Our beloved Manuel "Manny" Francis joined the love of his life, Elvie, in heaven on Friday, Sept 8, 2023. He was heartbroken when Elvie passed away on May 7, 2023, as they were planning their 50th Wedding Anniversary in October. Manny was born on June 3, 1943 to Carmella and Manuel Francis in Jamaica, New York. He was raised with the love and care of close family and the cherished Gallo Family. Manny was a patriot at heart and enlisted to the US Air Force after high school. He quickly developed an affinity towards aviation electronics, which led to his advancement to Tech Sergeant in his 21 year USAF career, then to his similar role in his 25 years at Honeywell. Manny said his core was being a Veteran, however, his true passion was his beloved Elvie. Manny met Elvie in England, while he was stationed there and while Elvie was in nursing school. They were married on October 29, 1973 and will celebrate their 50th Anniversary in heaven together. Manny had an incredible zest for life and loved to gather family, sing and dance. He truly embodied the "dance like nobody's watching" life. . . however, he wanted everyone to watch! He lived to see his Elvie's big bright smile and loved to get Elvie, his family and friends laughing and dancing. In Manny and Elvie's retirement chapter of life, they took great pleasure in their many travels on cruises to Alaska, Mexico, Panama Canal, as well as their favorite resort spots in Palm Springs, Las Vegas and Sedona Manny is survived by his daughter Elaine; his sons Peter, Raymond, Brian and Kevin; his eleven grandchildren: Elysia, Joseph, Joshua, Chris, Ryan, Jay, Shaunice, Nathan, Troy, Maisara, Rasheed; Sister: Rita; Cousins: Jim, Jeff, Joanne, Dot, Linda; along with other extended family and many caring friends. Manny was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elvie, his mother and father, Carmella Lirio and Manuel Francis, his sister, Linda, his brother, Billy, his granddaughter Mahira Francis and extended family. The funeral service for Manny will be presided by his cousin, Deacon Jeff Penta, at Phoenix Memorial Park and Mortuary, 200 West Beardsley Road, Phoenix, AZ 85027, on Saturday, September 16, 2023. Visitation will begin at 9:00am, followed by service at 10:00am, then lunch reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to be made in Manny's honor, to The Alzheimer's Association: www. alz. org

Janet Howerton

Age - 90

December 9, 2023

Janet Altheria Howerton, our beloved mother and grandmother, at age 90, has gone home to her heavenly father. She passed away after a valiant six-year battle with dementia on December 3, 2023. She was preceded in death by her father, John Alexander Stuart, mother Polly Dicy (Penrod) Easley, stepfather George Raymond "Pete" Easley, sister Norma Constance "Connie" Stratton, brother Norvel Dean Stuart and her cherished son Randy Stuart Pinson. Janet was born in Lakeside, AZ. on May 28, 1933. She lived in the White Mountains on a homestead until she was eight years old. In 1942, her family moved to Phoenix where she lived for the remainder of her life. Throughout her life, Janet had many hobbies and passions. She loved to dance (square dance and ballroom dance), travel, ride horses, bowl, read, do puzzles, play cards (Uno, Phase 10, Gin Rummy) and Dominos. In 1995 after 25 years, she retired from Motorola. For the next two years, she took trips to many places in the U. S. that she wanted to visit. When her mother had a stroke in 1997, she put her life on hold and spent the next two and a half years caring for her in her home. It was no easy task as she was partially paralyzed and could speak very little. Her love and selflessness was an inspiration to those she loved. When her mother passed away in 2000, Janet was able to go back to enjoying her retirement. She returned to taking trips and spending every summer at her cabin in the White Mountains, which she loved. Janet was also a savvy business woman. In 1975, at the age of 42, with help from her mother and stepfather, she acquired her first rental property. She was able to turn that first home into a portfolio of five homes. She worked tirelessly to maintain the properties and keep them rented. As a single mother with a fulltime job and a two-year old, this was a lot of work. But she persevered and would say, "Not too bad for an old broad". Janet made an impact in many lives through her generous and caring nature. She loved, and was loved by many. Janet is survived by her son, John Dean (Kelly) Pinson, daughters Nola Eileen (Louie) Giddings and Yvette Polly (Matthew) Rushford, two grandsons, six granddaughters and ten great grandkids. A visitation will be held on Friday, December 15, 2023 at 11AM at Greenwood Memory Lawn Mortuary, 719 N. 27th Avenue, Phoenix, AZ. 85009. Her funeral will be at noon with committal to follow.Show more

