It is with great sadness that the family of Maria "Tome" Roman announce her passing at the age of 86 on Saturday, 05/06/2023. Maria passed away peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her loved ones. Maria was born on December 29, 1936, in San Antonio, Texas, however she lived in Uvalde, Texas for most of her life. As a result of her generous spirit and pleasant personality, she was well loved within the community. She was known for her love of singing and dancing, and for her famous pancakes and tortillas. Her family was her pride and joy and she especially delighted in spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Maria is survived by her children, Janie (Mario) Moreno, Anita Fuentes, Erica Fuentes, Johnny Fuentez, and Jo Ann Muse. She is also survived by her 11 grandchildren Johnny (Jillian) Fuentes, Jordan (Lori) Fuentes, John Anthony Fuentes, Veronica (Jeremiah) O'Grady, Jennifer (Doug) Spencer, Jeanette (Jonathan) Tapia, Robert (Nickole) Serna, Austin Serna, Erica (Billy) Brooks, Carol (Fernando) Martinez, Cyndi (Julio) Lopez, 21 great grandchildren, and countless other relatives and friends. Maria was preceded in death by her loving husband Serafin "Tino" Roman, former spouse Lucio Fuentez, and her son Tony Fuentez. Visitation for the public will be on Thursday, May 11, 2023 between 1:00 - 6:30 pm, with the Rosary prayer beginning at 7:00 pm at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary (220 South Getty, Uvalde, Texas 78801). The family will receive guests during the visitation and following the Rosary prayer. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on Friday, May 12, 2023 at 10:00am at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church (408 Fort Clark Rd. Uvalde, TX 78801). Burial will take place immediately following the Mass service, at Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery (527 N. Lovers Ln. , Uvalde, TX 78801). Reception will be held at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary following the burial. A beautiful, loving, and caring woman until the very end, may she rest in peace. To to the family, please
