Henry Green Bell, Jr. passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 18, 2024, at the age of 80 in Savannah, GA. He was born on May 15, 1943, in Fort Riley, Kansas, to the late Henry Green Bell, Sr. and Marjorie Brewer Bell. His paternal grandparents were Leslie V. Bell and Madie Bell of Halcyondale, GA, and his maternal grandmother was Maude Davis Brewer Dixon of Patterson, GA. Henry was preceded in death by his companion, Barbara Riley. He is survived by his daughter Angela Williams (Phil) of Marietta, GA, his sons Jason Bell of Cumming, GA, and Steven Bell (Tasha) of Marietta, GA, as well as his brother Leslie Bell (Janis) of Statesboro, GA, and sister Julie Bell Mangum of Buford, GA. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Ashley, Jacob, Andrew, and Ethan, and two greatgrandchildren: Isabel and Logan. Extended family includes Raymond Davis (Donna), Steve Davis (Beth), Patsy Strickland and their families. Henry graduated from Ribault High School in Jacksonville, FL. He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from Georgia Southern University and his Master’s Degree from the University of Georgia. Henry dedicated many years to teaching in high school and was an avid football fan. A private graveside remembrance will be held by the family at Eastside Cemetery in Statesboro, GA. on Saturday, Feb. 24th at 2pm, where he will be laid to rest beside his parents and maternal grandmother. Senior Master Sergeant Samuel D. Owens, Jr., USAF, Retired, passed away on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Memorial Medical Center in Savannah after a brief illness. Mr. Owens was born in Winston Salem, North Carolina and raised in Metter, Georgia. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force after high school. While on active duty, Sam earned a bachelor’s degree in business management from Park College. Mr. Owens was a retired veteran of the United States Air Force and Georgia Air National Guard having honorably served his country with over 20 years of service and achieving the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. Sam was a dedicated servant, known for his roles as Director of Postal Services at GA Southern University from 1978-1995 and a member of the Kiwanis Club of Statesboro, GA, serving as its president in 1989. Sam also owned and operated Lanier’s Meat Processing Plant, a family run business in Metter, from 1995 until his retirement. Sam’s legacy of dedication, service and love will live on in the hearts of all that knew him. He is preceded in death by his parents D.C. and Willa Lanier, Samuel Owens Sr., Carl Lanier (brother), Diana Crosby (sister), Harold Crosby (brother-in-law), and Carol Owens (sister). Survived by his son Samuel Owens III (Marie), daughters Sara Owens (Grant Beeson), Lynn Owens and long time companion Diane Armacost. Grandchildren: Jennel (Logan), Jolo (Aina), Jamie (Jim), Faye and Luis. Great grandchildren: Julia, Jia and Anaiah. The visitation and funeral service will be held on Friday, February 23, 2024 at Anchor Worship Center in Metter, GA. Visitation is 12 – 1pm with the funeral hour starting after 1pm. Interment will be at Rosemary Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with full military honors. Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, of Metter is in charge of the arrangements.
