Lorna Jean Morton, 95 years old, died peacefully on Wednesday October 4, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. A celebration of life for Lorna will be held Saturday, October 14, 2023 at 12:00 PM at The Oaks of Louisiana Chapel, 600 East Flournoy Lucas Road, Shreveport, Louisiana 71115. Following the celebration of life will be a visitation from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home & Park, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, Louisiana 71108. She will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband in Tallahassee, FL. Lorna was born on November 5, 1927 to her parents, Mamie and Erwin Schwarzenholz in Independence, MO. She had only one sister, Carol. Lorna proudly became a Registered Nurse, attending St. Joseph School of Nursing, Kansas City, MO. and graduated with honors in 1947. She met the love of her life, Austin "Bud" Morton and married August 5, 1950. They were so proud of their three sons, Mark, Steve and John. Lorna enjoyed watching them play sports and loved sailing as a family. They all graduated from college with honors. After her retirement, Bud and Lorna moved to Tallahassee, FL where they enjoyed sailing the Gulf, playing tennis, spending time with their many friends and visiting their sons and their families. Bud passed away January of 1998 at the age of 71. Lorna moved to Shreveport, LA in 2000 and became very active in her community. She joined many organizations and groups, such as the P. E. O. , Women's Dept. Club, Book Club, and Bridge groups, to name a few. She also enjoyed volunteering at church and Hospitals. When she turned 90, she moved to The Oaks of Louisiana. Family and friends came for the "Old Grandma's New Life Celebration". She always loved the beauty and peace of nature, especially the trees, flowers and lakes but most of all, her family. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Mark (Pam) and Steve (Cathy), her wonderful grandchildren and great grandchildren. The oldest, Matt and Kara Morton of Boston, MA and their fun and smart, Henry and William, Kelly and Pawel Kaliszan of Denver, CO. and their hiking, biking and sailing, Lindsey and Lucas, Michelle and Richard Murrell of Shreveport, LA. and their super gymnasts, Ballet stars and swimmers, Ella Cate and Emma, and Katy Covey of Shreveport, LA. and her beautiful, fun, master cook Lauren and football star, math genius, Larry. Her presence will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Gary Estus Stephens was born in Columbus, South Carolina on March 10, 1949 to J W Stephens and Mardell Shows Stephens Helms who was an active-duty military family. His father served overseas in WW II. Gary passed away at home of natural causes on December 2, 2023. Gary lived most of his life in Shreveport, Louisiana. He was called a great outdoorsman. There was not much he could not do or teach himself to do. He loved the great outdoors and became anexpert at hunting, fishing, frog gigging - all things outdoors were his passion. He found great solitude in the majestic world of God's great natural kingdom. During his college years he taught himself taxidermy and many of his mounts dressed the walls of friends and associates. In his early years he became an accomplished athlete playing football and baseball at CE Byrd High School. He attended Centenary College for a time on a baseball scholarship going on to play shortstop at Northwestern State University. He held the highest batting average during most of his seasons at Northwestern. He graduated from Northwestern with a double major in 1972. He passed on his legacy of athletics and sportsmanship to his son and grandson who carries on his traditions to the next generations. Gary's parents preceded him in death. He is survived by his son Edward (Eddie) Estus Stephens, of West Monroe, Louisiana and Eddie's children Cole and Madison. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law Brenda and Rodney Hedgecock, of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, and their sons Stephen and Erick. A graveside service is pending arrangements which will be held at his family's grave site in Lake Providence, Louisiana. Amy unexpectedly left this world on December 3, 2023 in Lafayette, LA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a. m. on Monday, December 11, 2023 at the Cathedral of St. John Berchmans, 939 Jordan Street, Shreveport, LA. Celebrating the Mass will be Rev. Fr. Raney Johnson with a private burial to follow. A visitation will be Sunday, December 10 from 2:00 p. m. until 4:00 p. m. with a wake to follow at 4:15 p. m. at Osborn Funeral Home, 3631 Southern Ave, Shreveport, LA. Amy was born on August 23, 1969 in Shreveport, Louisiana. She grew up in Belcher, Louisiana, graduated from St. Vincent's Academy in Shreveport, attended Louisiana Tech University and was a member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Broussard, Louisiana. Amy's greatest joy in life were her children and grandchildren Stevie, Hammy, and Patrick. Affectionately known to her grandsons as their "Honey", she was a true caregiver and was willing, ready and able to do anything for them. Amy was a loving wife, exceptional Mother and a loyal friend. She was also a gifted gardener and decorator. Her unique cottage style, attention to detail and charm will be remembered always and never duplicated. Growing up in the country fostered Amy's love of animals and nature. She enjoyed tending to her chickens, award winning yard, creating amazing flower arrangements and imaginative salads. Her true love was spending time, especially holidays, with