Margery Christine Clifton, 95, of Adrian, MO, passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at Medicalodge of Butler in Butler, MO. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at 11:00 AM at the Adrian Christian Church, with the visitation beginning at 10:00 AM. Memorial contributions may be made to Bates County Industries or Crescent Hill Cemetery. A full obituary will be posted when it becomes available.

Oma J. Sparkman, 77, of Waterloo, passed away Monday, October 23, 2023, at the Laurels of DeKalb Nursing Home in Butler, Indiana. She was born February 24, 1946, in Gunlock, Kentucky to Lonzo and Ethel (Shepherd) Vanderpool. Oma graduated from Alice Lloyd College with an Associate Degree in Liberal Arts. Oma married Burnis G. Sparkman on September 3, 1965, in Kendallville, Indiana, and he passed away on September 22, 2018. She worked as a finisher at Cooper Tire and Rubber Company for 32 years, retiring in 1999. Oma was a member of the Waterloo Freewill Baptist Church in Waterloo, Indiana. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Anthony W. and Leanne Sparkman of St. Joe, and Brian and Shanna Sparkman of Waterloo; five grandchildren, Kyle Sparkman, Tyler Sparkman, Chase Sparkman, A. J. Sparkman and Alex Sparkman; five siblings and their spouses, Banner and Merita Vanderpool of Hippo, Kentucky, Milton Vanderpool of Martin, Kentucky, Lorene and Danny King of Tollesboro, Kentucky, Connie S. and Jay Handshoe of Hueysville, Kentucky and Virginia Prater of Hueysville, Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two brothers, Marvin Vanderpool and Claude Vanderpool. Services will be 11 a. m. Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 875 S. Wayne St. , Waterloo, with the Rev. Ron Stambaugh officiating. Burial will take place at Waterloo Cemetery. Jannis May (Becker) Tuttle, 90, of Auburn, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 19, 2023, at The Laurels of DeKalb Nursing Home in Butler, Indiana. Jannis was born March 25, 1933, in Kendallville, Indiana to Ralph C. and Miriam A. (Warble) Becker. She graduated from Waterloo High School in 1951. On Oct. 7, 1951, she married the love of her life, James L. Tuttle. They had four children, Stuart and Debra (twins), and Jeff and Larry. Jannis loved being a mother, and her children were always her first priority. She loved to cook and garden. She loved watching her boys play baseball and other sports and was always there to help with all her children's activities. She also loved helping with all the activities at the DeKalb County Coon Hunters Club. Jannis was always there to help her nine siblings with any problems they had, and she had such a giving heart. She worked at several jobs, but loved her job at DeKalb High School, where she was a janitor and then a cook in the cafeteria. She often taught her many co-workers how to cook and make the best gravy. She is survived by four children, Stuart Tuttle and his wife, Jena, Debra Tuttle Rhodes, Jeff Tuttle and his wife, Vickie, and Larry Tuttle; 17 grandchildren; 35 great- grandchildren; six great-great- grandchildren; sister, Rozanne Becker; and numerous nieces and nephews; and a multitude of dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Tuttle; son-in-law, Mark Rhodes; daughter-in-law, Brandy Tuttle; six sisters, Katherine, Louise, Marjorie, Nancy, Linda and Victoria Becker; and two brothers, Ralph Becker Jr. , and Richard Becker. A memorial service will take place at 7 p. m. , on Monday, Oct. 30, 2023, at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 875 S. Wayne St. , Waterloo, with Gabe Pranger officiating. Alice Eileen Stevens, 101, of Archie, MO passed away on Friday, September 15, 2023 at Medicalodge of Butler in Butler, MO. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, MO, with the visitation beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in Crescent Hill Cemetery in Adrian, MO. Eileen was born January 6, 1922 on a farm near Burdette, Missouri to Earl and Ruby (Wyer) Hill. She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at the Burdette Baptist Church at 13 years of age. Later after marriage and moving to Archie, she was a member of the Archie Baptist Church. She attended Adrian High School and graduated in 1938. In June 1940, she was united in marriage to Robert L. Stevens and had two sons, Robert and Kenneth. She and her husband built and operated the Dari-Dine drive-in restaurant together for 10 years. She continued the business for another 8 years after her husbands death, and retired in 1979. Her hobbies were knitting, quilting, reading, flower gardening, and playing cards. She leaves behind a legacy of love and hard-work, always reminding people to live by the Golden Rule and it is never too late to accept Jesus in your life. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Eileen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; her son, Kenneth Stevens; her brother, Harry Hill; and her sister, Mildred Ladish. She is survived by her oldest son, Robert D. Stevens and his wife, Viktoria; grandson, Sean Stevens; and a host of nieces and nephews.Show more

Ann Marie Hicks, formerly of West Liberty, KY, passed away Friday, August 18, 2023, age 68, peacefully with her family by her side at The Laurels of DeKalb in Butler, Indiana. Born September 23, 1954, at home in Ritchie, KY, to the late Cyrill and Velma Jean Hurt Ritchie. She attended school at Middle Clear Creek, at age 8, and moved to Rome City, IN. with her family and attended Rome City Elementary School. She received her high school diploma. After her school years, she worked in the kitchen at Kneipp Springs, a center for retired priests and nuns. She met the love of her life Vernon Hicks and married on January 1st, 1969, at Salem United Baptist Church in Ligonier, IN. They settled in Rome City, IN. , and started their family together. Over the years she worked at Star Craft Boats in Goshen, IN. , later they moved to West Liberty, KY, where she worked in the tobacco fields and called this their forever home. Ann loved her children, grand kids, and great-grand kids. She loved being a homemaker, crafts, quilting, fishing, gardening, and camping. Card games with family and friends were very important, playing Rook and Bean was a weekly get-together. You never knew what to expect from her. She was a jokester and the most loving, positive, and caring person we knew. She always had a beautiful smile. Preceded in death by her parents, Cyrill & Velma Jean Hurt Ritchie,her husband Vernon Hicks on July 20,2019, and three brothers, Johnny Ballard Ritchie, Burley Ritchie, and Manuel Jacob Ritchie. David Lee Slaybaugh, 68, of Butler, IN, passed away on Sunday, July 16, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family. David was a long-time resident of Butler. He was born on August 12, 1954 in Fremont, IN to the late Arthur and Dorothy (Straw) Slaybaugh. David had many jobs and retired from Dekalb Molded Plastics in 2017 after 17 years. He enjoyed playing darts, shooting pool, watching NASCAR (his favorite drivers were Dale Earnhart Sr. and Jr. ), and his most favorite thing to do was fishing. David married Patricia Evans of Butler and they had six children; Candy Salisbury of Fort Wayne, Cathy (Jim) Tarrant of Garrett, Angel (Todd) Lothamer of Grabill, Dave (Jennifer) Slaybaugh of Butler, Arthur (Becky) Slaybaugh of Auburn and Anita (Joe) Deetz of Stroh. He has 13 grandkids and 21 great-grandkids. David married Pamela Sanzo on June 29th, 2013 and gained two step-sons, Rocky (Jill) Sanzo of Augres, MI and Kyle (Lindsey) Sanzo of Butler and eight more grandkids. He is also survived by his sister, Linda (Eric) LuCarelli of Butler and brother, Daniel Slaybaugh of Fort Wayne. David was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Dale; two great-grandsons and two great-granddaughters. Funeral service will be on Friday, July 21, 2023 at 1:00 pm at H. E. Johnson and Sons Funeral Home, Butler with visitation beginning at 11:00 am until the time of service. Burial will follow the service to Butler Cemetery.
