"Linda E Metcalf,73,of West Springfield, passed away at home on September 17th after a long illness. Linda was born in Hartford CT and raised in Westfield MA. She was a graduate of Westfield High School,class of 1967. Linda is survived by her husband Kirk Metcalf of West Springfield, Daughters, Mindy Fitzgerald (Kevin Fitzgerald) of Savannah,GA Amber Metcalf of Ludlow, MA Grandchildren, Sabrina Shaver ( Nick Foley) of Springfield,MA Ian Fitzgerald of Savannah,GA Gabriel Morris ( Victoria L\u0027Heureux) of West Springfield,MA And a great grandson Lucas Foley of Springfield. She also leaves to cherish her memory 4 sisters, Suzanne, Deborah,Judith and Cynthia and 3 brothers Ralph, Ronald and Thomas She was predeceased by her parents Ralph and Thelma Messenger and a brother Timothy. A service will be held on Friday November 3rd,3pm at the Veterans Cemetery in Agawam MA Donations to honor Linda should be made to The Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson\u0027s Research. Carol Ann Barnes, 81, passed away on November 29, 2023, at Bear Mountain at West Springfield. Born in Westfield, MA on August 13, 1942, she was a daughter of the late Charles E. Nutter and Virginia L. (Root) Moriarty. She graduated from Westfield High School in 1960 and then attended Elms College. For many years, she worked for Trinity Management in Boston, MA as an Assistant Vice President before retiring in 2018. In her spare time, Carol loved entertaining family and friends which included hosting many memorable July 4th and Christmas parties. To cherish her memory, she leaves her husband of 62 years, Eugene A. Barnes; her children Christopher Barnes and his wife Debra, Leanne Machamer and her significant other Brian and Amy Haramut and her husband Robert; her grandchildren Jamie Barnes, Cassie Hicks, Malisa Zarlengo, Christopher Haramut and Savannah Machamer; her great grandchildren Tyler, Logan, Bernadette, and Arlo; her siblings Geraldine Brewster, Jacqueline Smith, and Marshall Moriarty as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her infant sister, Gloria Nutter and her brother Robert Moriarty. The family would also like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Nurse Shawn and the staff at Bear Mountain for their exceptional care and kindness. Mary Schmitt Caruso 1941 - 2023 West Springfield - Mary (Schmitt) Caruso, 81, passed away peacefully at home Saturday morning surrounded by her loving family. Born in Springfield the daughter of the late Joseph and Doris Schmitt. She is survived by her husband Francis Caruso and her daughters Jana Boruff and her husband Joe and Gia Curran and her husband Joe and her son Christian Caruso and his wife Jessica. Grandmother to Veronica Hull, Alexander Hull, Philip and Anthony Curran and Giulia Caruso. She also leaves her brother E. Coulter Schmitt. She worked in the legal field and went on to retail, serving as Treasurer of Gia, Inc. She ended her career as a self-employed interior design consultant, a lifelong interest. She was a past member of the Springfield Country Club and past President of Ramapogue Jr. Women's Club. She and her husband wintered in Florida for six years and then made their residence in Sun City Center, FL for 8 years before returning to West Springfield to their family. While in Florida, she was Vice President of their association and chaired the landscape committee for the community. She especially enjoyed the social clubs and theatre there. She loved opera all her life but her greatest passion in life was her much loved family. Jonathan R. Nash1984 - 2023 West Springfield - Jonathan (Jon) R. Nash, 39, died peacefully Wednesday morning surrounded by his loving family. Jon was born in Springfield, son of Kathleen (Brown) Nash and the late Thomas E. Nash. He grew up in West Springfield and was a 2002 graduate of West Springfield High School and 2006 graduate of Nichols College. He worked as a Beer Salesman for Craft Brewers Guild and was a longtime bartender at Collins Tavern. Jon loved the New York Giants, the Red Sox and spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his beloved wife, Beth (Ingalls) Nash, and their three children, Jack, Emma and Conor; his brother Chris Nash and his wife Alex; his sister Alison Nash; his mother and father-in-law Debbie and Kim Ingalls; and his brother-in-law Mike Ingalls. He also leaves cherished nieces and nephews Courtney, Madison, Ryan and River, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends. Wanda Lee Jenks, 92 of West Springfield, passed away early Friday morning at home after a brief illness, November 10, 2023, surrounded by her family and loved ones. She was born December 12, 1930 in Gem, West Virginia, the daughter of Samuel Clyde and Lucinda (Dean) Wade. Wanda graduated from West Springfield High School. While a senior in high school, she