William Michael Coffee

"We are saddened to announce the passing of William Michael (Mike) Coffee on February 19, 2024. Mike was born on March 31, 1947 in Atlanta, Georgia. He grew up in the Atlanta area and graduated from Campbell of Smyrna High School. Mike was awarded a baseball scholarship to Georgia Tech. However, his senior year in high school he injured his elbow which ruined his arm for college. Having lost his scholarship, college was not a reality for him. He worked in the electrical field until he was drafted in 1966 into the Army. Mike started basic training at Fort Benning in Columbus, Georgia and then onto Fort Gordon. He then went to Maryland for MIT - Military Intelligence Training after which he returned to be stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. In 1968, Mike was sent to Vietnam as part of the 101st airborne (the aeronautics division of the army). Mike interpreted satellite photos and flew an A-1E airplane most often referred to as a “bird dog”. Mike was a true patriot and received several commendations for his service. Mike was a man of faith and integrity with a strong belief in God, Country and family. He was a member of First Baptist Church Villa Rica, GA. In earlier years, as a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Palmetto, he served on the Pulpit Committee which called Rev. Michael Dalton, Sr. to be their new pastor. Mike served in many areas of the Church including the Youth Department and various other ministries. He was an intricate part of the Building Committee for Friendship’s new M. D. Collins Fellowship Hall. Friendship always held a special place in his heart. Mike was successful and had a strong work ethic. He retired as Vice President of Marketing from American Insurance Marketing Corporation in 2007. He and his wife, Donna, then founded MDC Enterprises, Inc. where he continued working until 2021. He was an avid golfer, loved to travel, and enjoyed being on the back of a horse as deep down he was a true cowboy. Mike loved his family and being a “pawpaw” was his greatest honor. He didn’t believe you had to be related by blood to be considered family. He had an infectious smile and his heart was huge; especially for those in need. He worked hard and loved hard! Mike leaves behind a legacy of duty, honor and love. Mike is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Donna Goddard Coffee; Children, Priscilla Coffee Robinson (Steve) of Roopville, GA, Clint Bowen (Caley) of Carrollton, GA; Grandchildren, Jessica Roberts, Justin Roberts, Carson \u0026amp; Coleton Bowen; Great Grandchildren, Cayden \u0026amp; Landen Pittman and Grandchildren in Heart – Jillian Sensing Butts (Cody) and Connor Sensing (Nicole); Sisters, Mary Coffee Bready (Gene) of Talking Rock, GA, Shirley Coffee Crouch (Travis) of Cherry Log, Ga and a circle of nieces, nephews and friends. Mike is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph \u0026amp; Geraldine Coffee and Brother, Jack Coffee. She was born in Lafayette, Louisiana on September 19, 1969, to both the late Elmina St. Julien Utomi and Raymond Reaux.As a young person, Roxanne took an extreme interest in books and began to enlighten herself, while at the same time motivating others to do the same. After graduating from Lafayette High School, Class of 1988, and first studying at Southern University of Baton Rouge, she went on to become a proud member of the UL Alumni Association upon receiving a Bachelor’s degree in General Studies (Concentrating in Business) from the University of Southwestern Louisiana, now known as the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, in December of 1992. She also earned an Associate’s degree in Health Care Management, then a Paralegal diploma from Blackstone Career Institute in December of 2009, a Master’s degree in Business Administration from North Central University in May of 2010, and continued to acquire even more academic certifications throughout the years.In addition to working as a Transportation Analyst at the Atlanta-based corporate office for RaceTrac for the last 14 years, Roxanne became an adjunct professor at American Public University where she taught a business course for 12 years and received an honorable mention for her dedicated service. She also made numerous contributions to various religious organizations. Roxanne loved vacationing, traveling, visiting, and supporting her family and friends in their time of need, exploring historical sites and landmarks, going to professional sports games, and fine dining. Mr. Morris Francis "Toby" Toler, Jr., age 75, of Dallas, Georgia passed away on Friday, February 2, 2024 at Tanner Medical Center in Villa Rica, Georgia.Mr. Toler was born on August 20, 1948 in Atlanta, Georgia to Mr. Morris Francis Toler, Sr. and Mrs. Ethel Echols Toler. Morris was married for many years to Mrs. Dinah Bickers Toler. He worked as a Deputy Director of Public Safety for Cobb County Government. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend to many.Toby began his career as a Cobb County firefighter, then transferred to the police department as a patrolman, serving tenaciously for almost 30 years, and he retired with the rank of Deputy Director of Public Safety. Contemporaneously, he completed his education at Georgia State University in political science, and he was the first person in his family to graduate from college. His professional accomplishments were prodigious, including commanding and developing a SWAT Team that was a paradigm for other law enforcement agencies throughout the state of Georgia. As a Constitutional Law erudite, he taught this beloved subject for years to many young officers at the police academy. Additionally after retiring, he continued teaching in a different vein in the realm of machine shop and welding at Coosa Valley Technical College.Aside from his professional endeavors, he had avid affinities for history, music, cars, Harley Davidson motorcycles, the Atlanta Falcons and the Georgia Bulldogs. He was a self taught guitar player, and you might find him “pickin’” with other musicians around the state at bluegrass festivals. His most endearing traits included his quick wit and propensity for story telling. His winsome charm and boisterous laughter, as well as his ever present “dad jokes” will be sorely missed.Mr. Toler is preceded in death by his father, Mr. Morris Francis Toler, Sr.; brother, Robert Stephen Toler.Toby is survived by his wife, Dinah Toler; children, Tobilyn Toler Hornick (Jonathan), Morris Francis "Trey" Toler, III (Michael), Michael Jason Matthews (Priscilla), Joshua Walton Matthews (Amber); grandchildren, Jonathan Patrick "J.P." Elizabeth Lowery Dalton of Villa Rica, Georgia, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at the age of 83. Elizabeth was born on February 12, 1940, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She graduated from Rossville High School in 1958. She began her career with Southern Bell and retired from BellSouth as a Network Technician. After retirement, she continued working for BellSouth as a consultant and this allowed her to travel the US extensively. Elizabeth loved her family fiercely and was a Mama Bear through and through. She also loved shopping, gardening, and travel.Elizabeth is predeceased by her father, Cicero Lowery; her mother, Rubye Lowery; her infant brother, David Lowery; her brother, Fred Lowery; her sister, Sue Brock; and her husband, Guy Dalton.Elizabeth is survived by her daughter, Amy Woods (Doug); son, Darren Welch (Kim); grandchildren, Landon Woods (Katie), Patrick Woods, Jacob Welch (Emily), Taylor Welch, and Morgan Welch; great grandchildren, Logan Woods and Luca Woods; and her sisters, Pam Stacks (Gary) and Cheryl Lowery. She is also lovingly remembered by her special friend, Joe Faires.Visitation will be held on February 14th from 10:00 to 12:00 at Cheatham Hill Memorial Park with burial immediately following.

Jeanette Smith Meeks gained her wings peacefully on Sunday, January 28, 2024,at her home with her children by her side.She was the only daughter of Earl and Verdene Kirby Smith and was born June 30, 1936 in old town Villa Rica. She graduated from Villa Rica High School in 1954 and spent her life in this area.She was employed by the Carroll County Board of Education as a parapro at Villa Rica Primary for 25 years. She was a lifetime member of Flat Rock Baptist church, and attended as long as her health permitted. She was predeceased by her parents; caring for her mother who had alzheimer's until her death., She was also predeceased by her husband, Harold "Cotton" Meeks, to whom she was married 62 years and one week when he passed in April 2016. She was a fun loving mother and grandmother and will be missed by her family. She is survived by her children, Mike Meeks, and Connie Meeks Duffey (Tom Duffey), her grandchildren Adam Meeks (Evan Johnson) and Emery Duffey (Dylan Beaumont).The family will received friends at Flat Rock Baptist Church, 961 Flat Rock Road, Villa Rica from 12 noon until 3pm with funeral service to begin at 3pm with burial to follow at Glenn Memorial Gardens. Flowers will be accepted, preferring live plants to plant outdoors.JHoyt Thomas Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
