Thomas Mudry

Thomas Mudry

Age - 73

November 23, 2023

Thomas J. Mudry, beloved husband of Karen and loving father to Wendy, Mary, Melanie and Matthew, died peacefully Sunday 19 November at the age of 73 with family at his side. Thomas was born in Hartford, CT on June 8, 1950, the oldest of John and Agnes Mudry's three children. In his youth he attended St. Cyril and Methodius School in Hartford, where his family went to worship every Sunday. During this time, he cultivated a passion for sports and the arts, honing his talents as a musician on the accordion, guitar and trumpet. Thomas was a natural, playing every instrument he picked up effortlessly. When he wasn't playing music, he was playing sports. An All-State first baseman and team MVP of the baseball team at Hartford High School, Thomas was scouted by the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees before eventually enlisting with the US Army National Guard in the early 1970s. After serving, he enrolled at University of Hartford where he studied business. With his resolute work ethic, Thomas would build a successful career as an award-winning sales manager in the automotive industry for forty years. In 1975, he met Karen Knudsen of Hartford. It was the beginning of a nearly fifty-year romance. They were married on August 21, 1976 at St. Joseph's Cathedral in Hartford and eventually settled in Bristol, CT to start a family. Thomas adored his four children, building a family foundation with faith, hope and tireless devotion. He worked multiple jobs to provide his children with a Catholic education and was an eager participant in every aspect of their lives, rarely missing a practice, game or school event. When it came to sports, Thomas was a lifelong fan of the Hartford Whalers and New York Yankees. . . and as a grandfather ultimately became a newfound fan of the New York Giants and New Jersey Devils, passionate rooting interests he shared with his grandchildren. His greatest sports moments were spent in hockey rinks, soccer fields and baseball fields across Connecticut, watching his beloved grandchildren Breac and Roan play the games he loved so much. Thomas spent countless mornings in the backyard pitching to Breac and Roan, teaching them baseball - the game he once played so well. Thomas loved taking long, scenic drives to undiscovered places. His weekend trips to the beach provided one of his favorite things in life - a warm, ocean breeze. He determinedly collected coins and antiques, and enjoyed selling those treasures at markets throughout the state. When it came to entertainment, he was both a western and horror film enthusiast. When it came to cuisine, he loved a good hot dog and a great slice of pizza. Thomas was sarcastic and funny; kind to all he knew; courageous and strong; considerate and thoughtful to friends in need. It was the simple, little things in life that made him genuinely happy. He is predeceased by his parents John and Agnes and brother Paul. Thomas is survived by his adoring wife Karen, his daughter Mary and her husband Andrew Tennant of Fairfield, CT, his daughter Wendy and her husband Kevin Brown of Sandy Hook, CT, his daughter Melanie and her husband Keith Varian of Fairfield, CT, and his son Matthew of Plainville, CT; his brother John and his wife Julie of East Hartford, CT; and his beloved grandchildren Breac, Roan, Kaylee, Keegan, Max and Maeve. Thomas's life will be celebrated at a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, November 24 at 11:30 am at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 120 Church Avenue, Forestville, CT.
