Mahlon "Jake" M. Messick, 94, of the Masonic Village, and formerly of Middletown, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2019, in the home with his wife by his side. Born in Elizabethtown on December 20, 1924, he was the son of the late Jacob and Sarah A. Long Messick. Jake was a local dairy and beef cattle farmer. He was a member of the Swatara Hill Church of the Brethren, Middletown, where he led the Youth Group for many years. Jake was also a member of Brownstone Lodge #666, F&AM, Hershey, and the Zembo Shrine and Tall Cedars Forest #43 both of Harrisburg. Jake loved farming and his animals. He is survived by his loving wife, Helen Reesor Messick; one sister, Mildred M. Risser of Summerville, SC; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jake was preceded in death by seven brothers, Marvin M., Miller M., Melvin M., Milford M., Marlin M., Merville M., and Mylin M.; and four sisters, Marie Myers, Mattalie Dagen, Margaret Zell and Miriam Aldinger. Graveside service will be held Monday, April 29, 2019, at 3:00 PM in the Ebenezer Cemetery, Middletown, with Pastor William W. Wink, his pastor, officiating.
