Born February 9, 1926, Mae Stockdale Staton, 97, widow of Harold Clay Staton, passed away peacefully Saturday evening, September 9, 2023. She was the daughter of Lane and Mary Lee Stockdale. Mae was preceded in death by her parents, Lane and Mary Lee Stockdale, her sisters, Hazel Larison (Harry), Ruby Trimble (Russ), Allene Griffin (Junior), Mary Sue Stockdale and a brother, Stanley Stockdale, Sr. (Lucy). She is survived by daughters Betty Sue Staton and Cathy Staton Calvert (Bill) of Mt Sterling, one grandson David Clay Calvert (Anjuli) and great grandchildren Quinn Mae Calvert and William James Calvert (Will) of Louisville. Mae was a longtime member of the First Church of God, an artist and a former member of the Bluegrass Cake Decorating Club in Lexington. Visitation will be at the First Church of God, in Mt Sterling, from 11:00 a. m. until 1:00 pm. with funeral at 1:00 p. m. on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, with Pastor David Dooley officiating. No graveside committal service. Pallbearers will be Douglas Sallie, Ronnie Stockdale, Stanley Stockdale Jr. , David Calvert, Bill Calvert and Tom Martin. In lieu of flowers, you may donate to the Mt Sterling First Church of God Youth Building Fund. Mildred Spencer Colliver, 88, of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky passed away peacefully, Tuesday morning, December 5, 2023, at University of Kentucky Medical Center. She was born in Frenchburg, Kentucky on May 7, 1935, to the late Leonard and Nancy Back Spencer. Mildred was a lifelong resident of Kentucky, a former Belk employee and a wonderful homemaker for her family. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. David "Peanut" Davis, beloved husband, father, grandfather, devoted brother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2023, at Life Care Center, Morehead Kentucky. He was born on June 23, 1956, in Grundy, VA, to the late Clyde and Avie Shortridge Davis. David's unwavering dedication to his craft began in the construction industry, where he excelled as a Guardrail & Fencing expert. Known for his meticulous attention to detail, and strong work ethic, David took pride in his work, ensuring the safety and security of countless communities throughout his career. David also enjoyed many hobbies, including mushroom hunting, fishing, working and spending time as a soundman in a band. David's remarkable journey touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. With heavy hearts, we celebrate the extraordinary life of a kind-hearted soul who left an indelible mark on the world around him. Verna Ruth Mack Rountree, 89, known affectionately as "Nanny" to many, was called to her heavenly home on Saturday, November 18, 2023. She has finally had her long-awaited reunion with her husband, Jack Rountree, and son, Larry Rountree, whom she loved and longed for daily. Born on August 7, 1934, in Pleasant View, Kentucky to the late Stuart "Toots" & Pauline "Polly" Foley Mack, Verna was one of five children. She spent her childhood and youth in Pleasant View among her large extended family, where she spent many days making fond memories with cousins who were as close as sisters. After graduating high school at the young age of 16, Verna later married her childhood sweetheart, Jack Rountree, and together they moved to Mt. Sterling, KY, to begin their family. After raising her three children, Verna worked for several years as a bookkeeper for Warren Lumber Company, and then as the secretary of the Mt. Sterling First Church of God. Her impeccable work ethic and attention to detail made her an invaluable member of the team, earning the respect and admiration of her colleagues. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Verna actively participated in the community and was a faithful servant of her Lord Jesus Christ. She was a devoted member of the First Church of God, where she found immense joy and comfort. Verna lovingly served as a member of the Women of the Church of God, selflessly supporting various charitable initiatives, and fostering a close community of faith. She also enjoyed worship and various outings with her many friends in the Heritage Group. Her unwavering devotion to her church and fellow members will always be remembered. In her spare time, Verna had a passion for reading and eagerly delved into countless novels, expanding her horizons through the power of storytelling. She also enjoyed the camaraderie of bowling, relishing in the friendly competition and moments shared with friends. Verna was an avid supporter of UK basketball, cheering on her Wildcats with enthusiasm and loyalty. It brought her great joy to see her family gathered together to watch the game, and she reveled in the triumphs and shared heartache of her beloved Wildcats. Win or lose, she remained a faithful fan. Verna's greatest love was her large, close-knit, loving family who meant the world to her. She is survived by her children Teresa (Mike) Hargis and Ray Rountree; her daughter-in-law Sandy Rountree Combs; her grandchildren Kim Hall, Tracy (Brad) Hays, Ben (Julia) Hargis, Maria Clark, Brandon Rountree, Hannah (Cody) Steele and Jordan (Jacinta) Rountree; her great grandchildren Tyson (Hannah) Pitts, Ryan, Grant and Luke Hays, Addison, Eli and Analee Hargis, Kaiden Rankin, Addison Clark, Dane, Drake, Damien and Halle Rountree, Madelyn and Frazier Steele, and Jaxon, Jocelyn and Jonah Rountree; her great-great grandchildren Everly, Lettie and Jack Pitts; her brother Tootie (Sharon) Mack; her sister Rhonda (Gary) Foley; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her longtime friend, Louise Shoemaker, whom she loved dearly. Kathleen Marilyn Garrett, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, peacefully passed away on November 10, 2023, at her residence in Jeffersonville, KY. Born on July 10, 1949, in Detroit, MI, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Sherley (Crook) Drys. Kathleen