Jerry L. McHenry, a loving husband, brother, father, father-in-law, grandfather, and great-grandfather went to be with his heavenly father on Tuesday, November 14 at Lock Haven Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, at the age of 86. Jerry's passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who loved and knew him. He was born April 17, 1937 in Farrandsville to the late Lee J. and Myrtle Irene Warner McHenry Sr. Jerry was a 1955 graduate of Lock Haven High School. He proudly served in the Pennsylvania National Guard. A Hometown Hero banner proudly hangs in downtown Lock Haven honoring his service alongside his son, Keith. On April 25, 1959 in Jersey Shore, PA, he married the love of his life, Nancy Sparks who survives. Jerry was a hard-worker throughout his life. He worked at Hammermill Paper Company in Lock Haven until retiring in 1989. He met many people working there who became life-long friends. Jerry valued the friendships he made and treasured them. He and his best-friend, Ronnie Jones, celebrated 83 wonderful years of friendship together until Ronnie's passing. Besides his wife Nancy, Jerry is survived by two daughters, Debbie (Joe) Dawes, of Avis and Holly (Steve) Gharet, of Jersey Shore; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; a brother Calvin McHenry of Lock Haven; a sister Betty Rosser of Fort Lauderdale, FL. , and two brother-in-law's, Jack Allbeck of Northumberland and James Bressler of Lock Haven, also many nieces and nephews. Jerry enjoyed being outdoors. He loved fishing in local creeks, and was an avid deer hunter. He could accurately name every tree in the forest just by looking at the leaves. He also had a fondness for all animals and loved watching deer and turkeys, eat in his backyard. He fed birds in the winter and hummingbirds in the summer. Of course, he knew every bird that came to feast. In the summer months, his passion was organic gardening growing vegetables without chemicals. Jerry also had an age-old love affair of ice cream especially cherry vanilla, his favorite, anytime of the year. Throughout his life, Jerry had a fondness for travel. He and his wife, Nancy traveled to many different states and countries. Some of his favorites were Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and of course The Holy Land, Israel in 2001. He also enjoyed the scenery and animals in Alaska. Jerry's last adventure was to Key West, Florida in 2021 during the winter months. He always said you travel someplace warm when it's cold and not when it's warm here. Jerry was also known for his handyman skills. He had a natural talent for fixing things and would help you out at a moment's notice. He would bring his car which was called his "tool box on wheels" because he had everything he ever needed in that trunk. Not long after that the problem would be solved. In addition to his parents, Jerry is predeceased by a son, Keith McHenry in September 2019; his best friend of 83 years, Ronnie Jones; five siblings: Mildred Simcox, June Dolan, Gloria Keen, Delores Bressler, Lee J. McHenry, Jr. and a granddaughter Jennifer Illene Dawes.
