Marleen Susan Smith (nee Gomolka), 69 years old of West Chester, PA passed away on November 30, 2023 after an unexpected and devastating battle with glioblastoma. She was lovingly known as "Susie" to family and close friends. Marleen is predeceased by her parents, Eugene and Cecelia Gomolka. Marleen is survived by her two loving children Sean Smith and Jacqueline Hill (nee Smith). Loving grandmother to Samantha and Connor Smith and Natalie Hill. Survived by sisters Jean Marie Frank (Joel), Jo Anne Lichman, Jane Richardson and brothers Steven Gomolka (Judy) and Carl Gomolka (Suzanne). Also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. She had several lifelong friends that she loved dearly. Marleen was a 1972 graduate of Cardinal O'Hara High School and was a knowledgeable legal secretary with a strong work ethic. She worked diligently her whole life, even up until her diagnosis and was skilled at what she did. Marleen was one of a kind. She was always able to laugh at herself. She earned the loving title "Captain" as she was often the first one to make the plans that needed to be made. Marleen was always available for her family and friends and would give you anything and often did, without even having to ask. Marleen was very loyal to her family and if you told her something in confidence, you could rest assured that trust was there. A fun and youthful grandmother, she was one to always come up with an interesting adventure with her grandkids (and her own children) for the day. She loved them so much. She was also bit of an artist and made some beautiful paintings. Even in her last days, knowing she was facing death, she remained grateful for things like the beautiful view from her hospital room window and visits from friends and family. She had quiet faith at the end, assured that she'd be ok despite her predicament. She was a special person, excellent friend, even better mother and an amazing Grandmom. She will be missed so much. Private service to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Marleen's name to St. Jude's Children's Cancer Center.Show more

David married Barbara in 1989 and they had three beautiful children together. The family moved to Newtown Square in 2006 as David worked for Verizon out of the Malvern garage. His projects included anything from birdhouses to wooden figures of the South Park boys. He filled his backyard with Japanese maple trees and displayed his projects all around the yard. David had a love of dogs from an early age. His childhood dog was named Schultze. He surprised his family with their first family dog Willie a few years after their move. His current best friend was his miniature Australian Shepherd named Sam. David and Sam frequented the Haverford Reserve dog park, which David took pride keeping maintained for the many dogs and friends he made there. His family joked that he was the mayor of the Haverford Reserve dog park. David and Sam would enjoy trips to McDonalds for cheeseburgers after their trips to the park. David always did things in his own way, always staying true to himself and providing a helping hand to anyone who needed it.