family and friends at Chiggero, the family farm. Amy was predeceased by her parents, Paulette Boudreaux Harris and Reginald Elmo Harris Jr. , as well as her mother-in-law Georgiann Chandler Lamb. She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Patrick C. Lamb; daughters, Betsy Lamb Samuels, and husband Jason, Mary Patrick Lamb Goodyear and husband Mitchell; her son, Alexander Harman Lamb; her grandsons, Stevie Bee Goodyear, Hammy James Goodyear and Patrick Edward Samuels; sister, Angel Harris Pou and husband Bill; and brother, Joey Harris and wife Tammie. Pallbearers will be Mitchell Goodyear, Jason Samuels, Merritt Chastain III, Jeff Faludi Jr. , Dr. Jeff Thibodaux, Joey Morton and Dr. Doug Pesnell. Honorary pallbearer will Russell Broussard. A memorial service celebrating the life of William Thomas ("Bill") Murphy, III will be held at 11:00 a. m. , Friday, December 8, 2023 at First Presbyterian Church, 900 Jordan St. , Shreveport, LA. Following the service there will be a reception at East Ridge Country Club, 1000 Stewart Dr. , Shreveport, LA from 12:00 p. m. until 3:00 p. m. Bill was born in Texarkana, Arkansas on September 25, 1931. His parents were Bonnie and William Thomas Murphy, Jr. His younger siblings were Sally Sue Murphy Rodgers, who predeceased him, and James Richard Murphy. He graduated from Texarkana Arkansas High School in 1949 and from the University of Arkansas in 1952, where he majored in business administration and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and ROTC. He and Imogene Whyte married in 1952. Bill served in the United States Air Force for two years, primarily at Charleston A. F. B. in South Carolina. The family moved to Shreveport, where he went to work at Ark La Gas in the Drilling Department. In 1958 he started Murco Drilling Corporation and remained in the drilling business for the remainder of his career. Throughout his career, much of his time was spent travelling to rigs and spending time with his beloved employees. Bill was an avid duck and turkey hunter throughout his life. For many years he entertained friends and family in Stuttgart, Arkansas at his hunting camp, Magnum 12. Imogene and Bill enjoyed spending summers in Sun Valley, Idaho. He was also quite fond of his Shreve Syndicate group and IRI Luncheons. Bill is survived by his wife, Imogene, his three children Alan Murphy (Karen), Tom Murphy (Ginny), and Edie Davis (Chuck), six grandchildren: Caroline Murphy, John Murphy, Thomas Murphy, Henry Shepley (Carly), William Shepley (Elly), Brooks Murphy, and two great grandchildren: Poppy Shepley and Tucker Shepley. Bill served on the Board of Directors of the International Association of Drilling Contractors, Southfield School, The Petroleum Club, Arkansas Best Corp, First State Bank of Texarkana, Committee of 100 and Young Presidents Organization (serving as the LA Chapter chairman). Bill donated his body to LSU School of Medicine. Honorary pallbearers will be Nancy Adamson, Ray Feaster, Lil McClerkin, Members of the Shreveport Syndicate, Harrison Smith, Mac Tatman, John Taylor, Jack Thompson, Larry Tinner, and Gary West. A Dedicated Educator and Nurturing Matriarch Ms. Margie Ree Bryant Rogers, affectionately known as 'Ree,' Margie Ree, grandmother, or grand-ma-to, passed away peacefully, Monday, November 27, 2023. She was born on July 27, 1948, in Homer, Louisiana to the late Ollie and Sadie Bryant Scott. As a compassionate educator, devoted mother, and beloved grandmother, her legacy of love, knowledge, and kindness touched the lives of many. Ms. Margie Rogers graduated from Claiborne High School before earning her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Grambling State University. She furthered her education by obtaining a master's degree from Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, and she demonstrated her commitment to continuous learning and professional development by completing an additional 30 hours of specialized training. Colleagues, students, and parents respected and admired her expertise and compassionate approach. In the early '70s, Ms. Rogers began her teaching career at Forest Hill Elementary in Shreveport, focusing on special needs education. Throughout her tenure at Forest Hill Elementary, Ms. Rogers showcased exceptional dedication, leading to a promotion to Special Needs Coordinator. Her tireless efforts to enhance the educational experience for special needs children exemplified her belief in the transformative power of education. Outside of her professional achievements, Ms. Rogers found immense joy in her family. She was a loving mother to two sons, James Christopher (Lalita) and Jarvis Jermaine (Keshunna), and a daughter, Melonie DeAnne. Additionally, she was a nurturing grandmother to nine grandchildren - eight boys: JaColby, Jordan, Cameron, Jaydon, Jacob, Javian, Joshua, and Josiah, and one girl, Morgan. Her legacy of love extended through generations, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of her family. In her leisure time, Ms. Rogers found solace in the pages of cookbooks and free-style drawing. Her kitchen became a classroom as she joyfully taught her granddaughter Morgan the art of cooking, passing down not just recipes but also a cherished bond. Ms. Rogers retired from Forest Hill Elementary in 2005, concluding a remarkable career that spanned decades. Her impact on the lives she touched, both inside and outside the classroom, will be remembered with gratitude and affection. As we mourn the loss of a remarkable educator and cherished family member, let us celebrate the legacy of Ms. Margie Rogers.
