On November 21, 2023, Linda Kay Horn Davis received the ultimate healing. I can only imagine the reunion. The heavenly choir has a new voice, and we rejoice with them. Kay was born in Rome GA in 1944. Her parents, Bruce and Ruby Horn, were thrilled with their beautiful baby girl. They went on to have 2 more daughters Carolyn Choate (David) and Debra Treglown (Jerry). When she was 15, she met the love of her life, Larry Davis. Her hair wasn’t done so she hid under the bed until he left. Larry went into the Army and Kay finished high school and waited for him to come home. Larry wrote the most amazing letters to her while he was gone. Meanwhile, according to the tales that I’ve heard, she spent the gap bossing Carol and Debra around. After being discharged from the Army, Larry came home and began a job at Kraft Paper products, where he remained for the next 40+ years. On March 16, 1963, at Mt. Alto Baptist Church, they were finally married. Kay not only got a husband that day, she also got a sister in-love, Linda Davis Sneed. At Mt. Alto Baptist Church, Kay served in many positions over the years. She was the church clerk, taught youth Sunday School, training union and Sunbeams. She loved working with the youth. Kay’s love of children was the basis of her plan to have 12 children. On January 2, 1964, Sonya Lavon Davis Black AKA the favorite was born. Three years later, on April 13, 1967, the other one was born AKA Sharon Lee Davis Green (Britt). After the other one was born, Kay decided that two was enough. She went on to feed and love thousands of children as "the Lunchroom Lady" for 28 years at several Rome City Schools. She was the manager at Rome High School from its opening until her retirement in 2004. In 1984, the favorite gave birth to the first grandchild, favorite 2. 0. It was a boy! William Stephen Self (Lisa) was the apple of her eye. She loved him so much it was sickening, and he could do no wrong. One time she even took the fall for a minor fender bender when he was learning to drive. She and Larry took him on numerous camping trips. They took him on a cross country vacation and the memories shine on. Stephen and Lisa gave them their great-granddaughter, Peyton Emileigh Self. She kept them young and she aggravated Larry to no end. Several years later, the other one caught up and gave them a granddaughter to balance the scale, one Kayla Michelle Green Blackiston (Chris). Kayla came into this world eyes wide open and ready for world domination. She brought sunshine and joy to them from the moment she was born. Alzheimer’s robbed them of the joy that came with the birth of their great-grandson, William Briggs Blackiston. They both met him and loved him, but they never really understood who he was. Kay and Larry are back together, and I can only imagine the reunion. They taught us what true love was supposed to look like. They were married over 50 years and still held hands when they walked together. *Kay always told us that a good marriage was like building a campfire, you want your logs close enough to keep each other warm and far enough apart so that they didn’t smother one another. * A joint celebration of life will be held on December 5th from 6-8pm at Mt. Alto Baptist Church. Friends are invited. Family is expected. In lieu of flowers, we request that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s’ Association at alz. orgShow more
