Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Genetti of Barrington, RI, passed away Nov 26, 2023 at the age of 101. A native of Lewiston, Maine, and graduate of Bates College, she was, for 60 years, the devoted wife of the late Albert Genetti. They moved to Barrington from Bristol, NH in 1962. She is survived by her children and children-in-law, Catherine and Robert Schneider of Newton, MA; Michael and Barbara Genetti of Barrington; Richard Genetti of Burlington, CT; and Carolyn and Michael Menchel of Alexandria, VA; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Betty was an active member of the Barrington community and St John's Episcopal Church, where she served on the Vestry and the Flower Guild and, even in her 90's, helped to prepare The Tower newsletter. For many years she was President of the St John's chapter of the Episcopal Church Women. She was an avid sports fan and competitor and loved playing card games, conversing with friends, and spending time in her gardens. But most of all, she delighted in keeping up with the activities of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Best known as Grammie or GG to her family and beyond, Betty was a frequent spectator of her grandkids and great-grandkids' athletics events, from Barrington's Victory Field down to the University of Virginia. She never missed an opportunity to send a college care package with homemade chocolate chip cookies and newspaper clippings and was incredibly proud of their career and life accomplishments. She took great joy in hosting family gatherings at her Alfred Drown Rd home, most notably 4th of July lobsters, tennis and capture the flag at the annual Genetti Camp Rama Ramp. She will be remembered for her joyful spirit, her multitude of trademark sayings, love of Four Town Farm's corn, and always being up for one more game of Rummy 500. Betty's family is grateful to "her ladies", Dorothy Sinnott, Donna Mazzeo, Jane LeBeau, and Maureen Bucell, for their care and support that helped enable her to live independently until just a week before her death. A funeral service and celebration of life will be held in the spring. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Episcopal Church Women, St John's Church, 191 County Rd, Barrington, RI; or the Albert Genetti Fund of the Community Scholarship Fund of Barrington, PO Box 300, Barrington, RI.
