Marcela Bustamante Urías, born on April 24, 1929, in Guadalupe, Chihuahua, Mexico, peacefully passed away surrounded by her loved ones at home on November 28, 2023. She was the cherished youngest of 12 children, proudly known as "La Consentida de todos. " Her mother, Elisa Bustamante (nee Gomez), raised her in their small Juarez pueblito on the El Paso border. While her father, Justo Bustamante was the town Sheriff, and built the only town church brick by brick. Marcela, a devoted LA Dodgers fan since 1958, experienced her favorite era with FernandoMania in the ’80s and, at the age of 89, attended her first World Series game in 2018, a heartfelt gift from around 100 of her granddaughter’s friends. She always said it was the best day of her life, until she had her 90th birthday celebration with her closest friends and family. That became her self proclaimed best day of her long life. A gifted storyteller, Marcela’s tales ranged from traditional Mexican folklorico dancing in school pageants to her adventures in the vibrant Los Angeles dance scene with her best friend Lydia, where she earned a reputation for refusing dance requests from muchachos with dirty shoes. Marcela’s proudest honor was motherhood, and she extended her nurturing care beyond her five children, helping raise nieces, nephews, and countless others. She profoundly adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her face would light up anytime either of them walked into the room. She’d immediately grab their faces and kiss their foreheads. Known for her early morning ritual of crafting her legendary flour tortillas, Marcela had a superstition about eating the first tortilla in the stack, often filling hungry hands with rolled up tortillas with melted butter inside. Her love for music spanned Latin genres, and she danced with joy to mambo, Cha Cha, and Cumbias. Marcela attended memorable concerts, including Pedro Infante and Tigres del Norte, embodying the saying "Mas vale vivir rico que morir rico. "A devout Catholic, Marcela found strength in prayer, lighting candles for various saints, and always affirming her plans with "Si Dios es Servido. "Marcela Bustamante Urías is reunited in the afterlife with her parents, her husband Luciano Urias, and her beloved sons, Raul and Jose. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and warmth that will be remembered by her surviving children: Elisa Ramirez (Tony), Yolanda Gietzen (Rod), seven grandchildren (Eddie, Monica, Marc, Sommer, Natalie, and Marissa) and eight great-grandchildren, as well as all those fortunate enough to be touched by her presence. Our beloved Jason Nash unexpectedly departed on December 2, 2023, leaving countless dear family and friends with profound sadness and very heavy hearts. Jason was born on February 12, 1984, in Oxnard, California to Karen and Dan Nash. As a driven and athletic kid, Jason's love for baseball bloomed on the fields as he played for CBC little league. He continued to develop his skills playing throughout his high school and college years. Jason's lifelong passion for baseball fueled his dream to one day become a baseball scout. Continuing to nurture his love for the sport, he spent much of his time pouring into others through his work as a loving baseball coach and mentor. One of his favorite roles was coaching his son Carter's baseball team. Jason also loved the outdoors. Childhood memories echoed with joy of family camping trips, a love he would later introduce and share with his wife and son. If you didn't know Jason personally, to know him was to love and admire him. Dedicated father, loving and supportive husband, beloved son and brother, and cherished friend to many are just a few ways to describe what he meant to us all. His infectious laughter and his compassionate spirit touched everyone around him. It goes without saying that he will be sorely missed. Donald Porter

Donald Porter

Age - 91

December 5, 2023

Donald Randal Porter returned home to his Heavenly Father on Monday, November 20, 2023. Dad was born February 5, 1932 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Randal and Florence Porter during what has come to be known as "The Great Depression. " He spoke often of those trying times and how his family did not have much money, nevertheless there was always an abundance of love in his home. His father Randal was a finish carpenter by trade. Randal and his wife Florence also worked together as custodians responsible for cleaning the 3-story church of the 14th Ward building that they attended in Salt Lake City. They lived in the caretaker’s cottage behind the chapel provided to those assigned as custodians. Dad helped his father clean the chapel and shared childhood stories of how his father would cut the power to the building and make eerie whistling noises in the darkened building. He and his father would then engage in a cat and mouse game to see who could find the other in the dark first. In 1950 Dad graduated from West High in Salt Lake City. On March 18, 1952 he married Barbara Hoagland with whom he had 2 sons, Gregory and Gary. He attended the University of Utah and graduated with a degree in Business Management. During his time at University he was involved in the Reserve Officer's Training Corps (ROTC), a college program that prepares young adults to become officers in the U. S. Military. In his early twenties, dad entered the Air Force as a Lieutenant. While stationed at the Aeronautical Chart and Information Center in St. Louis, Missouri, he had a unique experience. He was placed in charge of the procurement and contracting office on the base. This included 30 civil service buyers and contracting personnel for which he was responsible. The base commander told him when he arrived that the job was assigned for a Major, who had just left and would be replaced with another shortly. Six months later dad had the occasion to ask the base commander when the new Major would arrive. Dad was informed that there had been a conversation with the General at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton Ohio, and it was decided that since dad had been performing so well it was now his job. Six months later dad was given the rank of Captain. At the conclusion of his Air Force service, he was hired by the Southern California Edison electric utility company and retired in 1989 after 30+ years as a customer service manager. Dad was a good athlete, having played basketball, softball, tennis, and table tennis. Numerous trophies and medals in his home attest to his passion for these sports. Dad struggled with knee pain and often remarked, "those sports are what took my knees out. " Tennis was the sport dad loved most. He played number one singles in high school and the University of Utah until he took on a job to pay for school. When his knees would no longer allow him to play tennis, he started a table tennis, aka ping pong, club. The club started with six players, five from the Camarillo ward, including Devon Hansen and Burl Bushman. They began with one broken down table that the maintenance men from Pleasant Valley Park and Recreation had to repair every other week. Twenty-five years later when he retired from the club there were fifty-six players and eight tournament tables. Dad felt sorrow for mistakes made in his life but would say, "even so earth has no sorrow, which heaven cannot heal" and dad tried to make up for his mistakes the best he knew how. He was loved by many and will be missed. We are grateful for the lessons he taught us. On December 3, 1977, he married Elizabeth Whitney with whom he had 3 children Randy, Robin, and Julie. He was preceded in his passing by his father Randal Porter, mother Florence Porter, and sister Joan Ferraro. He is survived by his children Gregory Porter, Gary Porter, Randy Porter, Robin Porter, and Julie Porter. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December, 15 2023 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 1201 Paseo Camarillo, Camarillo, CA 93010. There will be a visitation in the Relief Society room at 10am with the service to follow at 11am in the chapel.Show more

Kenneth Anderson

Kenneth Anderson

Age - 87

November 28, 2023

Ken was born September in North Dakota to Arthur and Orris Anderson, the third of five children. He was raised on a small farm in Christine, ND where three generations gathered around the table for meals, everyone worked hard, and Sunday was honored as the Lord's Day. No matter what the weather, the family went to church; a lifelong commitment which was reflected in his love for his family, devotion to God, and his profound desire to serve others. While still in grade school, Ken met Janice L. Nellermoe and determined, even at that young age, to make her his bride. They married and had four daughters: Toni Lynne (deceased), Rebecca, Rochelle, and Tamalyn. Ken began his college career at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN. After receiving his degree in dentistry from the University of Minnesota in 1962, Ken served as a dentist in the US Army in Oklahoma from 1962-1964. When Ken and Jan first set eyes on Camarillo, they fell in love with the area and moved their young family to town in 1964 before Camarillo became a city. Ken's private dental practice grew steadily because of his genuine care and concern for each patient. After nine years in solo practice, Ken joined Dewey Good and Don Arstein and formed the current Rosewood Dental practice. Even with a booming dental practice, Ken took plenty of time to coach his daughters in various sports, help them with 4-H animals, and teach them to snow/water ski, hike, and fish. Together with Jan, they raised strong, competent, and loving daughters who each realized how blessed they were to have such amazing parents. Ken had an insatiable curiosity. He could and did spend hours reading the fine print under every museum artifact or painting. He poured over the Smithsonian and National Geographic magazines, took adult classes and asked endless questions of tour guides on trips. Ken and Jan enjoyed vacations with friends to Holland, China, Bolivia, South America, Antarctic, New Zealand, and Alaska. For several years Ken volunteered and traveled to Nicaragua to perform dental work on local residents. He was always serving others. The community was enriched by Ken's participation on the Boys and Girls Club Board of Directors, PV Lions Club, First Lutheran and then Peace Lutheran Church boards, and Santa Barbara/Ventura County Dental Association. Even in his mid-80's Ken eagerly signed up to pick fruit for Food Share on weekends. Ken's zest for life and deep appreciation for nature is evident by his hiking much of the Pacific Crest Trail, scaling Mt Whitney (several times), traversing the Grand Canyon, and taking numerous hikes within the Smokey Mountains. He was continuously astounded by the beauty of God's creation and captured innumerable sunsets, flowers, and waterfalls in photos. After Ken was widowed in July of 2016, he found love a second time with Shirley Smithtro whom he married in September, 2018. They shared a deep faith and gratitude for every day of their lives together which included countless trips, golf, cruises, bridge, dancing, concerts, and friendships. Ken was preceded in death by his wife Jan, brothers, Art (Karen) and Ralph. He is survived by his wife Shirley, daughters Becky Grossman (Scott), Chelle Smith (David), and Tammy Anderson, sister Linda Hestdalen (Gene), brother Loren Anderson (Terri), sister-in-law VonDel Anderson, seven grandchildren: Lindsay, Garrett (Erin), Mckenzie, Kelsea (David), Katarina, Matthew and Andrew (Casey), and three wonderful great-grandchildren: Ella, Oliver, and Jett. Ken touched so many people in his 87 years. His brilliant smile and kindness to everyone will not be forgotten. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, December 2, 2023 at 10:00am at Conejo Mountain Memorial Park, 2052 Howard Road, Camarillo. Internment and a reception will immediately follow the service. Live streaming video of the service and memorial page is available at mortuary's web site for Kenneth Anderson. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Ken's favorite organization which he served for 58 years: PV Lions Club P. O Box 157, Camarillo 93010. Manuel Garcia

Manuel Garcia

Age - 71

November 28, 2023

It is with a heavy heart to announce the passing of great man, Manuel Garcia, on Tuesday November 14th in his home, surrounded by love. Manuel recently celebrated his 71st birthday. He was an amazing son, father, papa, brother, nino, cousin, and friend. Manuel is survived by his daughter, Lori Ghassedi and her four children. Grandchildren; Jacqueline Mendoza (Joshua), Alyssa Mendoza (Felix III), Sy Ghassedi, and Gavyn Ghassedi. Great-grandchildren; Ford, Harlyn Walker, Kennedy Nicol & Felix IV. His beloved mother, Mercedes Garcia. Loving Sisters, Ester Garcia, Delia Garcia, Alicia Cobos, and Leticia Garcia as well as many nieces, nephews, and god-children. Manuel moved to Ventura with his parents and younger sisters in 1957 at the age of 5 years old and has been a resident of Ventura County ever since. His love for baseball started when he played for Saticoy Little League and grew up to become an Angels fan. In addition to attending Buena High School, Manuel landed his first job as a gas station attendant in Saticoy. He then became a Cement Apprentice and was a member of the Plasterers & Cement Mason - Local 741. He mastered his trade and spent most of his career working for Lorenzana Construction and G&R Concrete. He retired from working in the field in 2017. Manuel cherished spending time with his daughter, grandchildren, family, and friends. He was a true Dallas Cowboys fan and shared that love for the team with his daughter and grandsons. He loved his 1956 Chevy Bel Air. He also enjoyed going to car shows and the races to support Mike’s 3-Point Auto Drag Race Team with family and friends. Manuel loved camping and fishing at his favorite place, Hobson Beach. One of many special attributes about Manuel that will be missed is his passion to lend a helping hand and expect nothing in return (except a cold 18 pack of Budweiser). Manuel had a green thumb and he was always eager to share his home grown veggies. His home, especially the garage, was a place of great memories shared with family and friends since 1976. Although he will be missed dearly by all of us here, we have peace in our hearts knowing that he is now in the presence of those he missed and loved. Manuels hard working hands can now rest… Until we meet again, watch over us all as our Guardian Angel. The family wishes to acknowledge Dr. Megan Mescher-Cox and her office for their genuine compassion, care, and love for Manuel as he fought diligently. Thank you Dr. Cox we are forever grateful for all you did. Special thanks to Dr. Warner Peng and the kind nurses at the Hematology and Oncology Specialist office.
