John Hosea Poole of Columbia, SC, passed away on December 1, 2023, at the age of 96. He was born in Banks County, GA, to Hosea Simon Poole and Minnie Bell Lawrence Poole. He was affectionately known as "Pop" or "Uncle John. " He is survived by his son Ryan (Anita); grandchildren Blake (Katy) of Columbia, Haley of Easley, Aaron (Tobi), and Jenna all of Columbia; and great-grandson Camden. He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley, son Rick and grandson Nicholas. John retired from the military and civil service after a long and successful career where he earned many commendations. He was a talented craftsman who could do just about anything. He was the first one to get a call when someone needed help and he was always willing to help no matter the task. After retirement, he took to farming. He was often teased about his crooked rows and he would chuckle and say he could get more corn per acre this way. He loved family and preparing meals with food straight from his garden; talking Gamecock sports with his sons; playing Santa for his grandchildren and neighbors; and reading his Bible. He was an avid fisherman and loved a good fish fry with friends and family. For many years, he grew sugar cane and made cane syrup which he also loved to share. He had so many passages marked in his Bible. There was a clear theme of service, obedience, humility and love in the verses he underlined. Pop was a humble, kind man and leaves us a wonderful example of what it means to be a servant of the Lord. He will be greatly missed! A private service for immediate family will be held at Forest Lake Presbyterian Church, Columbia SC.Show more

Randall Frierson

Age - 52

December 6, 2023

Randall William Frierson (52), known to all as Randy, was born on April 22nd, 1971 in Charleston, SC and passed away on Saturday December 2nd, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Tracy Brannon Frierson; daughters, Sydni Frierson Copeland (Corey) and Cassidy Blythe Frierson; son, Luke William Frierson; grandsons, Gunnarr Bjorn Copeland and Houston Edmund Copeland; mother, Marjorie Schachte Frierson; sister, Lynne Frierson Thomas; mother-in-law, Carol Hinson Brannon; sister-in-law, Letty Madrid Frierson (Sam III), as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was predeceased by his son, Joshua Gunnar Frierson; father, SLED Lt. Sam H. Frierson Jr. ; sister, Theresa Frierson Corbin; brother, Sam H. Frierson III; grandparents, Charleston City Police CAPT Sam H. Sr. and Lottie F. Frierson and William L. and Mary F. Schachte of Charleston, SC; and brother-in-law, Michael L. Thomas. When Randy was a year old, his family relocated to Lexington, SC where he was educated in Lexington District 1 Schools and Kings Academy, Saluda, SC and played football and baseball in Lexington League programs. Through both school and sports, Randy forged lifelong friendships that he cherished dearly. In 1990, he married his high school sweetheart, Tracy. He worked as a diesel mechanic at V. B. Hook & Co. Inc. for nearly 20 years, and more recently as an auto technician at Jiffy Lube, Inc. , both located in West Columbia. He took great pride in his work and always enjoyed being in a position to help people. Randy was a devoted husband of 33 years to the love of his life and a loving father and grandfather to his children and grandsons. He loved to brag about his children and grandchildren to any and all who would hear him- and with his booming voice it was near impossible for him to go unheard. Always effortlessly the loudest in the room, he was most often heard cracking jokes, carrying a tune, or answering the phone with a cheerful, "Yello?" Randy was known for his unrivaled, encyclopedic knowledge of music and sports, especially when it came to classic rock/metal and his beloved Carolina Gamecocks. A loyal fan to his core, he often entertained his family and friends during Carolina football games with a spot-on impression of longtime, expressive game caller, Todd Ellis. He loved listening to sports talk radio and could often be found on the back porch with the radio on while he worked on the crossword in the newspaper. His way with words was a lesser known fact about him, but those closest to him knew he was a beautiful writer and published poet. As a sentimental soul with a big heart that loved others so freely and widely, he made friends everywhere he went and never met a stranger. There were not many things he disliked, with the exception of heights, and whoever happened to be playing against the Gamecocks that week, no matter which sport. His joyous, fun-loving spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the good fortune to know him. His life will be honored with a funeral Mass at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 2350 Augusta Highway, Lexington, SC 29072 on Saturday, December 9th, 2023 at 12:00 PM.
