| | | | Margie Elizabeth McDaniel, 90, of Summit, MS, passed from this life on Thursday, May 4, 2023 at her residence with her loving family by her side. She was born on March 11, 1933 in Vicksburg, MS, to the late Joseph H. Benton and Viola Breland Tatum. Margie spent her childhood making great memories with her brothers and sisters. She was a graduate of McComb High School in 1951 and attended Southwest Mississippi Junior College. After college, she worked at J C Penney McComb as a clerk and model. During her time at J C Penney, she was introduced to Carl McDaniel by her co-worker, Lela Carruth, who was Carl's aunt. While dating Carl, she moved to Jackson, MS to work for the Hinds County Health Department and later for the Mississippi Power and Light Co. Margie and Carl fell in love and married February 12, 1956. Carl's time in the Air Force allowed them to travel the world. They had four handsome boys along the way and eventually settled in Magnolia, MS, where they were avid members of East Union Baptist Church. Not long after the passing of her husband, Margie moved to McComb where she became an active member of First Baptist Church of McComb. Margie enjoyed cooking, reading her Bible, playing cards with her friends, walking, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She will always be remembered for her beautiful smile and kindness that radiated with her presence. She is preceded in death by her husband, Percy Carl McDaniel; her parents, Joseph Homer Benton and Viola Breland Tatum; one son, Carl Duane McDaniel; three brothers, Joseph Homer Benton Jr. , John "Jack" Benton, and Robert Howard Benton Sr. Survivors include three sons, Brian (MaryLynn) McDaniel of Magnolia, MS; David McDaniel of New Orleans, LA; Bruce (Lisa) McDaniel of Summit, MS; daughter-in-law, Kathleen McDaniel of Macon, GA; one sister, Norma (Gary) Bowlin of Summit, MS; grandchildren, Justin McDaniel; Ashley Robertson; Jenna (Richie) Karl; Mallory McDaniel; Matthew (Mary) McDaniel; Erica McDaniel; Garrett McDaniel; Bailee McDaniel; Jacob McDaniel; Keanu McDaniel; Hannah McDaniel; Forrest McDaniel; Abby McDaniel; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends. Pallbearers are James Hucabee, Snuffy Smith, Billy Morgan, Pymm West, Joey Allen, and Arnie Smith. A visitation will be held Saturday, May 13, 2023, at First Baptist Church McComb, starting at 10:00 a. m. until time of service at 11:00 a. m. A graveside service will follow at Hollywood Cemetery with Rev. Woody Rimes officiating.
