Marcus H. Smoker, Jr. , age 74 of Kinzers, PA, passed away at his home on Sunday, September 10, 2023. He was the husband of Jean M. DiGiamberadini Smoker, with whom he celebrated 54 years of marriage on January 4th. He was born in Lancaster, son of the late Marcus H. Sr. and Doris Keller Smoker. He worked as a plumber, working for W. S. Horst Plumbing and Heating, Frey Lutz and then retiring from CMC. He enjoyed going to flea markets, car shows and auctions. Surviving besides his wife are 2 sons: Scott husband of Lillian Ramos Smoker of Kinzers, David Smoker of Gap, 6 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter, 3 siblings: Barry husband of Ann Treadway Smoker, Brenda Sollenberger and Sheri wife of Danny Jones. He was preceded in death by a brother Jeff Smoker. Services will be at the convenience of the family.

Mary Jean Herr, 93, formerly of Truce, PA, completed her time on earth on Nov. 29, 2023 at Landis Homes where she was a resident for over nine years. She was the daughter of Walter and Stella (Stern) Heistand and wife of Ira C Herr, Jr. After graduating from Lancaster Mennonite School, Mary Jean married and raised her family of five children while working part-time at John E. Landis Company. Later she worked at Willow Valley in the kitchen. She read stories and played games with her children. She was a member of Mechanic Grove Mennonite Church and later became a member of Rawlinsville Mennonite Church. Mary Jean's siblings and parents all preceded her in death. Besides her husband, Ira, surviving are her four children: Rachel H. , wife of Mervin Frey of Greencastle, PA, Ira C. Herr III, husband of Cindy of Lancaster, PA, Edward Herr of Bellevue, Idaho, and Nevin Herr of Bellevue, Idaho. Mary Jean had nine grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Also, preceding her in death was a daughter Rhoda Martin and one grandchild. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to the funeral service at Rawlinsville Mennonite Church at 10:00 on Dec. 5, 2023. Viewing with be at 9:00 in the church prior to the service. Charles J. Lefever, Jr. age, 86, passed away on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at Landis Homes. He was the husband of the late Marlene L. Amway Lefever who died December 14, 2020. Born in Gordonville, he was the son of the late Charles J. and Marian K. Mellinger Lefever, Sr. Charlie was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Strasburg, where he served as a deacon, trustee, and elder. He also served on several church mission trips. He had been employed as a quality control supervisor for the former Ford New Holland, retiring after 37 years of service. A Free and Accepted Mason, he was a member of Ephrata Lodge #665. In earlier years he was a member of Paradise-Leaman Place Fire Company where he served as secretary and a member of Lafayette Fire Company where he served as treasurer. He also volunteered with East Lampeter Township Ambulance Association. He enjoyed flowers and his 2 grand-dogs Cayenne and Lily. While living at Landis Homes, Charlie enjoyed working in the woodshop. Surviving him is a son, Daryl J. Lefever of Lititz; 3 grandchildren, Sean J. husband of Gloria Lefever, Randi D. Hines, Matthew C. Hines; 2 sisters, Georgia wife of Sam Martin, Louise wife of Earl Metzler; and a brother, Paul E. Lefever. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Deborah L. Hines. Funeral services will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Strasburg, 101 South Decatur Street, Strasburg, PA on Thursday, December 7, 2023 at 11:00AM. Therefore, whoever believes in Him will live even if he dies (John 11:25). Our family is suffering the earthly loss of our beloved mother, grandma, sister. But we take joy and comfort in knowing that she is home in Heaven with her Savior. Thelma R. Homsher, age 74, of Kinzers, PA, passed away at her home on Monday, November 20, 2023. She was reunited in heaven with her husband Frederick J. Homsher who passed away on April 4, 2021. She was born in Ephrata, daughter of the late B. Wilmer & Jennie Horning Martin. She was an active member of Calvary Monument Bible Church of Paradise, where she was involved with the children's ministry, AWANA, and junior church. Along with her late husband they served together as houseparents at Christ's Home of Paradise. She worked for W. L. Zimmerman & Sons of Intercourse. She enjoyed gardening, puzzles, and reading. JoAnne Jumper, age 64 of Lancaster, PA, entered into the arms of her Heavenly Father on Friday, November 3, 2023 at the Mt. Joy Hospice Center. She was the wife of Albert "Ray" Jumper for 42 years on May 16th. She was born in Drexel Hill, PA, daughter of the late Paul James Jr. & Jean Rogers McAllister. She attended Gateway Church of Parkesburg. She was known for her cooking, hospitality, and always being ready to serve an event with her church family. She was a core member of planting Elk Creek Church, which later became part of Gateway Church, Oxford Campus. In the past she worked at Kitchen Kettle Village for over 20 years, Ledger Newspaper, Dutchway Farm Market and driving her Stoltzfus Structure guys. Her favorite job of all was being Nana. She graduated from Coatesville High School class of 1977. She enjoyed cooking, her family, and sports especially the Phillies, Eagles and NHRA. Surviving besides her husband are 3 children: Albert Ray Jr. husband of Angela Salada Jumper of Oxford, Christopher Paul Jumper of Gap, Christen Mae Adomako-Kufour partner of Clifford E. Wilson of Lancaster, 8 grandchildren: Emilee Rose, Cliff Jr. , Nyairra, Isaiah, Naadu, Elias, Allianna and Willow Mae, 3 siblings: Paul III husband of Janet McAllister, Roger husband of Bridget McAllister and her twin sister Beth wife of Larry "Bud" Welsch. She was an adopted mom to many over the years, loved them like her own with no questions asked, always ready to give when there was a need. Her legacy will go on through many of the lives she has touched especially her many bonus children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews that called her Aunt Jo, JoJo and Grammy Jo, and Nana. A graveside service will take place from the Sadsbury Friends Burial Grounds, 1089 Simmontown Road, Gap, PA, on Tuesday, November 14th at 1 p. m. with Pastor Scott Feather officiating. Alvin M. Zook, age 84 of Lancaster, peacefully passed into the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, November 5, 2023. He was surrounded by his loving wife and family. He was the husband of Millie Moyer Zook with whom he was happily married for 65 years. Born in Honey Brook, he was the son of the late M. Simon and Elsie Stoltzfus Zook. He was a faithful member of Sandy Hill Community Church. Alvin owned and operated Compass Quarries, Alvin Zook Trucking, and A & M Brokerage. He was a private pilot and a member of the Buck Run Hunting Camp. In his free time he enjoyed motorcycling, going to his grandchildren's various activities, NASCAR, listening to Southern Gospel music, and a good meal. Surviving besides his wife Millie are 2 children; Douglas, husband of Deanna Zook of Lovell, WY, and Connie, wife of Paul Leininger of East Earl, 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 2 siblings; Mary Ann, wife of Terry Stuckey of Goshen, IN, and Sally, wife of Larry Martin of New Holland. He was preceded in death by a son, Dwayne Zook, late husband of Deb, wife of Joe Weisbecker of Bainbridge, and 2 brothers, Gilbert and Harold Zook. A celebration of life service will take place at Sandy Hill Community Church, 420 S. Sandy Hill Road, Coatesville, on Friday, November 10th at 11 a. m. with Pastor Amos Stoltzfus officiating. She was a member of Millwood Mennonite Church of Gap, where she was involved with the sewing circle, greeter and custodian. In the past she was a member of Andrews Bridge & Newlinville Mennonite Church. In the past she had worked at Harrison House of Christiana in various positions. She enjoyed crocheting, flowers, gardening and playing games.
