Funeral services for Mabel Zeltwanger of Hancock, MN, will be held Monday, July 24, 2023 at 10:00 a. m. the Apostolic Christian Church North in Morris. Visitation will be Sunday from 5 to 7 p. m. at the Apostolic Christian Church North and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Burial will be at the Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery, rural Morris. Mabel Marie Schmidt, daughter of Mike and Anna (Mogler) Schmidt, was born January 13, 1930 in Ottosen, Iowa. Mabel grew up on the family farm in Iowa, where she grew up and attended school. Mabel was baptized in her faith at the Apostolic Christian Church at the age of 21. She was united in marriage to the love of her life, John Zeltwanger on April 3, 1955. The couple made her home in Hancock. Together, they raised cattle, pigs, corn and beans. She was a devoted wife, caring for John in every way that she could until his time here was done. She loved working outside and had the prettiest yard and flowers around. She was meticulous in her work, from her yard to her tidy home to the meals that she cooked, and she was consistent! You could always rely on Mabel to cook the best Thanksgiving stuffing, have candy dishes full of M & M’s and Leman’s mints, and bake the best German chocolate and Angel food cakes. She loved her routine, which included daily conversations with her sister Chrystol and other friends and family members when they were still with us. We are sure she is already making up for lost time with her loved ones in Heaven, and we are very sure she’s thankful she does not have to worry about using that cell phone anymore. As a mom, she passed along a lot of traits and skills, like cooking and baking and taking care of her loved ones, but Connie will tell you that she is most grateful for her mom’s Christian heritage and her work ethic. A distinct memory from Connie is that Mabel was willing to take her swimming at Page Lake anytime, but Mabel was sure to bring peas to shuck and beans to snap while she supervised! Mabel was a very special grandma. She enjoyed watching all of their activities, especially basketball, and cooked lunch for them every day of the school year, as soon as they were in high school and could come over to her place at noon. She also loved to take them shopping, and trust us, you wanted to go shopping with Grandma! Her love grew with each great-grandchild, and they can all share special memories of their great-grandma, including hymn singing and playing games like "hide the thimble. " She also let her great-grandkids add lots of bubbles to her huge bathtub, something she never let her grandkids do! Mabel was the model of steadfast faith. She didn’t always understand God’s reasons for the way things were, but she never questioned his grace and goodness. We are so very grateful for the 93 years Mabel had on this earth (even though she was convinced it was 94. ) She is survived by her daughter: Connie (Steve) Nuest of Morris; three grandchildren: Cory (Shannon) Nuest of Becker, Chad (Kalee) Nuest of Hancock and Ashlee (Claudy) Francois of Hancock; eight great-grandchildren: Courtney (fiancé Kaden DeWall), Danielle and Troy Nuest, Abigail, Jett and Cash Nuest and Lia and Emerson Francois; one brother: Jerry (Judy) Schmidt of West Bend, IA; three brothers-in-law: William Zeltwanger Jr. of Indianapolis, IN, Lyle (Marilyn) Zeltwanger of Valparaiso, IN and Reuben Luthi of Washington, IL and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband: John Zeltwanger; sister: Chrystol Luthi; brother: Ivan Schmidt, many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and extended family. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Apostolic Christian Church Morris North Goodwill Fund or Gideons. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in care of the arrangements for Mabel.

Funeral services for Marla Miller, of Hancock, Minnesota, will be held on Thursday, December 7, 2023, at 10:30 a. m. at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church in Hancock with Reverend Heather E. Klason officiating. A visitation will be on Wednesday, December 6, from 4-7:00 p. m. with a public time of sharing at 7:00 p. m. at Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock. Marla Ann Miller was born on July 20, 1970, in Hettinger, North Dakota, to parents Daryl and Sandy (Dix) Johnson. Marla and her twin sister, Carla, were born premature and were baptized at the hospital. She lived with her family in Lemmon, South Dakota, for a few years until they bought a farm and moved to McIntosh, Minnesota. Marla grew up on the family farm, was confirmed at Mt. Carmel Free Lutheran Church and graduated from Win-E-Mac High School in 1989. After high school, Marla spent the summer in Brazil on an AFLC Team Mission trip and then attended Lutheran Brethren Bible College in Fergus Falls, graduating with a certificate in Biblical Studies in 1990. She began her pre-nursing studies, and it was at this time that she met Julius Miller, while he was attending Lutheran Brethren Seminary in Fergus Falls. They were married on June 12, 1993, and began their married lives in Federal Way, Washington, where Julius served as Pastor at Living Word Lutheran Brethren Church. In 1997, Marla graduated from Bates Technical College in Tacoma, Washington, as an LPN. In 1999, they moved to Hancock, Minnesota, where Julius has served as Pastor of Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church. Marla went on to become an RN, attaining her BSN Degree from Minnesota State University in Moorhead. In her working career, Marla worked in pediatrics, long-term care, public health, school nurse, and was doing Quality Improvement Grant work with St. Francis Health Services of Morris when she was diagnosed with Stage 4 Rectal Cancer in April of 2022. Marla was an active member of Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church, serving with the women’s circle, the library committee, and teaching Sunday school and VBS. She enjoyed cooking and baking, a talent that has been passed down to her daughter, Nadine. She was always willing to play a game with her family, but she was very competitive, no matter what they were playing – cards, trivia, or games – she loved to win! In her earlier years, Marla was involved in 4-H; she loved animals and growing up on the farm. She loved nature, taking in the beautiful landscapes of local trails, the Badlands, and others near and far. She cherished their road trips to see family in some capacity and the fun that they had along the way, including in: Washington, California, South Dakota, and New York City. Most importantly, Marla wanted it known that her greatest joy in life was that of being a mother to Justin and Nadine. She was their biggest supporter. Marla lived her life caring for others, her vocation in Nursing was her calling and a way to be an advocate for everyone that she had the pleasure of knowing over the years. Marla wanted it known that she felt there was so much more she had left to do and that cancer took that away from her. As a very young child, Marla came to faith trusting the Lord and continued to trust in the forgiveness and redemptive power of the suffering, death, and resurrection of Jesus; and although her life was cut short due to cancer, she left entrusting her loved ones and herself to Jesus, and looked forward to healing and heaven. Marla went home to her Savior on Sunday, December 3, 2023. She was 53 years old. Marla was a wife, mom, daughter, granddaughter, cousin, aunt, niece, friend, and patient advocate, and will be deeply missed by those who knew her. Jill Minnesota

