Cumberland,Lucille M. A. Couture, 96, passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2023, in the Philip Hulitar, Hope Hospice & Palliative Care Center, Providence. She was the wife of the late Arthur J. Couture Jr. Born in Sherbrook, P. Q. Canada, she was the daughter of the late Joseph T. and Eva (Sabourin) Robidoux. Lucille came to the United States in 1950, settling in Cumberland. She was a communicant of St. Aidan Church, Cumberland. She enjoyed ceramics, painting, sewing and making rosary beads. She is survived by her children: Denis J. Couture and his wife Nancy of Harrisville; Lawrence J. Couture and his wife Karen of Vail, AZ. ; Marlene A. Lamoureux of Cumberland. Her nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; her sister: Denise B. Messier of Arizona along with several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Michelle M. Cumberland,Stephen F. Laxton, Sr. 77, passed away on Thursday, November 30, 2023 in the Miriam Hospital, surrounded by his loving family, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. He was the husband of Gail M. (Laurie) Laxton. They were married for the past 53 years. Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of the late John V. and Mildred (Smith) Laxton. He resided in Cumberland for the past 51 years, previously residing in Lincoln. He was a veteran of the RI National Guard, serving during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and family to Daytona Beach. Most of all he cherished his trips to Hawaii, Las Vegas and Aruba with his beloved wife. He was employed as a welder for National Grid for more than 40 years and returned as a supervisor for a number of years. Alongside his wife, he is survived by his children: Stephen F. Laxton Jr. , and his wife Sondra of Cranston, Allison L. Spampinato and her husband Salvatore of Cumberland, and David J. Laxton and his wife Shannon of Cumberland. His six grandchildren: Madison, Sara, Cameron, Abigail, Ryan and Kyle. His grand puppies: Cody, and Elvis, along with several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Glenn Laxton. CumberlandIt is with a heavy heart that we bid farewell to Frances M. Goulet, 86, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, who passed away surrounded by her loving family on Friday, November 17, 2023, on what would have been her 67th wedding anniversary. Born and raised in Central Falls, she was the daughter of the late William L. and Bertha E. Lanigan. Fran made her home in Cumberland, with her late husband J. Robert Goulet and their four children. Fran graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Central Falls, and then from St. Joseph's School of Nursing. As a licensed practical nurse, she worked in a range of medical settings. In 1981, Fran and her husband, purchased Manchester Manor, an assisted living facility in Pawtucket, RI. Together, in their 32 years of ownership, they cared for hundreds of elderly residents, providing them with a comforting, caring environment that they called "home". Over the years, Fran and Bob provided music, entertainment, cookouts, outings and birthday celebrations to the residents. Fran's genuine love of people, coupled with her nursing skills, created an environment of warmth and compassion for residents and their families. Fran is survived by her children: Michael R. Goulet, Paul A. Goulet both of Cumberland, and Patricia T. (Goulet) Soltys of Crofton, MD,. her three grandchildren, Steven Boudreau of East Providence, Madison Soltys, Chapel Hill, NC, and Brooke Soltys of Crofton, MD. She was the mother of the late Barbara Ann (Goulet) Boudreau, and the sister of the late Mary Wonders. The family would like to acknowledge Linda Valencia, Fran's longtime caregiver and good friend who became a loved member of the Goulet family. Gloria M. Gabriele, 97, passed away on Friday, November 3, 2023, in the St. Elizabeth Community, East Greenwich. She was the wife of the late John P. Gabriele. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Domenico and Camilla (Valente) Coia. Gloria resided in Providence for most of her life. She was a former parishioner of St. John Vianney Church, Cumberland, and St. Ann Church, Providence. Gloria enjoyed many things in life such as traveling, gardening, sewing, knitting, crocheting and also caring for cats, but most of all spending time with her family. She was employed as a office manager and book keeper for the former Coffee An' Services, Providence for more than 30 years. She was also a member of the Lincoln Senior, North Providence and Cumberland Senior Centers, and knitting for the Linus Project at the Lincoln Library, an organization knitting blankets for babies. She was also a past president of the Windmill School PTA, Providence. She is survived by her three daughters: Marie A. Kane and her husband Colin of Cumberland, Linda Gabriele-McDonald and her husband David of Bristol, and Ann R. Gabriele-Perilli, M. D. and her husband James of Cumberland. Cumberland, Manuel Catarina Jr. , 93, passed away on Friday, October 20, 2023 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Loretta (Travers) Catarina. They have been married for the past 69 years. Born in Madeira, Portugal, he was the son of the late Manuel and Maria (Rodrigues) Catarina Sr. Manny came to this country in 1949, settling in Central Falls. He was a member of the Madeira Club, Central Falls. He enjoyed grilling, especially known by his family and friends for his Carne Espeto and salt seasoning. Manny was employed by the Cumberland School Department for 8 years until his retirement in 1995. He was also the owner and partner of M&C Grille, Pawtucket for 17 years. Previously he was employed by as a weaver for the former Cadillac Textile Mills for many years. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of Harmony Hospice for the care and compassion provided to Manny during his illness. Alongside his wife, he is survived by his children: Jean M. Mockler and her husband Edward of Wrentham, and Denise A. Viens and her husband Joseph of North Scituate. His three grandchildren: Nathan E. Mockler and his wife Keri, Justin T. "Laurette A. Lefebvre, 80, of Kissimmee, Florida, and formerly of Cumberland, Rhode Island, passed away Monday September 25th at HCS Florida Osceola Hospital with her daughters by her side after a brief illness. Born in Central Falls, Rhode Island she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Marie (Langlais) Bedard. Laurette dedicated her early adult years to raising her four children whom she loved dearly. She enjoyed coaching her daughters' Boys \u0026amp; Girls Club softball teams. She was a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. After moving to Florida Laurette worked in childcare, in food services at a local bowling alley, and as a cashier for Albertsons grocery store. She enjoyed many years of bowling at Brunswick Walnut Hill Bowl in Woonsocket and the former World Bowl in Orlando. She was an avid knitter and dedicated many hours to knitting for her loved ones over the years; each grandchild receiving a full-size blanket knit with her love in every stitch before her hands were no longer able to knit comfortably. She enjoyed spending time at the beach and visiting Disney Springs when her children visited. In her later years her grandson Chad cared for her in her home so she was able to stay at home until her recent illness. Laurette is survived by her children Lisa Buterbaugh and her husband Paul of North Kingstown, Lee-Anne Jackonski and her husband Edward of St. Cloud, FL, Leo Lefebvre Jr. and his wife Karen of Smithfield, and Larry Lefebvre and his wife Amy of Cumberland; her grandchildren Tanner (Katie) Blythe, Emily (Jason Vessella) and Mitchell Buterbaugh, Chad and Brendan (Amber) Laflamme, Shane Jackonski, and Matthew (Kaitlyn Paradiso), Andrew (Suzana Smith), Madison, and Nickolas Lefebvre; her great-grandchildren Everly and Weston Laflamme, and Rowan Blythe; and her siblings, Marcel, Richard and Andre Bedard, and Claire Robitaille. She was the sister of the late Gilles, Raymond, Fernand "Lefty", George and Real Bedard, Carmen Handrigan, Simonne Vallee, Pauline Parent, and Aline Lefebvre. Visitation will be Saturday October 21, 2023, 10:00 am at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 600 Pontiac Ave, Cranston followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 am at the same location. Burial will be private.
