>> Lois Jean Bowyer Vess Lois Bowyer Vess, aged 83, passed away on October 5, 2023, in Jackson, GA. She is preceded in death by parents, Harry Edward and Evelyn Josephine Bowyer; brother, Harry Edward Bowyer, Jr; sister, Linda Nicholas; and her husband James Vess. A service to commemorate her life will take place on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Nicopolis Church in Bedford, VA. Lois was born on September 11, 1940, in the beautiful mountains of VA to parents Evelyn Josephine and Harry Edward Bowyer. Growing up on a farm, she fondly recalled her childhood that included cattle herding and enjoying her dad's tomatoes on homemade biscuits with her family. At a young age, Lois discovered her faith in a local country church, where she also helped the pastor's family. Afterward, she left high school near its end to complete her education in Tennessee and briefly attended Tennessee Temple Bible College. Returning to Bedford, she began working at Rubatex where she met James Vess. They married on November 25, 1959, embarking on a life that led them across the United States as James pursued his career. Before leaving Virginia, they were active members of Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg and contributed to the founding of Liberty University. In a heartfelt love letter dated December 5, 2001, James expressed deep gratitude for Lois's unwavering support throughout their journey together. Despite hardships and heartbreak, Lois's life was marked by resilience and unwavering faith. She played a prominent role in Christian Women's Clubs across several states and was actively involved in Bible Study Fellowship. Lois's powerful prayer life was characterized by "calm assurance" and heartfelt petitions for her beloved grandchildren, seeking protection, guidance, and a profound love for their Savior. Answers to her fervent prayers were evident throughout her life. Lois Bowyer Vess leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and devotion to her family and her Savior. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. She is survived by her son Gregory Vess of Big Island, VA; daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Tony Studebaker of Conyers, GA; grandchildren, Payne and Padraig Vess of Kennesaw, GA, and Austin, Andrew, Anna, and Alex Studebaker of Conyers, GA; brother Jackie Dale Bowyer of Bedford, Virginia; and nephews, Ronald Lee Nicholas of Lynchburg, VA and Edward Allen Bowyer of Bedford, VA. Lloyd Thomas (Tom) Bloyd (age 98) was born on September 10, 1925 In Hoopeston, Illinois and died December 2, 2023 in Lynchburg, Virginia. He was the son of William Thomas Bloyd and Daisy Bee Judd Bloyd. He is survived by 2 daughters, Donna Bloyd Tuley (Don) of Pontiac, Illinois, and Ellen Bloyd Beach Richardson of Hillsville, Virginia, 5 grandchildren: Amy Beach Crisp (Jerry) of Lynchburg, VA, Hillary Beach Culler (Jeff) of Hillsville, VA, Benjamin Thomas Beach (Megan) of Lynchburg, VA, Michael Ray Tuley (Kristin) of Pontiac, IL and Joshua Thomas Tuley of Pontiac, IL; 7 great grandchildren: Bayley Elizabeth Crisp Lindevaldson (Joshua), Taylor William Crisp, Isabella Lowe Crisp, Samantha Dawn Beach, Chloe Lynn Beach, and Sadie Grace Beach, all of Lynchburg, VA, Camden James Tuley of Pontiac, IL, sister-in-law Tammy Walker Bloyd of Omaha, Nebraska, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 67 years, Grace Marie Pyle Bloyd, 4 brothers: Troy (Vera), Glenn (Margaret), Lars, David (Tammy), 2 sisters: Erminee Bloyd Boughton (Stanley) and Inez Bloyd Ferrell (Dale), a niece, Linda Kay Bloyd, one great grandson, Dane Michael Tuley, and a great nephew, Eric Steven Lewis. Tom attended schools in Hoopeston, Illinois and graduated from John Greer High School in 1943. He proudly served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II in the South Pacific as a turret gunner on B24 aircraft. He held several jobs before beginning a career with the Spurgeon Mercantile Company stores. He was a store manager in Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota before being promoted and returning to Illinois to work as a buyer in their Chicago office. He retired after 40 years with the company. Tom was active in several churches throughout his life, often serving as Sunday School teacher, deacon, elder, and trustee. He was a popular greeter for 33 years at Blue Ridge Community Church in New London, Virgina, where he and Grace were members. He hand wrote birthday cards and sent them to members of BRCC, often sending 450 cards every month. He continued to mentor younger Christians, sharing his godly wisdom and humor. He and Grace loved to entertain, and their home was a refuge and haven for many. He enjoyed time in his workshop, producing beautiful furniture, memo boxes, book boxes and other useful and special items. He also enjoyed golfing, hiking, reading, going to yard sales, and especially, camping with Grace in a series of trailers named the Tag-a-Long. A Celebration of life will be held at Blue Ridge Community Church (2361 New London Road, Forest, VA 24551) on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 1:00 p. m. Ronald Boyer, 74, of Goode, Virginia died on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at Oakwood Manor in Bedford, Virginia. He was the husband of Marianne Boyer for 33 years. He was born Saturday, November 13, 1948 in Coshocton to the late Richard and Janice (Kitchen) Boyer. After their death his Aunt Jean Watts treated Ron as her own son. Ron was a member of Mountain View Church, and a charter member of the Forest Rotary Club. He served in the U. S. Army during Vietnam. He was a former High School History teacher. He and Marianne owned 3Cats Promo, Inc. After retirement he went to work at Home Depot and Lowes. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Jason Boyer, and Nathan (Maki) Boyer; grandchildren, Madison, Libby, Ian and Colin Boyer; a brother, Tom (Jackie) Watts; a niece, Missy Guilliams; and two nephews, Tony and Andy Watts. Along with his parents and aunt, he was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Ed Watts; and a sister, Sue Wright. A celebration of Life will be held at 6:00 p. m.