took first place in a pie contest for her cherry pie. She married the love of her life, Ralph E. Jenks on December 20, 1948. They owned Jenks Motor Sales, which served the community until their retirement in 2009. They enjoyed traveling together to do the work of the farm dealer's association NAEDA. She was a member of West Springfield United Methodist Church and actively involved in the community. She helped with kitchen duties, bakes sales and after school programs. Wanda was a founding member and first president of the Springfield Service Circle. Wanda was an election worker and notary public. She was a Girl Scout Leader and helped place flags at the cemetery for Memorial Day each year. In later years, she delighted in taking care of her great-grandchildren and any baby who came into her orbit. Wanda enjoyed reading novels, vegetable gardening, and the Cleveland Indians. Most of all, she enjoyed her family, cooking for her family and whoever happened to be in her home, and caring for her neighbors, friends, and babies. Wanda will be remembered for her infectious laugh, smile, and willingness to help anyone she could. Survivors include her daughters Brenda (Richard) Sembower of Girard, PA, and Rev. Deborah (Dennis) Hills of W. Springfield; grandchildren Mark (Cara) Sembower, Kristy (Rev. David, Jr. ) Buzard, Justin (Lisa) Hills, and Julie (Jamie) Arseneault; and great-grandchildren Annabeth, Tyler, Desmond, Millie, Izzy, and Alex; brother-in-law Robert Bright; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Ralph March 3, 2023; and siblings Carrie Bowers, Samuel Georg Wade, Lilburn Wade, Mary Alice Warner, Esta Grace Russell, Minnie Garrison, June Ator, Freida Carol Bright, Betty Finlaw, and Coletta Nault. Wanda's family would like to thank those who cared for her in recent months, including Kathy, Bonnie, Jen, Nancy, Hailey, and Hayden. Funeral service will be 10:00 A. M. , Monday November 13, 2023, at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St. , Conneaut, with Rev. Robert Klingler and Rev. David Buzard, Jr. , officiating. "Janet (Voghel) Sheil 96, of West Springfield passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 5,2023. She was born in New Bedford, MA on May 18,1927 to the late Maria (Cote) and Hilaire Voghel. She was a graduate of Waterbury Catholic High. Mom was a devout Catholic and had a special devotion to the Blessed Mother. She was a Eucharistic minister and a member of the Women's Club rosary group. Her family was her greatest blessing. Mom raised 13 children with amazing grace. She was incredibly organized to ensure daily life ran smoothly. As the years went on, you could find mom volunteering at the St. Thomas library or enjoying playground duty at the school. She had a kind and gentle way with a quick wit, often turning a "challenging situation "into smiles and laughter. We never heard her say a bad word about anyone. Her lessons and love will forever be in our hearts. She was the beloved wife of James A. Sheil, who passed in 2000, loving mother of Peter (Ellen), Rachel Lacombe, Marianne Britt (Vin), Jim (Karen), Patrice Afflitto (Michael), John (Christine), Kathryn Sady (Ed), Regina Graydon (Noel), Christopher (Diane), Colleen DeVita (Andrew), Margaret Cecchetelli (Tedd), Michael (Debbie), Jeanne Marie Phaneuf (Paul), devoted grandmother of 43 and great grandmother of 33. She also leaves several nieces and nephews. Janet was predeceased by her grandson Matthew Joseph DeVita, her daughter-in-law Donna Sheil, her son-in-law Francis Lacombe and her three siblings; Laurent and Adrian Voghel and Margaret Desnoyers. Janet's family wishes to extend their appreciation to Janet's caregivers for the care and love they shared with our mom. WEST SPRINGFIELD - Gary Wayne Fowler, 83 of West Springfield passed away peacefully on Friday, October 20, 2023. Gary was born in Westfield on October 2, 1940, to Harold Preston Fowler and Lena Morrison Fowler. Gary will be remembered for enjoying his life every day after being retired for 30 years from various jobs as a tool designer. Gary loved to travel and eat good food, laugh and enjoy life. He was into genealogy, and was extremely proud of his Canadian and Scottish ancestry. Gary could make anyone laugh, and was a very caring individual. During his retirement, Gary volunteered his free time to be an Ombudsman and advocate for the elderly in nursing homes. Gary was also a Mason and a member of many local lodges. Gary also attended Mitteneauge United Methodist Church for many years. Gary was predeceased by his beloved sister, Arlene LaPlante and his brother, Harold "Junior" Fowler. Gary was a single parent in an era when fathers did not get custody of children and leaves behind three children. His son, Brian Fowler, and his wife, Eileen, his daughters, Susan Fowler, and Beth (Fowler) Newell