Harold York

Harold York

Age - 86

November 30, 2023

Following a short illness, Harold Lee York passed away in Corpus Christi on November 25, 2023, with his long-time friend, Roger Wade Hobbs, at his hospital bedside. Harold was born in Jasper, Missouri, on January 11, 1937, son of Alma Faye Bird and Robert Hugh York. Following high school in 1958, he began working for Delta Air Lines. He temporarily left Delta to join the United States Army from 1960-1962, where he qualified as a marksman and worked as a cryptologist while stationed at Fort Shafter, Hawaii, earning an honorable discharge for his service to his country. After leaving active duty, Harold returned to Delta Air Lines, making many life-long friends across the country while working in Chicago, Atlanta, Houston, and Corpus Christi. He also made sure to take advantage of airline perks to travel the world. After retiring from Delta in 1992, Harold remained in Corpus Christi, delighted to have found a haven from colder weather as he did his very best to limit his wardrobe to short pants and short-sleeved shirts. When spotted outside his condominium wearing a light jacket, it was clear that the cold weather had truly come to Corpus Christi. Harold enjoyed life, remained stubbornly independent, and was a loyal defender of his friends. He became one of the community's most notable bridge players, remaining upbeat in the face of a series of medical problems in his later years. The last of his immediate family, he had no children. As per his wishes, Harold's body will be cremated at Seaside Funeral Home in Corpus Christi. Friends will gather for a short celebration of his life in the near future.Show more
