The beloved Sarah (Sally) Catherine Wagner (nee Clancy), 92, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2023. Sally was born to Michael and Ellen Clancy (nee Slattery) on January 10, 1931, in Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan. Sally was one of seven children which included five sisters and one brother. In 1949, Sally graduated from St. Ambrose High School and then attended Nursing School at Mercy College becoming a Registered Nurse. Sally was introduced to Frank I. Wagner on a blind date, they were married in 1957 and they formed the foundation of a large loving family with four daughters and three sons until Frank's death in 1995.
A devout Catholic, Sally (also Sarah) was an active member of the St. Matthew's Parish in Detroit, Michigan for more than sixty years. She was a passionate member and volunteer for the Right to Life of Michigan.
Prior to the arrival of her first child, Sally worked as a Registered Nurse at St. John Hospital and returned to work part-time when all of her children were in school, finally retiring in 1992.
After retiring, Sally enjoyed annual family vacations to northern Michigan with her children and grandchildren and always welcomed family members into her home for visits and a home-cooked meal. She was an accomplished gardener and knitter and enjoyed playing euchre and pinochle with family and friends.
Sally was preceded in death by her six siblings, who were among her best friends: Mary Ellen Petit, Elizabeth Pellerito, Frances McGinnis, Patricia Holtgrieve, Louise Ward, and Michael Clancy.
Sally was a loving mother to seven children: Anne Moceri (Dave), Joseph (Maryterese), Barbara Hanes (the late John Hanes), Patricia Zapico (Mark), Stephen (Lisa), Peter (Eric) and Deborah Spellman (Kieran). She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren: Jeffrey, Joshua, Emma, Linda, Daniel, Leeann, John V. , Rebecca, Eric, Kaelyn, Frank, Henry and Catherine. Sarah was also the proud great-grandmother to Everly, Lucy, Layla, Stella, Fiona and Remy. She is also survived by many loving friends, neighbors, In-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Sally's family deeply appreciates the care provided by the staff at Beechwood Manor and by Hospice.
Visitation will be held at A. H. Peters Funeral Home on November 29, 2023 at 2pm, with a rosary service at 7pm.
A funeral mass is scheduled on November 30 at 10am at St. Matthew Church in Detroit. (Whittier at Harper).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Right to Life of Michigan, Hospice or the Michigan Alzheimer Association.Show more