and her husband, Rich. Gary has six grandchildren. He was predeceased by his oldest grandson Nicholas Cordova, and he is survived by his grandsons, George Cordova, Brendan Fowler, Steven Newell, and Cameron Fowler and his only and favorite granddaughter, Nicole Newell. Gary is also a great grandfather to Tony, Savanna, Kali and Marley Cordova, as well as leaving behind his many cousins nieces and nephews. Peter C. Parmenter1946 - 2023West SpringfieldPeter "Pete" Carl Parmenter passed away Friday morning at his home in West Springfield after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. His loving wife of 23 years, Diane was at his side. He was 77-years-old. Pete was born on July 22 1946 in Boston Massachusetts. He was adopted by Ruth (Bowen) and E. Carl Parmenter. Pete attended Chelmsford High School where he was a proud member of its undefeated football team. He went on to Bridgeton Academy and Tufts University. Football was a life-long passion and he never missed a chance to yell at his beloved Patriots. Pete also loved the ocean, believing that the best moments were spent with the sound of waves in the background. The best moments of his golden years were spent with Diane in Savannah GA, and holidays at his beloved Key West. Professionally, Pete was always a "lumberman" and was proud of having worked his way from unloading rail cars, to working in management. As a young man, he worked at Webber's Cash and Carry. He was a traveling salesman for George McQuesten, Inc. He eventually sold lumber by the boxcar from the office. His final job was a Marketing Specialist for the Cedar Shake and Shingle Bureau, making presentations and answering questions for those in the field. Pete's love of lumber was always present. His favorite toast for any occasion, said with a wide smile, was "baby trees. "Pete was a Navy veteran. He enlisted in the United States Navy and served with the Naval Submarine division during the Vietnam War. Spending 2 years on active duty and 4 years in the Reserves. In addition to his wife, Pete leaves his son Brad and his granddaughter Emily. Pete was a beloved Grandpa to Nicole, Chad, CJ and Dylan LaBonte and is also survived by many beloved step children, grandchildren, niece and nephew. The committal service will be held in the Massachusetts Veteran's Memorial Cemetery on Tuesday, Oct. 17th at 2:00pm. The West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home is handling all arrangements. Eileen M. Foley1939 - 2023 West Springfield - Eileen Mary (Carroll) Foley, 84, died peacefully Sunday evening surrounded by her loving family. Eileen was born in Springfield, the daughter of the late Edward and Mary (Landers) Carroll. She grew up in Springfield and had lived in West Springfield for the past 59 years. Eileen was a proud graduate of Sacred Heart High School and College of Our Lady of the Elms, valuing the role that her Catholic education played in her life. Eileen met her husband Tommy at an Irish dance in Holyoke, and they enjoyed 60 years of marriage together. They raised three children and established a life together that revolved around their faith, their family and their friends. Eileen cherished her family and friends, and she and Tommy enjoyed entertaining their loved ones with dinner parties, Christmas Eve parties that became a Foley family tradition, and always hosting Thanksgiving dinners. While working full-time and raising three children, Eileen attended Westfield State College evenings earning her Certificate in Library Science. A lifelong learner and avid reader, Eileen later earned her Master's Degree, also from Westfield State College. Eileen was a longtime elementary school educator and librarian in the Springfield Public School Department, and graciously retired in 2002. She touched many lives in her career as former students and co-workers could attest. As a lover of Irish music, Eileen never saw a St. Patrick's Day celebration that she could resist. The Bowles School celebration went on the entire month of March and was a must-see event. Eileen spent her life primarily striving to be a great wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Eileen took great interest in her grandchildren and was unconditionally supportive of them. Her husband of 60 years, Thomas V. Foley died last March. She leaves three children: Mary Foley Walsh and husband Jeffrey of Hopkinton, John E. Foley and wife Danae (Psilopoulos) of Wellesley, and Thomas J. Foley of Newton. Eileen will miss her four wonderful and supportive grandchildren: Alison and Kathryn Walsh and Charlie and Teddy Foley. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brother William J. Carroll. The Funeral will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home Friday, October 6th at 10:00 A. M. with Liturgy at Sacred Heart Church at 11:00 A.
