece Suzanne Looney Shackelford; a daughter-in-law, Rhonda Powell, and her parents. She is survived by one daughter Angie (Lee) Tipton; son Tommy (Janet) Powell; five grandchildren Matt Tipton, Clay Tipton, Nathan Powell, Amanda Powell Pruitt and Katie Tipton Parham; five great-grandchildren Wyatt Pruitt, Karlee Pruitt, Levi Tipton, Abby Parham, and Hayes Parham; special nephews Marvin Shackelford, Jr and Jonathan Looney. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Long Rock Methodist Church or First United Methodist Church. The family expresses a special thank you to the residents of Brookdale Greeneville for their friendship and the staff for their compassionate care of Barbara.
