Louis Michael Barnard "Mike", 64, of Whitesville went to be with his Lord and Savior after losing his battle with cancer on Monday April 22nd, while under the care of The Heartford House. He was born August 26, 1954 in Daviess County to Dorthy Jean Franey Barnard and the late Joseph Leslie Barnard. Mike was a graduate of Whitesville Trinity High School and a member of St. Mary's of the Woods Catholic Church. Mike was a lifelong resident of Whitesville and retired from Swedish Match (Pinkerton) after 42yrs of employment. If you knew Mike you knew he was his happiest at home on his 5 acre residence in Whitesville. Mike loved to play cards and always loved being with his family and friends. Mike enjoyed living life, hard work, being in the woods, and spending time with his grandkids. Mike was an active member of the Whitesville Community. At one time Mike was a member of both the Knights of Columbus and the Daviess County Lions Club. Mike donated much of his time by helping with church picnics and funeral dinners. Mike was also preceded in death by a baby son, J.Michael Barnard. Mike is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Bernadette Murphy Barnard "Bernie"; daughters Jennifer Barnard Ralph (Matt); Julia Barnard Hansford (Dustin); and son Joseph Michael "Joe". Mike also leaves behind his seven precious grandchildren; Matthew, Deion, Gavin, Kolier, Joseph, Anne Marie and Jacob; and his mother; Dorthy Jean Franey Barnard; Mike is also survived by his siblings; Joe Jean (Sharon); Debbie Barnard Drury; Danny (Joanne) and Carolyn Barnard Rogers (David) and numerous nieces and nephew and his Murphy in-laws that were a special part of his life. The family would like to express their gratitude to all the caregivers at the Heartford House and all the Hospice members that performed home visits. A celebration of life with be held on Friday, April 26, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church, with burial following at St. Mary of the Woods Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday, April 25, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with prayers at 6:30 p.m. and Friday, April 26, 2019 from 8:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at Cecil Funeral Home in Whitesville.