Jill Minnesota

Age - 78

February 6, 2023

Jill Hagan Landwehr, age 78, of Hancock, Minnesota, passed away on January 28, 2023. Visitation and celebration of life for Jill Landwehr will be held at 9:30 a. m. at the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Morris, Minnesota. The Memorial Mass will be held at the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Morris, Minnesota, on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at 11:00, a. m. , with Father Todd Scheidner presiding. A luncheon will be served in the church basement following the mass. Jill Hagan Landwehr gently took the hand of Jesus on Saturday, January 28, 2023. Jill was born on April 11, 1944, to wonderful parents, Dr. and Mrs. E. M. Hagan. She grew up in the beautiful town of Oakmont, Pennsylvania with her older brother Jim, whom she always greatly admired, and her younger brother Eddie, her constant companion in all of her childhood adventures. Her beloved springer spaniel was always at her side. It was the perfect life, except that she did not have a horse. In the summer of 1965, she got a job waitressing at a dude ranch in Wisconsin, just to be near horses. That is where she met Jerry. They married on June 17, 1967, after she graduated from Penn State University. They moved to Minnesota to begin their life together. A few years later, Jerry surprised Jill with a horse of her own for Christmas; Mindy turned out to be her horse of a lifetime! While Jerry taught Spanish, Jill stayed home to raise her three children, Jodie, Lisa, and Michael. When Michael started kindergarten, Jill completed her degree in elementary education at the University of Minnesota, Morris, and began her 19-year teaching career in the 5th grade classroom of St. Mary's School. She retired when her first grandchild was born. Jill remained extremely energetic and active after retirement. She loved the outdoor life and spent her days riding horses, biking, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, and taking her dog for walks. Even the bleak, cold Minnesota winters did not deter Jill. She loved to cross-country ski, but if the snow was too deep for that, she strapped on her snow shoes. Even in her seventies, she racked up the miles in her running shoes, training for marathon relays and local 5K's. Jill always put others before herself and showed an intense interest in all of their activities. She had a special gift for making everyone else feel special by the way she treated them. Instead of a glass half-full, her glass was always overflowing, and she was sharing it with others. Her children will always remember her as the best mom ever. Jodie and Lisa inherited her passion for horses. Their favorite memories were of September Saturdays spent galloping through the harvested fields, then coming home to pick apples and make a pie together. Michael's favorite memories were of getting off the bus after morning kindergarten to spend a wonderful afternoon just with Mom. They would hike in the cow pasture to have a picnic lunch by the old cottonwood tree by the lake, curl up in the chair to read amazing books, and even play catch with the football. Jill never lost her child-like sense of wonder, which made her an amazing Grandma. Her first grandchild, Julie, said it best in this letter she wrote to Gram. "You always told me you loved me, but that wasn't how I knew. It was the way that you spent weeks preparing for our visits. It was how you read me Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer every Christmas Eve. It was the sweet rolls, Christmas cookies, and ham. It was campouts in the living room and sneaking into the kitchen for midnight snacks. It was teddy bear picnics. It was those little notes you wrote in every single book you ever gave me. It was always taking the smallest piece of cake, or the burnt toast, or even going without entirely, so that someone else could have the best. Gram, you are the reason I know how to spot Orion and the Big Dipper. You are the reason I know how to swim. You are the reason I can teach grammar to my fifth graders. You are the reason I will plant daisies and marigolds in my yard someday. You are the reason I cherish my family. You are the reason I know that it is important to be kind, to be strong, to be a lady. You are the reason I know that the easy route is not an option. You are the reason I know that without God's grace, we are nothing. And Gram, you are the reason I know what it's like to care about someone with Alzheimer's. " Jill is preceded in death by her parents and two sisters-in-law, Cathy Hagan and Sherry Hagan. She is survived by her husband, Jerry, of Morris, Minnesota; two daughters, Jodie (Cary) Landwehr of Rapid City, South Dakota, and Lisa (Clayton) Phipps of Brusett, Montana, and a son, Michael (Sharon) Landwehr of Fort Dodge, Iowa, and six grandchildren, Julie, Abby, Isaac, Danny, Hannah, and Luke; two brothers, Jim (Dodie) Hagan of Export, Pennsylvania, and Eddie Hagan of Lonetree, Colorado; five nieces and nephews, Jeff, Julie, Ken, Matt, and Sally Hagan, and their families. Should friends desire, memorials can be made to the Alzheimer's Association. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness . . . 2 Timothy 4:7-8 9:30 a. m. Saturday February 11, 2023 Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary 207 E 3rd.
