Burns Roy Sabey, a beloved husband, father, professor, and dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2023, in Morrison, Colorado, at the age of 95. He was born on May 17, 1928, in Magrath, Alberta Canada, and spent his life spreading kindness, laughter, and love to all who knew him. Burns, known for his warm heart and lighthearted nature, will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 74 years, Elaine Bingham Sabey, who stood by his side through life's joys and challenges. He leaves behind a legacy of love through his six children, 36 grandchildren, 65 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. They were the light of his life. A respected agronomist, Burns earned his PhD in soil microbiology and embarked on a fulfilling career as a professor at the University of Illinois and Colorado State University, where he dedicated himself to his work and shared his expertise with countless students. When he was doing outdoor research on experimental crop plots, he loved to joke that he was "out-standing in his field. " Deeply committed to his faith, Burns served diligently in various Church callings. He exemplified true leadership and devotion as a Bishop, Stake President, Regional Representative, Stake Patriarch, and Temple Sealer but he always stressed that home teaching (ministering) is the most important calling in the Church. He and Elaine served full time senior missions in England and New Zealand. His unwavering commitment to his beliefs inspired and uplifted those around him. Family was paramount to Burns, and he cherished every moment spent with his loved ones. He made it a priority to provide for his family and create lasting memories together, including annual family reunions for over 45 years. Burns had a zest for life and enjoyed playing tennis and swimming, sailing, and ice skating on the lake behind his home. He had a green thumb and delighted in tending to his beautiful garden, creating a vibrant oasis of flowers and vegetables. Burns will be remembered for his quick wit, infectious laughter, and genuine kindness. He had a remarkable ability to lighten any atmosphere and bring a smile to the faces of those he encountered. His unconditional love for his wife, who he fell in love with in first grade (really!), served as a shining example of commitment and devotion.
