GIG HARBOR, WA: Margaret "Peggy" (Lawton) Ott, 83, passed away peacefully at home with her family in Gig Harbor, WA on Sept. 27, 2023. She was born Sept. 13, 1940, to Robert and Helen Lawton in Washtucna, Washington, making her grand entrance in the farm kitchen. She was raised on the Washtucna wheat farm, as well as in Beaverton, Oregon and Walla Walla, Washington. Margaret graduated Washtucna High School in 1958. She attended Gonzaga University and Portland State University - where she met the love of her life Frank Ott III. She later graduated with a degree in Interior Design from Bassist College, Portland, in 1983. Margaret married Frank in 1962 kicking off many years of lively adventures including camping for the first time on their honeymoon with only one cooking pan in hand. She and Frank enjoyed raising their family together in Texas for a short time before settling in St Helens, Oregon until Frank's untimely passing in 1981. She moved to Washington state in 1985. She was a talented creative seamstress, stained-glass artist, green thumb, quirky garden art goddess, and antique aficionado. Many lucky diners enjoyed her delicious pies & baked treats, or her pot roast dinners. She loved her family deeply and she was generous with her talents, sewing prom dresses for her daughter's friends, baby quilts for needy moms and decorating her children's homes with custom curtains, hand-embroidered pillows, and much more. Her zest for adventures started at the young age of 8 when she and her cousin stole the family rowboat and spent a full day rowing around Mercer Island to her family's dismay. She hiked the Grand Canyon, floated the Colorado River in dory boats, traipsed across Europe and Greece, New Zealand and Australia. She traveled to Alaska nearly 30 times. Frank, an avid pilot, convinced her to learn to fly and she got her private pilot license. After spending many years as a homemaker, Margaret became a certified real estate appraiser and successfully started and owned her business Ott Appraisals for more than 25 years. Margaret was a member of the Gig Harbor Kiwanis Club and the Catholic church. She is survived by her children: Katrina (and Rob) Wilson of Bow, WA, grandchildren Stacey (and D'Arcy) Myette, Helen Wilson and Reid Wilson; Heidi (and Mike) Miles of Eagle River, AK, grandchildren Brendan Miles and Megan Miles; and Ambrose (and Stephanie) Ott of Gig Harbor, WA, grandchildren Aidan Ott and Owen Ott; and great grandchildren Ella and Luc Myette. She is also survived by her brother Dr Lawrence (and Joy) Lawton, her trusty four-legged companion Foxy, plus numerous family members and friends across the US. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank, sister Barbara, brother Richard, & her parents - all of whom she is reunited with in heaven. Patricia Cutting

Age - 92

December 1, 2023

passed away peacefully in November 2023, at almost 93 years of age. She was a wonderful person. Kind, compassionate, fun-loving, intelligent. She was a philosopher, a poet, and a teacher, and a believer in following your dreams. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dale Cutting, her best friend, Al Kessler, her grandson Jason Darrow, her sisters Margaret Farris and Thelma Mackey. She is survived by her brother Jim (Sandie) Morrison; her children Paula Clough, Elizabeth aka Brandy (Nick) Johnson and David (Karen) Cutting; grandchildren Gillian Darrow, Ryan Cutting, Dustin Johnson and Anthony Johnson; great-grandchildren Parker Panda and Kiersten Brooks; numerous nieces and nephews from both the Morrison and the Cutting families. Pat began life in North Dakota. A part of the Dust Bowl migration in the 1930's, she and her family moved to Enumclaw, WA where, unbeknownst to her at the time, her future husband was living on a dairy farm just down the road. From Enumclaw, her family moved to Bremerton, WA where she graduated from High School. She then attended college in Ellensburg, WA, working towards a teaching degree. There, in the University Library, she was introduced to Dale Cutting. In September 1949 Pat and Dale were married. They shared many adventures and had a full and happy life together. They first moved to Cobalt, ID where Paula and Elizabeth were born. Dale worked in the Mining Industry and the family moved around a lot. In Lakeview, OR David was born. In Granger, UT (now West Valley City), Pat and Dale were founding members of the Westvale Presbyterian Church which is still in service today. Pat earned her Bachelor's degree at the University of Utah, majoring in History and minoring in Philosophy. In Riverton, WY she taught at Riverton High School. In Albuquerque, NM she earned her Master's degree and her Doctorate in Philosophy. After earning her Doctorate, she was awarded the Fulbright Scholarship and moved to Denmark for a year where she was given access to the original writings of Soren Kierkegaard - Danish theologian, philosopher, and poet. She performed her own translation of his works, believing that one of his key concepts had been mis-translated in earlier times. Her work was later included in college Philosophy textbooks. She contributed a section to the International Kierkegaard Commentary published in 1984. Returning to New Mexico after Denmark, she taught classes at the State Prison outside of Santa Fe, and in the University system in Albuquerque. She also spent an academic year in Madison, Wisconsin teaching at the University. When her husband Dale semi-retired, they moved back to West Valley City, UT where Dale passed away. Pat and Al Kessler, who was a friend of the family, became close friends and shared many happy times. While in West Valley City, Pat became interested in writing Poetry and was quite prolific in her writings. She was a past President of the Utah Poetry Society and had many poems published in collections such as Utah Sings and the 1989 American Anthology of Contemporary Poetry. She was awarded Honorable Mention in an International Poetry competition for her poem "Mozzarella, Lots of Mozzarella" about a time she and Dale shared in Italy. Pat was passionate about Global Human Rights. For many years she was the head of the United Nations Association Education Committee. Her task was to educate in-coming legislators about Global Human Rights. Members of Congress would consult her on the subject in relation to issues being addressed and put forward during the Legislative process. In 2013, Pat moved to Edmonds WA where she lived with her sister Thelma. They shared many fun and happy times. Pat treasured the time with her sister. It was fun to visit and see them get fun little twinkles in their eyes when they shared stories of their escapades when they were children. And Pat was so happy about living close to her brother Jim and his wife Sandie, and spending time with them and with the many nieces and nephews in the area. And, to her great surprise, she became a Fanatic Fan of the Seattle Seahawks. In 2017, Pat moved to the Battle Ground area and joined her daughter Brandy and son-in-law Nick at their home in the country. During Football Season, you would find Pat and Nick in front of the TV, wearing Seahawks Regalia, and celebrating every Seahawks play and Touchdown - Go Seahawks! Brandy discovered that Pat was a Star Trek fan - the original one with William Shatner. The two of them watched all of the episodes at least three times each. Favorite ones more than that. During the last year of her life, Pat lived with the Cosovan family in an Adult Family Home in Battle Ground, where she was loved and well cared for. Thanks to Ala and her family, Mom had many moments of joy and fun and laughter. Pat would often be seen going down the hall from her room to the Family Room with her walker doing a fancy little jig along the way. The deck and Grape Arbor seen through the French Doors in her room added a sense of peace and beauty to her life. And the grapes were yummy! A graveside service will be held at 1:00pm Monday December 4, 2023, at Enumclaw Evergreen Memorial Park. To to the family or in memory of Patricia Grace Cutting, pleaseShow more
