"Rev. Ralph Thomas Martin, 92, went to be with the Lord at on November 24th, 2023 at Columbus Regional Hospital. The son of Maynard R. Martin Sr. and Ann G. Buckley Martin, Ralph was born on October 4, 1931, in Columbus Township. He married Gloria M. Fish on June 2nd, 1951. Ralph worked at Cummins Engine Company for 38 years. After retirement, he continued to work at Cummins in the Security department. Ralph also served as a minister in the Christian Churches at Jonesville and Waynesburg, after receiving his ministry classes at Ozark Bible College and public speaking courses at Dale Carnegie Institute. Ralph loved serving the Lord at Garden City Christian Church for many years beside his wife. He was a life-long gardener and woodcutter, as well as serving as the chaplain for the C. R. E. A. K. Club for many years. Ralph and Gloria raised four children, Susan (Danny) Mayes, of Elizabethtown, Sandi Barriger of Columbus, Shari Martin of Florida, and Randy (Tammy) Martin of Florida. They have five grandchildren; Mandy (Chris) Long, Chris (Meagan) Martin, Cory (Sabrina) Sullivan, Brian (Angie) Barriger, and Natalie (Scott) Steinhauser; twelve great-grandchildren; as well as numerous step grandchildren, and step great-grandchildren, all of whom survived. He is also survived by a brother Warren Martin. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Maynard Martin Jr. and Paul Martin; as well as his sisters Donna Juraskovich, Lorraine Pacheco, and Helen Miller. A Celebration of Ralph's life will be held at 12:00 p. m. Thursday, November 30, 2023 at Garden City Christian Church with Rev. Virgil Clotfelter and Rev. Brian Gilroy officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a. m. until the time of services on Thursday at the church. Burial shall be at Garland Brook Cemetery. "Bonnie A. Overfelt peacefully passed away on Friday, November 24, 2023, at the age of 90. Born October 22, 1933, Bonnie was the daughter of Charles M. and Edna C. (Green) Ackenback. She married her childhood sweetheart, James L. Overfelt, on August 23, 1952, at Ogilville Church of Christ with Rev. Harold Barnett officiating. A former member of Garden City Church of Christ, she volunteered in the church library. Bonnie loved gardening and growing flowers. She held various jobs throughout her life, most importantly her home daycare where she found joy in caring for children after her own had grown and moved away. Bonnie and her husband loved to travel to spend time with family or in nature. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She had a great love for her family and brought joy to everyone she met. Known for her smile and strong yet gentle manner, she was well-loved by family and friends. Bonnie is survived by her children: Bonita (Chuck) Surges of Indianapolis, Vicki (Dan) Nelson of Shelbyville, Jim (Sharon) Overfelt of Portland, TN, and Steve (Sarah) Overfelt of Salem, SC; her grandchildren: Amy (Rihanek) Fischer, Alison Seaborne, DJ Nelson, Lacy (Matt) Lewis, Michael Nelson, Cassi (Chris) Frazier, Jamie (Jake) Izard, Andrew (Megan) Overfelt, Jason Overfelt, Rylee Overfelt; and 11 great-grandchildren with one on the way. She is also survived by her brother, Charles E. Ackenback, and her two sisters, Dorene Breland and Carole Lewis. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brother, Robert Ackenback; and three great-grandchildren. Per Bonnie's request, there will be no services. William (Bill) Paul Guffey, age 82, of Columbus, Indiana passed away at his home on Saturday, November 25, 2023. Bill was born on December 25, 1940 in Hamilton, Missouri the late Cecil and Bonita Guffey. He was a 1959 graduate from Penny High School where he participated in sports, showing sheep, and was an outstanding member of the Future Farmers of America. Bill went on to the University of Missouri where he pledged Alpha Gamma Sigma and graduated in 1963. He married Brenda Hayes on December 29, 1963. Bill spent many years in the banking industry and retired as Senior Vice President at Irwin Union Bank. He played several national softball tournaments, winning a World Series in 1991 with the Legends and the 1990 National Championship with Capitol Oil. Bill raised and showed American Quarter Horses and was a part owner in Good Version, who was a leading sire and inducted into the NSBA Hall of Fame. He enjoyed collecting Santa figurines and was always tinkering with something in the barn. Upon retiring, Bill loved sharing those hobbies with his granddaughters and enjoyed having one of the best Christmas light displays in town. Survivors include his wife, Brenda, children Dana (Skip) Ramage and Denise (Jim) Hoffman, grandchildren Paige (Garrett) Jackson, Katherine (Wyatt) Ramage, and Whitney (Trey) Axsom, along with two great-grandchildren, Harper and Rhett. Bill was proceeded in death by his parents, daughter, Leslie, and brothers and sisters. Visitation will be held at Myers and Reed Funeral Home, Columbus, Indiana on December 7, 2023 from 4 pm-7 pm. "Donald Lewis Schmidt, also known as Diamond Don by his friends, passed away on his own terms at the farm he loved, where mowing grass was his therapy, surrounded by his friends and family on November 12th, 2023. Don was born on July 12th, 1935, to Bernice S. And Donald George Schmidt in Madison Indiana. His family moved to Indianapolis, Indiana where he attended grade school 69 and met his wife of 68 years Patty Sullivan during the 1st grade. Don went on to graduate from Arsenal Technical High School in 1954. Don and Pat were later married on September 18th, 1955, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Don worked as a union carpenter on bridges and roads. He also worked constructing new homes. Donald Allen and Kimberly were born to him and his wife in Indianapolis, Indiana. He and his family later moved to Columbus in 1965 where they started their business, Overhead Door of Columbus Inc. With the help of family and great friends, he operated his business for 53 years. During his ownership, he won many awards from the Overhead Door Corporation. He always treated his employees as if they were his own family. Don taught his employees well, and a few of them went on to become competitors. He was president of Schmidt Construction Company where he developed Miles Ridge in Madison, Indiana, and Hidden River Valley in Sellersburg, Indiana. He and Pat spent their winters at Fort Myers Beach, Florida where he enjoyed fishing and cruising on his boat around Southern Florida. They also enjoyed traveling around the United States and Canada in their motor home. Don was very generous to all of his friends and never failed to lend a helping hand. Don worked hard and played even harder. Diamond Don was a bit flashy and had a potty mouth. 