Werner Fredrick Gommeringer, 88, passed away on November 28, 2023 in Phoenix, Arizona. He was born on January 11, 1935, in Viking, Alberta, Canada. Werner was a motivator and a people person, always positive; with a sense of humor that served him well throughout his life. Werner grew up working hard on the family farm, where they made hay, raised and sold pigs, cattle, and cream. As a young man, he left the farm and ventured into the oil fields, facing treacherous sub-zero temperatures and locating oil fields by night, often driving over frozen lakes. Afterward, he tested his sales skills in real estate until he and his wife, Erna, discovered Amway through a good friend. This opportunity was a natural fit for Werner, a hard-working, people-loving salesman. Together, Werner and Erna climbed the ranks of the Amway Corporation, reaching the top 1% and earning numerous awards and trips along the way. They retired in 1990. Once retired, Werner enjoyed exploring both the United States and Canada with his beloved wife, Erna in their motor home. They cherished their time together, making memories and embracing new experiences. When home, they loved spending time with their 3 young grandchildren. Werner is survived by his daughter, Dana, and her husband, Dale; son, Duane; grandchildren: Cassie (Greg) Petriekis, Danielle (David) Mesri, and Josh Cavan; great-grandsons: Jameson Petriekis, Lawson Petriekis, Walker Petriekis, and Jack Mesri; brother, Bernard Gommeringer; sisters: Joan Arychuk, Tilda Dafoe, and Rose Marie Jordan, as well as numerous nephews and nieces. Age - 57

Raymond Churchwell, aged 57, beloved husband to Jeanine for 32, devoted father to Nicole, Sarah, and Aaron, grandfather to Micheal, Angel, Steve, Memo, and Jason, son of Colleen, and brother to Alan and William, departed from us on December 1st, 2023, leaving behind a legacy woven with love, dedication, and multifaceted passions. Known fondly as "Scout Master Churchwell" by scouts and lovingly dubbed "Uncle Grandpa" by his nieces. Ray's life was an ode to problem-solving, sharing his knowledge, and the great outdoors. His favorite vacations were spent in the wild, hunting, fishing, shooting and camping, his wife lovingly called him a "Heavily armed hiker" as there were many times he would come back from a hunting trip empty handed. He also loved vacations where he could lay on the beach reading books and drinking a beer. A proud engineer at Boeing, he humorously claimed to "break airplanes for a living," but his impact was far-reaching, especially evident in his mentoring of young engineers, fostering inspiration in STEM through initiatives like FIRST Robotics. Ray graduated with his Masters Degree in May 2020. He had deep enthusiasm for 3D printing and additive manufacturing, a passion that fueled his publications and teaching endeavors. Ray's unwavering dedication extended to his volunteer work as a Range Safety Officer, involvement in children's ministry, and volunteering with the scouts, embodying the essence of safety, mentorship, and community service. His impact reverberated through stories shared by those he influenced - his unconditional love and the profound care he showed for the safety and success of others. Ray's departure leaves a void, yet his memory remains a guiding light, inspiring all to cherish family, embrace passions, and selflessly give back to their communities. Memorial services will be held at 3pm on Friday January 5th, 2024, at CCV (Christ's Church of the Valley) midtown campus - 2005 E Indian School Rd, Phoenix, AZ, 85016Memorial donations, in lieu of flowers may be made to the Arcadia Titian's First Robotics Team 3187 at Arcadia Highschool.
