Christine Scott was born on February 27, 1937 (the fifth child of eleven siblings) to Levi Lewis Sr. and Olley Lewis (both deceased) in Proctor, Arkansas. Christine attended Gobler Elementary School in Gobler, Missouri, and graduated from Central High School in Hayti, Missouri. During her high school years, she sold Jet magazines. Shortly afterward, Christine journeyed to Chicago, attended Kennedy King College, and went to night school to further her education. She then went on to study teaching and received her Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois, and later obtained a Master of Arts degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Concordia University in River Forest, Illinois. In 2018, Christine graduated from Charis Bible College in Schererville, Indiana. Christine started her first job at Ludwig Van Beethoven Elementary School, Chicago, Illinois, and continued her professional career working as a preschool and Elementary Teacher for over 35 years with the Chicago Public Schools. Christine impacted her students in and outside the classroom with her creative learning style and left a legacy for others to succeed against all odds. As a young adult, Christine Scott accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and was a faithful member of Freedom Temple Church of God in Christ, Chicago, Illinois for many years. She then moved to Gary, Indiana, and joined the House of the Lord Church where she dedicated her time and spiritual gifts to serve the body of Christ. Christine later moved to the south suburbs of Chicago and joined Homewood Full Gospel Church (now known as All Nations Community Church), South Holland, Illinois where she was active in prayer and bible study, women's ministry, children's ministry, and was a Sunday School teacher. After many years of public service, Christine Scott retired from the Chicago Public Schools, but remained active as a substitute teacher, tutoring both children and adults in the Chicago metropolitan area and surrounding suburbs. She loved traveling abroad, photography, reading, gardening, attending Christian conferences, and pet/animal rescue. She also wrote and published two books - Trunkey, a children's book (2015), and The Three Houses: Not Enough, Just Enough, and More than Enough (2018). Christine Scott is predeceased by her mother and father (Levi Lewis Sr. and Olley Lewis), brothers- Levi Lewis, Jr. , and George Lewis; sisters- Harrietta Fields and Delores Lewis. She is survived by her loving siblings: brother- Richard (Ruthie) Lewis, Chicago, Illinois; sister- Bertha Runnals, Kansas City, Missouri; brother- Pastor James A. Evangelist Cynthia Bowen went to her heavenly home on November 15, 2023. She was born on September 25, 1952 to the late Willie Louis and Mary Jackson from Warm Springs, Georgia. She gave her life to the Lord as a young woman in 1972. She met the love of her life freshman year at Waller High School in Chicago. Cynthia and Madison Bowen were married for 49 years and produced 3 offspring. Since that time she has worked fervently in the church in many capacities. Her love and patience for young people gave her the opportunity to work as the local Sunshine Band Big Sister and Children's Sunday School Teacher. For many years Evangelist Bowen has been a strong advocate for the church Building Fund. She spearheaded many fruitful projects such as the Bake Sale, Pancake Breakfast, Clothes Drive and Annual Building Fund Banquet. From all of her hard work the Lord continuously elevated her to many positions in the church. She held office as the Local Church Missionary, District Chairlady and State Purity Lady. Evangelist Bowen was recently appointed National Prayer Warrior at the 115th COGIC International Holy Convocation August 2023 in Durham, North Carolina. Her concerns about the plight of the nation, led Evangelist Bowen to write a letter to President Biden in 2021. She was delighted to receive a written response from the White House in December of that year. Since 2021, led by the Holy Spirit, she organized and spearheaded a weekly Call to Prayer for the nation with women of God faithfully praying in over 17 states, with the goal of reaching all 50. Evangelist Bowen was instrumental in helping her husband Bishop Madison Byron Bowen start New Holy Zion COGIC in 2000 where she served as First Lady and Administrator. