Margaret Mortenson Obituary

"Margaret "Christine" Mortenson, age 99, passed away on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, in Muskegon, MI. She was born on January 19, 1924, in Muskegon, to her parents Dudley and Anna (Proffitt) Smyth. She spent her first few years growing up in Mancelona, MI, before moving to Muskegon, where she spent the rest of her life. She graduated from Mona Shores High School and then went on to graduate from cosmetology school. She was a hairdresser and owner of her own salon, Christine's Salon, for 50 years. She was also the president of the Hairdresser's Association for many years. Christine was a spirited red head who loved dancing and playing bingo, and she enjoyed cooking and caring for as many people as she could. Christine will be lovingly remembered by her two daughters: Darleen (Ronald) Rowe and Cynthia (David) Spyke; four grandchildren: Steven Rowe, Denise Rowe, Jeffrey Iverson, and Jennifer (Wade) Foster; five great-grandchildren: Ryan Berry, Rae'ven Whitfield, Elissa Case, Luke Iverson, and Logan Iverson; two great-great-grandchildren: Everlee Case and Rian Mae Berry; and many nieces and nephews, who all lovingly referred to Christine as "Aunt Teeny". Christine was preceded in death by her parents, Dudley and Anna Smyth; husband, Thomas Mortenson; an infant son, David Steele; and all nine of her siblings: Opal, Donna, Grace, Ethel, Ardys, Norma, Ruth, David, and Betty. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staffs of Christian Care Assisted Living and Hospice of Michigan for their kind and compassionate care. Per Christine's wishes no public services are being held, but charitable donations in her memory may be made out to Hospice of Michigan.