5:00 PM was his CC and yellow cup time. Sometimes in his speedo and pink crocs terrorizing Grandview Lake on his Sea-Doo later relaxing in his hot tub overlooking the lake. Their neighbors would say, "The Schmidts are coming home while we are eating breakfast!" He was always the life of the party; you always knew he was there. He was the biggest duck in the puddle. He shared his love for racing and drove a Datsun 2000 in SCCA Racing and he participated in the finals at Road America. Don loved horses, motorcycles, and running equipment. His favorite pastime was socializing over lunch at the Downtown Dairy Queen. His family and friends are very thankful for the many things he did for all of them. Don was preceded in death by his son Donald A. Schmidt, his daughter Kimberly Schmidt, his grandson Collin Schmidt and his parents. Don is survived by his wife of 68 years Pat Schmidt, grandson Griffin Schmidt of L. A. California, Kip A. and Clare Corya of Mesa, Arizona, Brandon and Carla Corya of Columbus, Indiana, his great-grandchildren Taylor, Charlie, Myla Corya, Adriana (Philip) Artis, great great grandson Lance Carter Artis who he lovingly nicknamed L. C. and many more cousins and friends. There will be no formal service scheduled for Don. We ask that you keep Don in your heart and memory to honor him. "Our sweet Kole David tragically passed away on November 15, 2023, at the age of 16. Kole was born on July 21, 2007. He immediately grasped his dad's pinkie upon entering this world. This was a sign of the life that lay ahead of him. Kole fiercely loved his family. He cherished the time he spent loving and interacting with his two younger brothers and his little sister, yet his special bond was reserved for his momma, Kim. They shared a bond that can only be described as everlasting. Kole was a friend to many and was always willing to listen and help. His friend circle spread far and wide. His friends were not limited to any one school or group. He loved to communicate over his phone and pull all-nighters with his boys. He made friends easily and always wanted to be with them. Many of his friendships stemmed from his love of basketball. He played for many teams over the years. Kole worked very hard at basketball and spent countless hours with his dad honing his craft. He also loved riding 4-wheelers and UTVs. He could often be found making laps in the backyard while blasting the music he loved so much. Most importantly, Kole gave his life to Jesus at an early age. He was baptized in the family pool many years ago. Kole is with Jesus and made whole today because of the blood of Jesus. Praise God. Kole will be missed by many. The loss of Kole leaves a great hole in all our hearts. He was an amazing son, loving brother, grandson, great-grandson, nephew, and cousin. "Jerry Wayne Watkins Sr. , 66, of Columbus, passed away November 13, 2023 at the home of his daughter. Jerry was born May 31, 1957 in Columbus, the son of James and Helen Godsey Watkins. He was a U. S. Army Veteran, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and being in the outdoors. Jerry also enjoyed working with the animals on the farm, tinkering, singing, shooting pool, and watching as well as participating in demolition derbies. Jerry would say his real love is riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, but deep down, his real love was his family. He loved spending time with his kids and his grandkids. Jerry is survived by his wife Wendy Sue Watkins; sons Ronald Watkins and Nickiah (Cassidy) Watkins both of Columbus, and Jerry (Elizabeth) Watkins of North Vernon; daughters Bonnita (Bruce) Russell, Ashley (Tony) Walker, and Crystal Watkins all of Columbus; step-daughters Danelle (Patrick) Gates and Samantha Long both of Columbus; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers Bobby Joe Watkins and Bill Watkins both of Columbus, Mike (Carolyn) Watkins of Greensburg, and Floyd Watkins of Columbus; and sisters Jeanie Watkins of Lexington, Kentucky and Norma (David) Watkins of Columbus. "Margaret M. (Marge) Pongracz, 85, of Columbus, IN passed away at 2:37 a. m. Monday, November 6, 2023, at Bickford of Greenwood. Marge was born on July 21, 1938, in East Chicago, IN to Frank Wontorek and Anne Kasprzyk Wontorek. Marge graduated in 1956 from Bishop Noll High School in Hammond, Indiana. She married her high school sweetheart, Vincent Paul Pongracz on June 20, 1959, moving to Columbus, IN to start their family. Marge was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and proud homemaker. She was a charter member of St. Columba Catholic Church, working part-time in the church office as a secretary, and later a faithful member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church. She enjoyed volunteering for Meals on Wheels and the Columbus JayShee's. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, bridge club, crossword, and jigsaw puzzles, bird watching (especially hummingbirds), and meeting friends for lunch and coffee. She loved musicals, especially the Sound of Music. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10 a. m. Friday, November 10, 2023, at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church with Father Clem Davis officiating. Calling hours will be one hour prior to the service Friday at the church. Marge will be laid to rest beside her husband, Vince, and son, Michael at Garland Brook Cemetery.