was a woman of strength and compassion, who touched the lives of all who had the pleasure of knowing her. With a warm smile and gentle demeanor, she created a comforting presence that will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved her. Throughout her career in management, particularly in the retail industry, Kathleen brought her strong work ethic and dedication to her position at JoAnn Fabrics. She was highly regarded by her colleagues and cherished the friendships she made along the way. Besides her professional achievements, Kathleen found her greatest joy in her family. She was a devoted wife to her loving husband Joseph Garrett III and a caring mother to her son Thomas Garrett (Heather) of Springboro, Ohio and daughter Michelle Garrett of Tuscan Arizona. Kathleen was also blessed with the presence of her adoring grandchildren, Kyle Garrett and Brielle Garrett, who brought immeasurable joy to her life. Yvonne "Paige" Pendleton, 86, of Mt. Sterling, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, with her family at her side. She was born on March 3, 1937 in Morehead Kentucky to the late Ora Roland and Sarah Elizabeth Black Eldridge. Paige was a lifelong resident of Kentucky, of the Christian faith and member of Rolling Hills Church of Christ, Mt. Sterling. She was proud owner of Eldridge's Bar-B-Q and Sugar Shack. Paige is survived by her beloved husband of sixty-eight years, Kenneth Ray Pendleton; three children, Robert Pendleton (Lisa) of Flemingsburg, Joan Humble (Gary) of Mt. Sterling and Charles Pendleton (Jennifer) of Mt. Carolyn Held May, Died November 6, 2023 at the age of 100 years and 364 days. She was born in Hastings, NE to Albert Anthony Held and Minnie Pratt Held. She grew up in Lincoln and was a graduate of the University of Nebraska where she was a member of Alpha Phi Sorority. It was at the University of Nebraska where she met the love of her life, Jack May, the Kentucky boy sent to engineering school by his rich Uncle Sam. They were married June 8, 1944 in Dothan, AL just before Jack was shipped overseas. After the war they made their home in Mt. Sterling where they raised two children. She was the oldest member of the First Presbyterian Church, worked 18 years at Montgomery Bank, taught Sunday School, was a Brownie Leader, Past President of the Church Women's Club, Volunteered at the Post Clinic and the Mary Chiles Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of two bridge clubs and played regularly until the age of 97 when her eyesight prevented it. She is survived by a daughter, Nancy May (Terry McVey), Lexington and Bert (Timi) May, Mt. Sterling, two nephews Dr. Charles (Jean) Held, Reno, NV, Craig (Tina) Held, Boulder, CO and Grasse, France and step grandchildren Tanner(Madison) McVey and Taylor McVey (Ehren Smith) great grandchild Griffin McVey. James Malcom Baxter, 75, of Mt. Sterling passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, November 2, 2023 with his family by his side. James was born in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky on July 4, 1948 to the late Malcom and Marjorie Proffitt Baxter. James treasured his family and friends and lived his life to the fullest. He never missed anything. He was a character who enjoyed his skills in harassing, antagonizing and annoying family and friends. He enjoyed reminiscing and telling stories with a dynamic delivery who could bring stories to life. He loved hanging out with his friends and family in his garage while working on cars and motorcycles. He enjoyed hitting the roads on his custom built 1954 Harley panhead motorcycle and found peace and solitude on those journeys. After his baptism, he experienced the greatest peace he'd ever known, one he says he'd unknowingly craved his entire life. Left to cherish his memory are his loving daughter, Sherrie Colliver, and son-in-law, Mike Colliver of Mt. Sterling, his daughter Tracy Gregory of Mt. Sterling, his brother Woody Baxter and sister-in-law Nancy Baxter of Mt. Sterling, his brother Bobby Baxter of Silver Springs, Florida, his sister Lynn Greene and brother-in-law G. C. Greene of Jeffersonville, his sister Sissy Trimble and brother-in-law Bob Trimble of Jeffersonville, his grandson Nick Thorne (Morgan Miles) of Mt. Sterling, granddaughters, Hannah Stokes (Michael) of Nicholasville, Lora Goodan (Jessie) of Paris, Olivia Harris (Evander) of Lexington, Shelby Thorne of Lexington, and Leah Thorne of Mt. He will be fondly remembered by his nephew Scottie Centers (Margina) of Means, who brought much joy into James' life. Mabel June Marye, a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2023, at St. Joseph Mt. Sterling Hospital. Born on March 28, 1929, in Corbin, Kentucky, to the late Luther and Bessie Scott, Mabel lived a life filled with love, compassion, and dedication. Mabel had been a resident of Montgomery County since 1968. She was of the Episcopal faith, a graduate of Henry Clay High School, Lexington, Kentucky and attended the University of Kentucky where she was a member of the Home Economics Club. In her early years she was also a service assistant at the General Telephone Company. As a homemaker, she poured her heart and soul into creating a warm and loving home for her family. She extended her time and talents with her involvement in the Little Theater Group and enjoyed making costumes and sewing. She loved visiting the beaches of North Carolina and was once on the Price is Right television show. Mabel's love and dedication to her family and friends knew no bounds and left an indelible impact on their lives. Mabel's memory will be forever cherished and kept alive by her surviving relatives; her children, Edward "Teddy" Marye III of Owingsville and Taylor Marye-Baker (Marcus) of Washington; grandson, Courtney Marye; Her sister, Joanne Everman of South Carolina; brother-in-law, Davis Marye (Glennis) of Bedford; special friend, Sally Purvis of Mt.
