Ms. Lewey, resident of TLC Nursing Home, passed away on February 23, 2024.Ms. Lewey had a Masters Degree of Music and Voice. She was very active with and played a pivotal role in the Arts Council of Blount County, AL. Her devotion to the Arts Council has been and will continue to be a blessing to the people, especially the children of Blount County who she also gave many private voice lessons to.She is preceded in death by parents Herbert and Johnie Wheeler Lewey; sister Gail Rock.She is survived by sisters Jane Wily of Florissant, MO. and Pat Wint of Oneonta, AL.; brother Will Wheeler of Sheffield, AL.A memorial service will be announced at a later date.In lieu of flowers, her request was that donations be made to the Arts Council in her memory.

Shirley Ann Washington was called to her heavenly home on January 29, 2024. She was born in Oneonta, Alabama to the late Frank and Thennie (Payne) Warren on September 3, 1948, and was one of nine children. In her early years, she accepted Christ and was baptized into Church of God in Christ in Oneonta, Alabama.Shirley attended Southside High School in Oneonta, Alabama. She received post education at Gadsden State Community College where she studied Cosmetology. She worked as a self-employed Cosmetologist for over 20 years. Shirley enjoyed spending time with family and friends and enjoyed watching tennis. She was a huge fan of Venus and Serena Williams.Shirley leaves to cherish her memory and mourn her passing to her special companion, Thomas Easter, her children, Mario Warren of Birmingham, Alabama, Cecilia Parker of Atlanta, Georgia, and Angela Washington of Gadsden, Alabama. Brothers James Warren (Elizabeth) of Birmingham, Frank Warren (Heiki) of Germany, Booker T Warren (Denise) of Washington, Donald Warren (Belinda) of Ashville, Earl Warren (Melody) of Oxford, George McKenzie (Joann) of Albertville, sisters Joyce Holston (Roy) of Oneonta, Regina Franklin (Pastor Rodney Franklin) of Birmingham and Brenda McKenzie of Birmingham. She was preceded in death by her mother, Thennie Warren, father, Frank Warren, sister Pattie Warren, and brothers Willie Lee and Ronnie Warren.The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at Lemley Funeral Home from 12:30 PM until 2:00 PM. Roderick ‘Ronny’ E. Blackwood passed away Thursday, January 25, 2024. Ronny was born in Birmingham, AL on August 15, 1953, and graduated from E.B. Erwin High School in 1972. On August 25, 1972, Ronny married his high school sweetheart, Karen Moss Blackwood. He worked for Associated Grocers of Alabama for twenty years and Piggly Wiggly Alabama Distributing Company for sixteen years, retiring in 2021. Ronny loved to fish and talk. He never met a stranger. Ronny loved the University of Alabama football and enjoyed attending the games and NASCAR races whenever given the opportunity. He enjoyed tinkering in his workshop and saving things, beaming with pride after fixing something with a part he saved many years prior. He is survived by his wife, Karen Moss Blackwood, his children, Jennifer Blackwood McElrath (John), and Michael Blackwood (Carla); his brother, Roger Blackwood, grandchildren Kaylyn Blackwood, Elizabeth ‘Ellie’ McElrath, William McElrath, and Brooke Webb, plus many nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Billie G. Blackwood and Maxine Hardin Blackwood, and brother Darry ‘Der’ Blackwood. Visitation will be held at 9:30AM, with service at 11:00AM, Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at Lemley Funeral Home in Oneonta, with burial at Pine Bluff Cemetery in Locust Fork immediately following. The family requests to please consider donations to the American Heart Association.

Edna Pearl Self Slatton, aged 90, of Remlap AL, passed away Dec 2, 2023 with her family by her side. Her husband served in the US Army for the first 18+ years of their marriage. During this time they lived in many places across the US, before settling back in Alabama. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, needlepoint, cooking, crossword puzzles and working in the garden. In her early 40's, Edna decided to earn a degree, she graduated with honors from Jefferson State. She worked several jobs in her life, but her greatest job was being the best mother to her 4 children and nothing took precedence over that job. She had many names: Eddie, Mama, Mom, Grandmama, NaNa, and Nanny. Preceding her in death were her husband Grady Slatton; parents Ed and Alma Self. Survivors include her sons Steve Slatton (Dottie) of Chelsea; Grady Ray Slatton of Remlap; Daughters Sharon Loftis Marsh (Johnny) of Guntersville; Teresa Bryant (Phil) of Austin, Texas; Grandchildren Steven Slatton (Megan) of Chattanooga; Jessica Yother (Ben) of Vestavia; Sarah Worster (Brian) of Chelsea; Seth Slatton (Meagan) of Cypress, TX; Lara Wallace (Chip) of New Hope; Cody Loftis (Brittney) of Arab; Isabella Bryant of Austin, TX; 1 LT Ethan Bryant (Nina) of Clarksville, TN; Dylan Bryant of Smyrna, GA. Kenneth Teal

Kenneth Wayne Teal was called home by his Heavenly Father to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on November 24, 2023 at the age of 83. He was born in Cleveland, Alabama on February 29, 1940 to Marion and Effie (Blackwood) Teal. He often joked about how young he was because he only had a true birthday every four years. Kenneth graduated from Cleveland High School in 1960. He was an athlete participating in all sports, in particular he was a standout football player. It was at Cleveland High School that he met the love of his life, Miss Charlene McWhorter. Kenneth married his high school sweetheart, Charlene, on September 9, 1961. They were blessed with two daughters, Carlene and Sharon. Kenneth was a hard working family man. He worked and became a Master Pipefitter and even taught welding at the union's apprentice school in Birmingham. Kenneth also worked hard on his farm and did welding jobs for people in the community. He was well known in the local Five Points Community and beyond for his generosity and his willingness to lend a hand to anyone in need. Kenneth was a member of Rosa Methodist Church. He was a member of the Dry Creek Masonic Lodge and had served in the past as a Master. He advanced through the Order of the Scottish Rite and then the Zamora Shrine. Kenneth was proceeded in death by his parents, Marion and Effie (Blackwood) Teal, his Aunt Elzie Robertson, who he regarded as a second mother, and Evelyn Ellis who mentored and encouraged him to become the great man he was. Most importantly, he lost his youngest daughter, Sharon Dianne Teal, tragically on November 21, 2021 and never overcame the grief of her death. Kenneth is survived by his sweetheart, Charlene (McWhorter) Teal. They had just celebrated 62 years of marriage. He is also survived by his oldest daughter Carlene (Frank) Williamson. He was loved and cherished by his grandchildren Rachel, John, Paul, and Laura Williamson. He will be deeply missed by many other family members and friends. Services were held on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Rosa Methodist Church with the Reverend Jerry Gargus officiating. Interment was at Mt. Joy Cemetery with Masonic Rites. The family requests in lieu of flowers donations be made to St. Jude Research Hospital or the Shriner's Hospital for Children.
