Born and raised in Folsom, LA, he was the son of the late Duncan and Elizabeth Pierre. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Connie L Pierre, of South Chesterfield; a brother, Castle Pierre, of Mississippi; and as well as several other family members and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Charles, Luther, Lindsey, Eldon; and sisters, Eva Mae and Elvira. Mr. Pierre who was a Vietnam Veteran proudly served his country within the United States Army for 23 years and 7 months. While serving he received many accommodations and medals. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Frances “Fran” Louise Pugh. Born in York, PA on March 16, 1945, she passed away peacefully, surrounded by her daughters, on February 22, 2024, in Chesterfield, VA. Fran will be reunited with her parents, Charles and Virginia Beck; her loving husband, Roger William Pugh; and her beloved daughters, Cheryl Ann Spears and Constance Paige Pugh.Fran’s memory will live on with her daughters, Sandy Smith (Dan), Gail Short, Rebecca Noel (Wayne), and Deanna Rae. She also leaves behind her twenty grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, and her faithful and beloved four-legged companion, Max.After graduating from William Penn High School and getting her Associate’s Degree, Fran began a career working for the United States Department of Defense. After retiring, Fran found fulfillment in her role at Jackson Davis Elementary, where she continued her passion for helping others.In her lifetime, she found joy in aiding those in need and took pleasure in hobbies such as solving crossword puzzles, reading, and sharing the memories she had of the children she cared for at the school. Fran was a devoted pet owner to her dog Max, who brought her great comfort and companionship. She will be remembered for her compassionate spirit and dedication to making a difference in the lives of those she touched.Family and friends will gather for a visitation on Wednesday, February 28, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Bliley’s – Staples Mill. Services will take place the next morning at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 29, at Bliley’s – Staples Mill with interment to follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Jackson Davis Elementary in Fran’s honor.

Joan Mays Stewart, 82, of Lynchburg, passed away on Sunday, February 18, in Chesterfield, Virginia, where she was a resident at Bickford of Chesterfield.Joan was born on September 30, 1941, in Lynchburg, to Emmett Earl Mays and Ethel Williams Mays. She grew up in a close-knit family in downtown Lynchburg and attended Franklin Street Baptist Church. She graduated from E.C. Glass High School in 1960 and then worked for Southern Parts & Bearings and Southland Life Insurance.Joan and her husband, Darrell Stewart, were married in 1962 and had two children, Susan and Michael. For more than 20 years, Joan ran a daycare business from home and cared for many neighborhood children and loved them as much as she loved her own. She also worked as a sales associate for Hecht’s, later Macy’s, for 20 years in the children’s department.Joan enjoyed supporting her husband, Darrell, in his love of music with the band Revised Edition, and her children and grandchildren in their endeavors. She loved being a Nana. She was kind, patient and caring, and she had a beautiful smile. She and Darrell had 56 happy years together until his passing in 2019, and they were surrounded by many loving friends and neighbors who were as close as family.She is survived by Susan and her boyfriend, Craig Evans; Michael and his wife, Jenell Zemany Stewart; grandchildren Kaelah, Madison, Jaxon, Carter, Brady, Corbin and Eleanor; sister Brenda Mays of Roanoke, Virginia; and several grand-dogs, including her beloved Sadie. She is preceded in death by her younger brother, Joe Mays.Joan will be cremated and her ashes scattered with Darrell’s. The family respectfully suggests that, in lieu of flowers, friends and family consider making a donation to a favorite charity or helping someone in need. A memorial service/celebration of life will be planned for April or May in Lynchburg.

Tristan Christopher Wiley, 35, of Chesterfield, passed away February 16, 2024. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert “Bobby” Blaine Wiley. He is survived by his wife, Ashley Wiley; step-daughter, Alysa Turner; son, Aiden Wiley; daughter, Tessa Wiley; mother, Sandy Wiley; brother, Brian Irby (Pam); sister, Jennifer Messner (Gene); and brother, Teagan Wiley (Taylor). Tristan fought with everything he had for four years before his death from colon cancer. He was a loving husband, wonderful father and loyal friend. He loved fiercely, cherished spending time with his kids, and never met a stranger. Tristan was a hard worker. Loved working with his hands and building cars. Loved his bourbon.A celebration of his life will be held at a later date to be determined.

Phenix O. Sumner, a resident of Chesterfield Heights, was called to his heavenly home to be with the lord on February 4, 2024. He was born on April 23, 1962, in Norfolk, VA, to the late John and Louise Sumner. Phenix was also preceded in death by his siblings Patricia Reid, Shirley Sumner, Windy Sumner, Freddie Sumner, Milton Sumner, and Sandora Sumner. He is survived by his beloved wife, Cheryll Sumner; his siblings Shelia Jordan, Silvia Walker, Pernell Sumner, Lamar Sumner, Marvin Sumner, Clara Barnes (Willie), Willie Sumner (Lanette); his adoring children, Reshad Davis, Alicia Wallace, Sydney Sumner, India Sumner, Phenix Sumner Jr., and Zaire Sumner; his seven grandchildren, Tyshad Davis, Tyanna Davis, Zyahana Davis, Kaiden Wilson, Kimora Wilson, Kalvin Wilson, and Kamiyah Wilson; and one great-grandchild, Blake Davis. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Phenix joined the US Army on March 31, 1981, and served as a Computer Machine Operator in San Antonio, TX, and Germany until his honorable discharge on June 30, 1986. After his time in the military, he worked as a System Analyst Manager and became self-employed in 2001, founding Phenix Contracting for home renovations. Phenix was a community leader and a significant figure in the Chesterfield Heights Civic League, where he coordinated several events and played a vital role in securing The Stanhope House. He was affectionately known as the Mayor of Chesterfield Heights. Phenix was also a trustee of Alpha and Omega Baptist Fellowship. He shared his love through his acts of service.
