Maria Contreras, 73, of Tahoka passed away on Monday, June 20, 2022 in Tahoka surrounded by her family. Maria was born on March 26, 1949 in Bryan, Texas to Urbano Estrada, Jr. and Maria Francisca Martinez. She was raised in Bryan and on the farm in New Home. She married Trinidad Contreras and they lived Tahoka, where she was a homemaker and raised her two sons. She was simple person, but lively and sassy. She loved listening to music and dancing and collecting elephants. She loved spending time with family, and she never met a stranger. She also helped as a caretaker for the elderly. She was a member of Saint Jude Catholic Church in Tahoka. Maria is survived by her 3 sisters, Janie and Daniel Montelongo of Tahoka, Virginia Zuniga of Lubbock, and Pam Estrada of New Home, 1 brother, Robert and Cheryl Estrada of Slaton, special friend, Manuel Del Valle of Tahoka, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband, Trinidad Contreras, 2 sons, Stephen and Samuel Contreras, sister, Victoria Morin, and her parents. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Cremation arrangements are under the personal care of Combest Family Funeral Homes and Crematory in Tahoka.
