Joel Schwartz

Joel Schwartz

Age - 85

December 2, 2023

Joel H. Schwartz of Sharon, MA passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 30, 2023 at 85 years of age. Son of the late Irene (March) and Benjamin Schwartz. Loving husband of 60+ years of Bonnie (Sidman) Schwartz. Beloved father of Jill Gordon and her husband Peter of Sharon, MA and Steven Schwartz and his wife Lily of Mansfield, MA. Cherished grandfather of Samantha, Austin, Sydney, Maxine and Belmond. Great-grandfather of Julian and Leanyi. Brother of the late Robert Schwartz of Sharon, MA and the late Helen Cummins of San Dimas, CA. Joel was born in Boston, MA on October 22, 1938. With fire engine red hair and the skinniest legs in town, he grew up in Dorchester, MA, experiencing amazing memories with dear friends and family. After graduating Boston Latin School, he attended UMass Amherst where he joined the Tau Epsilon Phi fraternity. The stories from this time are right out of Animal House and too risque to mention here. Joel knew how to enjoy life. He then moved from UMass to Suffolk University where he graduated with a double major in Government and Psychology. He continued at Suffolk University and earned his law degree in 1964, earning numerous awards for highest grades in his class. After a short stint working for another attorney, he opened up his own law practice in 1965. Like most solo practitioners at the time, he took in every type of case he could to make a living. He handled numerous criminal cases, and, in fact, bought a gun for his safety. . . until his wife Bonnie said, "You with a gun? We are getting rid of that gun!" In the early 1970s he took on more and more personal injury matters and handled them all himself along with 5 legal assistants to support him. His ability to connect with people along with his giant personality helped him grow his business to up to 17 lawyers and 35 employees. This was his second family and he took great pride in being the best boss he could be and in helping tens of thousands of injured victims over the firm's 58+ year history to date. These successes resulted in some of the highest settlements and verdicts of the year. In recognition of his accomplishments, he was named amongst the Top 100 Trial Lawyers by the National Trial Lawyers year after year. He changed and impacted the lives of so many. His greatest joy without a doubt was his family. He was the most dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and cousin anyone could ask for. While his relationship with his wife Bonnie was always an interesting one, it is clear how much he adored and admired her until the day he passed. As for his children, he made sure to attend every event, and was always the loudest clapper in the audience. His pride shined like the brightest beam of light, and that is a memory that will be everlasting. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service on Monday, December 4, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Stanetsky Memorial Chapel, 475 Washington Street, Canton. Burial will follow at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham Street, Sharon. Shiva will be held Monday after Burial as well as Tuesday and Wednesday from 1:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 9:00 PM.
