Howes Cave- Lucy H. McKelvy, 95, of Barnerville Road died on Monday, June 20, 2022, at her residence in the loving care of her family. Born July 9, 1926, in Cuba, NY, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Marguerite (Fuller) Hamilton. Lucy received her business degree from Bryan Stratton School of Business in 1945. She spent the next 20 years raising her family and in 1966, she, her husband and family moved to Howes Cave. In 1967 she became a payroll officer for SUNY Cobleskill retiring in 1988, after 21 years of service. Lucy was a member of the Cobleskill United Methodist Church and a volunteer for over 30 years with the hospital auxiliary. She was an avid quilter and was a member of the Pieceable Day Quilters Guild. She loved her flowers (especially her peonies), tole painting, knitting, sewing, traveling, reading, playing cards and her cats. She enjoyed her two bowling leagues and loved spending time with her many friends. Treasuring their memories are her children: Terri McKelvy of Howes Cave, Debora (Fred) Langevin of Warnerville, David (Chris) McKelvy of Ashland, VA, Ray (Alyce) McKelvy of Watkins Glen, NY, and James (Bonnie) McKelvy of Schoharie; her sister, Sr. Harriet Hamilton OSF of Cortland, and brother, Charles Hamilton of South Portland, Maine; ten grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, LaVerne McKelvy on Dec. 14, 1979, infant daughter, Mary Ellen and great-grandson, Riley Young. Family and friends are welcome to attend a funeral service that will be held at 12PM on Friday, June 24, 2022, at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St. , Cobleskill with visitation from 10AM until noon. Rev. Anna Blinn Cole of the Cobleskill United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Cobleskill Rural Cemetery. The family requests that all attendees wear a mask.
