Pilar Apodaca, age 79, of El Paso, Texas, passed away on Friday, February 23, 2024, peacefully at home. She was born on October 6, 1944 in Mexico City to Gonzalo and Felipa Zarazua. She came to El Paso, Texas at the age of 14 years old. She married and had 3 children and helped raise her grandchildren. Some of her favorite activities included: cooking, ceramic painting, sewing and gambling. She enjoyed volunteering at the senior citizen center, where she participated in all of their holiday events. Visiting her local swap meet on Sunday mornings was something she enjoyed. Many knew Pilar as a very strong, independent, active and hard-working woman and was known for her famous tamales. She will be dearly missed by the ones who loved her most. She is preceded in death by Dolores Apodaca and Manuel Ruz. Pilar is survived by her children: Raul, Virginia and Noel Manuel. Grandchildren: Victoria, Monique, Alexandra, Raul Jr., Lee Andra, Noel, Ryley and Abygale. Brothers and Sisters: Raul, Antonio, Josefina, Graciela and Rosa. A Visitation for Pilar will be held Monday, March 4, 2024 from 5:00pm to 9:00pm at Martin Funeral Home West, 128 N Resler Dr, El Paso, Texas 79912, with a Rosary beginning at 7:00pm. Jose Olallo Castillo, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, godfather, friend, and esteemed general surgeon, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2024, at the age of 85 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family at his home in El Paso, TX. The sixth of nine siblings, he was born on July 26, 1938, in Sabinas, Coahuila, Mexico. Olallo was the epitome of dedication and compassion throughout his remarkable life. He served his country as a captain in the United States Air Force for two honorable years before embarking on his illustrious medical career. Graduating from La Universidad de Nuevo León in 1964 with a degree in Medicine, he pursued his passion for surgery, completing his general surgery residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Michigan in 1968. Olallo truly found his calling in medicine. He loved every minute of being a doctor, finding deep fulfillment in helping others. Renowned as an excellent clinician, his expertise extended beyond general surgery; he seemed to know about everything medical. People would frequently seek his advice or opinion, recognizing his wisdom and insight. Furthermore, Olallo took great pleasure in sharing his vast knowledge with students and residents, inspiring the next generation of medical professionals with his passion and dedication. For decades, Olallo served the El Paso community as a revered general surgeon, touching countless lives with his skill, empathy, and warmth. His patients revered him, his peers esteemed him, and the medical staff adored him. Known for his infectious laughter and charming smile, Olallo always had a story to tell. His tales, though often highly embellished, never failed to bring joy and laughter to those around him. Even during his illness, he continued to share his humor, brightening the spirits of everyone in his presence. Olallo's ability to find laughter in the midst of hardship was a testament to his resilience and unwavering positivity, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him. Olallo met the love of his life, Silvia, in high school, and their love story began. They married after graduating from medical school and shared 62 beautiful years together, raising a loving family and creating cherished memories. After retiring from medicine, Olallo embraced a life of travel and spent precious moments with his children and grandchildren. He journeyed across the globe with Silvia, his beloved "prieta", sometimes accompanied by their children and grandchildren and other times with their dear friends. Through it all, his zest for life never waned, and he cherished every moment of adventure and exploration. Olallo leaves behind his devoted wife Silvia, his children Silvia Ortega (Tony), Jose Castillo Jr. (Rita), Jenny Chmielecki (Mike), and Eduardo Castillo (Tina), as well as his adoring grandchildren: Christopher, Jacob, Isabella, Alex, Sabrina, Julianna, Olivia, Nico, Cristian, and Jocelyn. The Castillo family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the medical professionals who provided exceptional care during Olallo's illness, especially Dr. Alfonso Chavez, Dr. Arsenio Lopez, Dr. Anuradha Gupta, and Dr. Abraham Gonzalez, along with the compassionate nurses at Sierra Medical Center, Baylor Scott & White in Ft. Worth, TX, the staff of Urgent Care Hospice and his caregivers Daniel and Nena. Visitation will be held at Martin Funeral Home West on March 1, 2024, from 5:00-9:00 p.m., with a Rosary at 6 p.m. A Funeral Mass to celebrate Olallo’s life will take place at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, 400 W. Sunset Rd, on March 2, 2024, at noon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to Siguiendo Los Pasos de Jesús, SPJ Inc. (www.spjinc.org), a cause dear to Olallo's heart, or your favorite charity. Jose Olallo Castillo will be deeply missed but forever remembered for his unwavering love, generosity, and the profound impact he made on the lives of those around him. He was a kind man with a good heart and a great smile. He loved to joke and send funny memes and gifs. Fernando was a 1990 Burges High School Graduate and obtained his bachelor’s and master’s Degrees from the University of Texas at El Paso. He was also a former English teacher at Santa Teresa High School and most recently an English teacher at Fabens High School. His pride and joy was his daughter Remi Gutierrez, he loved her dearly and enjoyed bragging about her and spending time with her. Fernando also had a special love for his nieces Lauren and Bella Loy, Rubi Reed and his nephew Jacob Reed, whom he also enjoyed spending time with. Fernando was a die-hard San Francisco 49ers and San Francisco Giants fan. Fernie as he was known by family and friends is proceeded in death by his mom Elva Gutierrez and his dad Fernando Gutierrez. Left to cherish his memories are his daughter Remi Gutierrez, his nieces Lauren and Bella Loy, Rubi Reed, his nephew Jacob Reed, his sister Claudia Loy and her husband Abel Loy. His cousins Sandy Muñoz and Kristi Soforo, as well as numerous family and friends. A funeral mass for Fernando will be held Thursday, February 29, 2024 at 11:30 AM at St Joseph Catholic Church, 3729 Hueco Ave, El Paso, Texas 79903.

Dr Antonio Davalos passed away on February 24, 2024. He was born in Juarez chihuahua on February 29, 1944. He attended medical school at the University of Medicine in Chihuahua, Mexico and did his internship at ThomasonHospital in El Paso, before going on to complete his residency in general surgery at the University Hospital of the Puerto Rico Medical Center in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Dr. Davalos began working in Del Sol Medical Center in El Paso TX in 1980. He was a brilliant general surgeon and was also a pillar ofthe Del Sol Medical Staff having held Chief of Staff; Chief of Surgery; Vice Chief of Surgery; and theChair for the hospital's Credentials Committee. Dr. Davalos always took anactive role in helping determine the direction the hospital. He was named Dr of the year in 2009.Dr Davalos was a kind and compassionate man and physician. But he was mostly known for telling people what they needed to hear not what they wanted to hear. His brutal honesty and candor was one of his most endearing qualities to friends and family.His generous spirit, keen insight and quick wit will forever be missed but we are grateful for the lessons learned, the laughs shared, and the memories created together.Dr Davalos is survived by his loving wife of 51 years Rosalba. His children, Dr Mauricio Davalos, Carla (Dan) Nelson and Tony (Joanna) Davalos. He was loved by his grandchildren, Isabela, Diego and Nicolas Davalos, Sophia, Daniel and Mateo Nelson, Pablo and Vivienne Davalos and David Narvaez.The family would like to give special thanks to Dr Alfonso Chavez for his many years of friendship and for his compassionate care and service.Dr Davalos lived a great life and will be missed dearly on this side of heaven.The Funeral Mass to honor Dr. Antonio Davalos will be held on Thursday, February 29th at 11 AM at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, located at 1551 Belvidere St.The services have been entrusted to Perches-West Funeral Home.For more information, please contact them at 915-581-0102
