Lorraine M. Pawling, age 87, of Duquesne, passed away on Monday, September 11, 2023, at her home. Born in Pittsburgh on December 29, 1935, she was the daughter of late Joseph and Anna (Munich) Gonzales. She retired, after 35 years, as a custodian for the Duquesne City School District. She also worked for 14 years for Nutrition Inc. She enjoyed crossword puzzle books, went to HOBO conventions, was a former member of the MOOSE and enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Her favorite person in the world was her grandchild, Cierra Lee Blue. She was the wife of the late Mike DeRosse; mother of Vicki Malloy of Duquesne, Diana Fierst of Duquesne, Michael (Anna) Gorscak of Baldwin, John (Debra) Pawling of Lincoln Place and Karen (Stephen) Aullard of Idaho; 13 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren; sister of Marianne (Chuck) Williams of Whitaker and late Evelyn (late John) Genes and late Edward Gonzales. Fred John Long, a lifelong resident of Duquesne, PA, passed away on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at the age of 89. Fred is a retired co-owner of Long's Hauling Inc. , located in West Mifflin, PA and had an incredible work ethic that he passed on to his surviving children and grandchildren. Fred leaves behind his beloved wife of 64 years, Jane Elizabeth (Connor) Long. Fred will join his deceased son, David Frederick Long, who passed tragically, at the age of 49. Fred is the loving father to Dianna Long and son-in-law Frank Pescatore of Penn Township and Brian Long and daughter-in-law, Karen Long, of Washington's Crossing, Bucks County. Known as a wonderful and comical grandfather to 10, he leaves behind Jessica (Dr. Charles) Gabbert, Ryan Long (Sarah), Jillian Long, Rebecca Long, Cassandra Long, Katie Rentz, Bria Long, Michael Long, Connor Long and Charlotte Long and great granddaughters Nora and Riley Gabbert. Fred cherished his time with his grandchildren. Fred is also the loving uncle to 37 nieces and nephews and has many great and great-great nieces and nephews and is known as the "happy go lucky," funny uncle. Fred enjoyed time with many of his nieces and nephews with a special bond and was the comic force behind the family plays at "The Mountains" coordinated by his sister Louise. Fred was the 10th child of 12 and was preceded in death by his parents, Francis P. (Red) and Henrietta (Weir) Long and is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Louise and Ken Peairs of Duquesne and brother Robert Long of Elizabeth. He was preceded in death by his 9 siblings- sisters, Mary "Sis" Stewart, Hannah "Noonie" Thomas, and Patricia Bornyas and brothers, Major John A. Long, who gave his life for freedom as a pilot in WW2 (Purple Heart, Silver Star, and Distinguished Flying Star recipient), Commander Timothy Long, Dr. Francis "Babe" Long, Eugene Long, William Long and Richard "Mickey" Long. Fred also leaves behind his in-laws on the "Connor" side-Ruth "Baby Ruth" and Lee "General Lee" Bowden of Defiance, Ohio, Daniel and Mary Connor of Union City, Ohio, Susan and Tom Johnson of Normalville, PA and the late John and Brenda Connor of West Mifflin, PA. Fred served his country as a Tank Driver in the US Army (69th Tank Battalion/10th Infantry Division), after WWII, in Germany and had lifelong friends from the military who have since passed. Fred loved his family, cooking breakfast for crowds, attending Steeler Games (season ticket holder since inception), cutting grass and joking/laughing with others. He was always kind, patient and positive and, to say the least, had an exceptional sense of humor-even up to the end. Fred leaves behind many fond memories and a family who is heartbroken yet blessed to have known him. The family wishes to express thanks to the many angels who took care of him in his final days-Bethany Adams, Allegheny General Hospice, Dr. Menon and the wonderful staff at Jefferson Hospital. Margaret A. (Shedolske) Staszak, 103, formerly of West Mifflin and Overlook Green Senior Living, peacefully entered into eternal life on Sunday, June 25, 2023 at Whitehall Borough Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. Staszak was a loving homemaker and a member of the Resurrection Church of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish. Born in McKeesport, May 24, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Rudolph and Helen (Jordan) Sheldoske. Beloved wife of the late Casmer L. "Tommy" Staszak, she is survived by her loving children, Richard Staszak of Pittsburgh, William (Sandy) Staszak of White Oak, and Carol (Late John) Hladycz of Eighty-Four, a sister, Ann Novak of North Huntingdon, five grandchildren, Tom (Jane) Staszak, Janna Staszak, Jonah (Mariah) Hladycz, Benjamin (Ashley) Hladycz, and Jared Hladycz, and three great grandchildren, Tripp Staszak, Finley Jo Hladycz, and Olive Willow Hladycz, Nieces and Nephews. Jerome F. "Jerry" Schorr, age 81, of White Oak, formerly of Duquesne, passed away, in the presence of his family, on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at UPMC East. Born in Duquesne on March 4, 1942, he was the son of the late Theodore and Irene (Manns) Schorr. He was retired from Grant Steel Corp. , after 19 years, as a craneman. He was also a retired butcher/manager at Sav-a-Lot, Duquesne, a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish-St. Joseph Church, enjoyed doing puzzles, was a former member of L. O. O. M. -Duquesne, American Croatian Club, Duquesne and a social member of V. F. W. Post 188. Kathy Brecko, of Duquesne, PA. , 89, passed away at home, surrounded by her family, on March 31, 2023. She was born in Braddock on July 10, 1933, and was the daughter to the late Edward and Catherine (Medrick) Wentroble. She was the wife of the late Joseph Brecko. Kathy was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish-Holy Trinity Church in West Mifflin. Kathy's greatest joy was being a mother to her children, Joseph John Jr. (Debbie), Sue (Marina Yanko), Cindy, and Lori Brecko. She loved being a grandmother to her Granddaughters Amy, Kathi and Chaya and Great Granddaughter Kelly. She was a homemaker. She also had a career as a Bell Telephone Operator, Teacher's aide for the Duquesne School District, and served as president to the PTA of Duquesne Catholic Schools. She was preceded in death by brothers William (Maxine), George (Ann), Edward (John), Joseph (Late Josephine and Patricia Grace), and sister Mildred (Jim) Noe. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. Kathy had a sense of humor, funloving, and loved to laugh. In her youth, she loved go the clubs to dance to her favorite polkas. Loved watching the Steelers. Loved going to the bingo and the casino. Never went out of the house without putting on some lipstick first. She loved to drive. She loved to cook and bake, especially cookies and pies. Special thanks to our Mom's caregivers Lori, John, and Kayla who allowed our mom's remaining years to live at home, on her terms. Finally to Bridges Hospice for their care and compassion of our mother in her last year of life. And extra thanks to our therapy dogs Rusty and Gracie who gave our mother much happiness and emotional support.
