      Phoenix Messer, Jr. a.k.a “Cloudy” age 70 of Walker, KY born October 18, 1953, to Phoenix and Hannah Messer, died at Baptist Regional Health, Corbin, KY on February 19, 2024.        Phoenix Jr. was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Truman and Waymond, sisters Loretta, Faye, Deloris, and Charlene.        He is survived by his daughter, Melissa Messer; sister Barbara Cutter; nephews Duane Bingham and Jimmy Ferrell; sister-in-law Geraldine Messer; special caregiver and loving former wife, Shirley Stewart; stepdaughter Alicia Dawn Smith. Junior leaves behind many nieces, nephews, close friends and loved ones to mourn his passing.        Funeral services for Junior will be held Sunday, February 25, 2024, at 2PM in the chapel of Brooks-Durham Funeral Home, Pineville, KY with Rev. Bud Sizemore, and Bro. Terry Joe Messer officiating. Interment will follow in Messer Cemetery, Walker, KY.        Friends and family may call at the funeral home beginning at 11AM until the funeral hour on Sunday, February 25, 2024, at Brooks-Durham Funeral Home. Mr. James B. Wagner age 82, husband of the late Elsie Marie Ball Wagner of Dayberry Lane, Corbin, Kentucky passed away on Wednesday, January 24th 2024 at the Baptist Health Hospital in Corbin, Kentucky. He was the father of James Wagner of Corbin, Kentucky and Virginia Lynn Nixon and husband, Mike of Monroe, North Carolina. He was the brother of Ricky Wagner of Idaho. Besides his wife he was also preceded in death by his parents, Howard Jerome and Virginia Alcorn Wagner. He was of the Pentecostal faith and attended the Church of God, Mountain Assembly. He a retired self-employed carpenter and a veteran of the United States Navy. Memorial services for Mr. James B. Wagner will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Friday in the Laurel Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Tom Matney officiating. Burial will follow in the Stansbury Cemetery in Corbin, Kentucky. The family of Mr. James B. Wagner will receive friends at Laurel Funeral Home from 12:00 Noon until the service hour of 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Diana Lynn Alsip, age 67, of Corbin, Kentucky, passed away on Tuesday February 13, 2024.Born in Corbin, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late Hubert Cox and Juanita Hart Cox.  Diana was a homemaker and member of Woodbine Christian Church.  She loved being with her family and cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren.  Diana loved being at the lake, crafting, and baking especially the cakes she made for her family.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Michael Edward Cox, Wallace Dean Cox, and Bobby Joe Cox.Diana is survived by her loving husband, Lee Alsip; two daughters, Cynthia Jordan (Sean), and Jennifer Lynn Alsip; eight grandchildren, Brandon Jordan (Amanda), Jeremy Jordan, Samantha Jordan, Eryn Hamblin, Nathan Hamblin, Carrie Hamblin, Zoey Hamblin, and Zachary Hamblin; two great grandchildren, Finnlee and Jade Jordan; siblings, Brenda Hall (Jack), Helen Green, Sharon Mayne (Terry), Patsy Cobb, Roger Cox, and William Cox; and by a host of other family and many friends including special friends, Usha Patil and Janie Hensley.Visitation for Diana Alsip will be on Tuesday February 20, 2024, from 11am until 1pm at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home, where her funeral service will be held at 1pm on Tuesday.  Burial will follow in the Bark Camp Cemetery in Whitley County.Messages may be written to the family at vankirkgrisellfuneralhome.com

Drake Carter Southerland, age 10, of Corbin, Kentucky, passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2024.Drake was a fourth-grade student at Corbin Elementary. He was an active child who loved playing football, basketball, baseball, but he especially loved football. His favorite team was the Miami Dolphins. Drake enjoyed listening to music and playing video games and achieved Diamond Level status on Fortnite. He liked sea turtles and was fascinated by Pterodactyls. But his favorite pastime was being with his family and friends and teasing his siblings.He was preceded in death by his brother, Noah McWhorter; grandmother, Angela Bays; great grandparents, Lena Sawyers, Carol Shinkle, Annie Chapman, and Roy and Arlene Southerland, and by his great great grandmother, Sally Shinkle.Drake is survived by his parents, Justin and Tashie Southerland and Stephanie and Cody Smith; siblings, Cameron Southerland, Joshua McWhorter, Makenzie McWhorter, Brianna Coffey, Carson Smith, Camryn Smith, Maverick Smith, and Myla Smith; grandparents, Greg and Melissa Southerland, Roger and Barbara Coffey, and Patty "Mimi" Campbell; great grandmother, Shirley Taylor; aunts and uncles, Kevin Southerland, Keisha French, Payten and Summer Walters, Tabitha Coffey, Dylan Coffey, Vanessa and Robert Massey, Paige Ramey,  Dylan Southerland, Sarah and Garrett Johnson, and Paige Ramey; and by numerous cousins, family, and friends who all loved him.Visitation for Drake will be on Sunday, February 18, 2024, from 4pm until 7pm at Immanuel Baptist Church, Browning Acres Road in Corbin, Kentucky. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Shirley Jenkins Hall, and brothers, Jerry Bird, Calvin Bird, Billy Bird, and Rodger Bird.Nancy is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Rudy Carroll; children, Lonnie R. Carroll, Jr. (Marsha), and Belinda C. Hamilton (Derek); 8 grandchildren, Tiesa, Tasha, Danielle, Alexis, Gabrielle, Rudy, Daniel, and Bonnie; 14 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren; special sisters-in-law, Okeh Bird and Sally Bird; and by a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends whom she loved dearly.Nancy was a lifelong member of Central Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and lead the "Golden Girls" arts and crafts group. Her greatest joy was serving the Lord and being active in the church.Nancy loved the Corbin Redhounds and attended every ballgame, practice, and sporting evening the school was involved in. She also loved the Kentucky Wildcats and enjoyed going to games in Lexington and especially going to the SEC Tournament with her husband to cheer on the "Big Blue"!Visitation for Nancy Bird Carroll will be held on Monday, February 12, 2024, from 11:00am until 1:00pm at Central Baptist Church, where her funeral service will be held at 1:00pm with Rev. He was the brother of June Marie Worstell and husband, Jack of LaFayette, Indiana, Dora Mae Taylor of Ellettsville, Indiana and Janice Pearl Porter of Lily, Kentucky. He was also blessed with a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing. He was of the Baptist faith and a retired truck driver and a veteran of the United States Army. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Edgar and Pearl Gregory Taylor and by two brothers, James Edward Taylor and Ronnie Lee Taylor. Following the wishes of Mr. Jerry Wayne Taylor the family has chosen cremation and there will be NO SERVICES. Laurel Funeral Home is honored to be of service to the Taylor family.
