Diana Medina

Age - 68

Diana "Nani" Medina, a beacon of joy who always saw the funny side of life, passed away at the age of 68 in Brooklyn, N. Y. , where she was also a native daughter, born on September 7, 1955. She left this world as she lived in it, with grace and a smile, succumbing to natural causes on November 30, 2023. Nani was the cherished big sister to Mimi and Patty. She often shined as the family's guiding light with her quick wit and boundless kindness. Her life was a testament to love, filled with the laughter that she believed was the best medicine, save for maybe a good spin on 'Wheel of Fortune,' her favorite game show. Her home was an oasis of warmth, where the coffee pot always ready to whistle and cake ready to be eaten. It was her canvas, and she painted with the colors of comfort and the brushstrokes of care. Nani's interests were as vibrant as her personality. She had an eye for art, a knack for nailing punchlines, and an uncanny ability to shout the correct 'Wheel of Fortune' answers at the TV. Her laughter was infectious, her spirit generous, and her ability to find humor in the mundane was a gift that kept on giving. Described by those who knew her best as loving, kind, and downright funny, Nani lived her life like a well-crafted joke--timing each moment to maximize joy and minimize sorrow. In the spirit of Nani's love for a good chuckle, she might have appreciated a quote by the legendary comedian Carol Burnett: "Comedy is tragedy plus time. " Nani knew that time could heal and that a good laugh could make that process a little bit easier. As we bid farewell to Diana "Nani" Medina, let's remember her not with a moment of silence, but with an uproar of laughter. Let us honor her memory by embracing the absurdities of life, by painting our days with joy, and by always keeping an eye out for the next letter to turn in our own puzzles of fortune. Nani's life was a puzzle well-solved, a game well-played, and a story told with the perfect punchline. May her legacy continue to inspire chuckles, for years to come.Show more

Julia "Julie" Ghigliotty, a beacon of joy and laughter in the lives of all who knew her, closed her final curtain on November 30, 2023, in the same Brooklyn neighborhood where her story began on January 9, 1955. Julie, a spirited and loving soul, faced breast cancer with the same courage and humor she brought to every aspect of her life. Julie's early years were spent in the bustling streets of Brooklyn, where she honed her talents for cooking and creating laughter at Bishop Kearny High School, graduating in 1972. She swiftly transitioned from student to the heart of Ayers and Thompson, whereas the Office Manager and Legal Secretary, she ruled with a gentle fist and a mischievous wink from '72 until '94. Julie's colleagues remember her as the one who could find the funny in the footnotes and the giggles in the legal briefs. Beyond the office walls, Julie's interests painted the town in vibrant hues of joy. She was a maestro in the kitchen, a green-thumbed goddess in her garden, and a crafty artisan whose arts could have put the 'fun' in any fundraiser. Julie's love for amusement parks was legendary; The swinging cars on the Wonder Wheel were her chariot, and Julie rode them with the same zest and zeal with which she lived her life. Her decorating skills were such that even the holidays seemed to ask for her advice. Each room she touched became a festive celebration of the moment. Julie leaves behind a legacy of laughter and love. Her husband, Luis, was her partner in both comedy and life for 45 years. She was the scriptwriter for her children, Rosemary and Hector, teaching them to find humor in the everyday. Her grandson, David, who was the light of her life, and her siblings, Michele and Frank, will carry on her tradition of spirited storytelling. In a life brilliantly lived, Julie taught us that courage could be found in a smile and that the most profound strength was the ability to laugh in the face of adversity. Julia Ghigliotty, the woman who could turn any trial into a punchline, will be profoundly missed and lovingly remembered as a woman who lived and laughed on her own terms.Show more
