Lois Harms May passed from this life on June 17 and is now safe in the arms of her Creator and His son, Jesus. Visitation will be at held at Greenlawn Church of Christ in Lubbock at 1:00PM Thursday June 23, followed by her memorial service at 2:00 PM. Born to Ed and Ora (Costner) Weber on May 27, 1925, in Pawnee, Oklahoma, and was the youngest of five children. Due to the death of her mother in 1927 and family difficulties, Lois lived with her grandmother, Minnie Weber, in Caldwell, Kansas from the age of six till she married in 1946. Lois attended school in Caldwell, Kansas, graduating high school in 1943. She attended Emporia Teachers college for one summer, received her Emergency Teacher Certificate and taught one year in a county school, Cashatt District 25. Lois married Edwin Dale Harms January 20, 1946, and to this union four children were born. Dale died April 3, 1959, while the family lived in California. Determined to not raise her children in California, Lois sold the family home and moved to Lubbock, Texas, later that same year. After moving to Lubbock, Lois worked for Lubbock Christian College, was the first secretary for Greenlawn Church of Christ, and went to work for the Lubbock State School when it opened in 1969. She completed an Associate Degree from LCC in 1963 and a bachelor's degree in education from LCC in the first baccalaureate class, 1972. She became a certified Special Education teacher later that year and taught at the Lubbock State School for 16 years, after which she taught Special Education for another 4 years at Lubbock Cooper ISD, retiring in 1990. After successfully raising her four children, Lois married Archie May in 1976 and acquired three bonus children. Unfortunately, Archie died in 1981. A life-long member of Greenlawn Church of Christ, Lois was a true servant, a woman of faith, a beloved Bible Class teacher, and a dear friend to many. Besides volunteering as a teacher in a literacy program, she blazed the North American highways with her dear friend Christa Dobbs for fun, adventure and to help others in need. Beginning in 1997, Lois and Christa traveled with the Sojourners, a volunteer community of retirees with RV's who travel to do volunteer labor at children's homes, bible camps, and small churches around the country. Lois was preceded in death by her grandmother, parents, three brothers and one sister, husbands Edwin Dale Harms and Archie May, son Craig, stepchildren Marlos, and Melita May. Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Kirk (Mary Ellen), Lynn (Janie), Resa (Brent) Newton, Marlana (Ken) Roachen; nine grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and a host of dear friends.
