Luis Rafael Velasco went into an eternal rest on September 26th at the age of 91 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on 6/21/1932 in Caracas, Venezuela by his parent's Jose R. Velasco and Blanca De Armas de Velasco. He is preceded in death by his parents as well as his brother William, son Horacio and grandson Daniel. His spirit is carried on by his wife Angelica; by his brothers Joe, Richard and John; by his sister Nancy; and by his children Luis, Rosario, Gonzalo, Ana, Alexander and John. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Upon receiving a Civil Engineering degree from Tulane, Luis returned to Venezuela and honed his skills in the oilfield sector. After receiving his Master of Science in Naval Architecture from U. C. Berkeley, Luis dedicated himself to maritime vessel design and operations. He was a loving, family man who had the good fortune to be able to enjoy his life on his own terms. The funeral service will be held at Noon on Saturday, October 21rst at Our Lady of Guadalupe. San Antonio native Lisa Ann Moody tragically passed away from a sudden heart attack December 7, 2023, at the age of 53. She was born April 13, 1970, to Louise Mae Routon Colby and Owen Obra Moody Jr. Lisa cherished her children, adored her only grandchild Eliana, enjoyed playing bingo, the outdoors and camping. You could always find her with her headphones on and listening to old country or watching Urban Cowboy. Her favorites were tacos and Big Red. Lisa was a gentle and kind person. "Jennifer Blue Cox, aged 53, passed away surrounded by family on December 2, 2023, after a short, critical illness. Jennifer is survived by her children, Ash Miller (Steph) and Kaitlin Miller (Jacob); her parents, Elisa Cox and Jimmy Cox; her siblings, Jamin Cox (Ashley) and Danny Cox (Kris); her nieces, Emma Cox and Gracie Cox; and her nephews, Jacob Cox and Dylan Cox. She is predeceased by her grandparents, Doyen Cox, Sissy Cox, Edward Whitney, and Lydia Whitney. She was born in Lafayette, LA, on August 24, 1970, and moved to Texas with her family at age three. As a child, Jennifer developed a profound love for fantasy and science-fiction books and movies. Nothing would have made her happier than having her own personal library. Alongside this, she forged friendships that endured a lifetime. As an adult, she achieved a degree in Object Oriented Programming and developed a long career in Computer Science. Throughout her life, Jennifer's main loves remained to be books, movies, friends, and family. She dedicated her life to living independently, fearlessly, and full of love. Phillip Warren West was born May 22 of 1931, in Lohn Texas and passed away December 6, 2023, at the age of 92. He was the only son to parents Lloyd and Blake (Draper) West. Phil, as most people knew him by, grew up in a small farming community and when he was a young man joined the United States Air Force as part of the original Strategic Air Command. He became a flight line instrument technician in the time he served, which was from 1951 to 1955. After he left the service, he spent most of his career as a insurance adjuster and later went on to have his own independent company for a time before retiring from adjusting. In 1984 he met and married his wife Glenda, and she joined him in all the adventures of his life from travel to running the business to all the creative ideas he would come up with. Glenda stood by his side throughout his life unwavering. Phil is survived today by his loving wife Glenda, his son Gavin West, his daughter Kit-ti West and his two grandsons Xavier and Michael Perales, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and loving friends. After graduating from Brackenridge High School, she went to UT Austin to receive her degree in Education. During her married life with John C. Hernandez, she was able to share her passion for teaching with her six children: John D. , Steven, Carole, Stephanie, Mark, and Michelle Hernandez. Her inquisitive and creative mind, attentive listening, endless generosity, and daily laughter and humor brightened so many people--both friends and strangers. Her avid passions - UT Longhorns, San Antonio Spurs, friends, and family- sparked her illuminating smile and, often, her laughter and humor. More than this, her endless dedication and love for Christ was demonstrated in all aspects of her life--woven throughout her life tapestry. She is preceded in death by sons John D. and Mark Hernandez, husband John C. Hernandez, parents Richard P. and Flora G. Gonzales, and sisters Helen Orozco, Florine Fuentes, and Alice Davis. Obituary for Maria Socorro Encarnacion Diaz We are sad to announce the passing of Maria Socorro Encarnacion Diaz "Coca" of San Antonio Texas. Maria died at age 95 on December 6, 2023. Maria passed away surrounded by her loved ones. She is survived by her loving husband of 73 years Abraham Diaz. Her children include: Aurea Diaz Calderon, Nereida Diaz Ortiz, Evelyn Diaz Johnson (Deceased), Manuel Diaz (Deceased), and Virginia Diaz Singleton. Her passing reunites her with Evelyn and Manuel. Besides her children she leaves behind 9 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren , and 3 great-great grandchildren (wow). She was a devoted Church member who would volunteer to cook and provide meals for church events. Maria was born in Puerto Rico during an era where women were not afforded the opportunity to pursue an educational curriculum beyond elementary school. However, with her persistent nature she was able to graduate High School and briefly attend College, "a testament to her resilience and drive. Maria and her Husband Abraham, migrated from Puerto Rico to New York in the latter part to the 1950's, in search of the American Dream. They struggled to make ends meet but never gave up or allowed hardships to compromise their family values. With a lot of hard work and drive, the family was eventually able to achieve their goal of purchasing a house in New Jersey. During the mid 1980's the family decided to relocate to San Antonio, to begin a new phase in their lives in a more accommodating climate. Again, they experience some transitional difficulties, but were able to overcome the obstacles, and succeed. They eventually purchased a home in San Antonio through hard work, deep faith, and a persistent attitude. Maria's memory and legacy will live on through the achievements of her loving and devoted children who will continue to share the love, devotion, wisdom instilled in them by her teachings.Show more

Melvin Peterson

Melvin Eugene Peterson was born in Bennettsville, South Carolina on August 29, 1946 to Emma Mae and Jessie Peterson. Melvin accepted Christ at New Hope Baptist Church in Latta, South Carolina and later joined Sherman African Methodist Episcopal Church in San Antonio, Texas. Melvin received his formal education attending Latimer High School where he was an outstanding athlete. His talent for playing baseball led him to play in the South Texas Negro League for the San Antonio Black Sox. His alma mater honored him in 2019 by inducting him into the Latta Schools Athletic Hall of Fame an honor in which he was extremely proud. Melvin was known to be a Master Roofer. He entered the workforce working for Beldon Roofing and American Roofing where he was a Forman leading his own crews. Later on, Melvin decided to switch careers and went to Truck Driving School and became a long distant Truck Driver. He later retired from this career. Melvin was a comedian and a say what you mean and mean what you say man. Melvin married his wife, Ada Mae, on June 03, 1974 in Latta, South Carolina. They later relocated to San Antonio, Texas where they built a life together. Melvin was preceded in death by his grandparents, Willie and Emmaline Williams, parents, Emma Mae and Jessie Peterson, two brothers, Leroy Peterson and Danny Peterson. Melvin leaves to mourn his passing his partner in life for 49 years, Ada Mae Peterson; three daughters, Sandra Warren, Regina Peterson-Earls and Lorraine Peterson; four sons, Charles Williams (Eugenia), Larry Peterson (Debbie), Terry Sanders (Esther) and Calvin Sanders (Ramona); sister; MaeDell Peterson Hardy; brothers; Jessie Peterson, Jr. (Linda), Charles Peterson (Alice), Donald Peterson and Shawn Peterson (Debra) and a special aunt whom he was raised with, Norma Jean Braddy Britton; one uncle, Charles Williams (Lisa); twelve grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and a host of cousins, nephews and nieces.Show more
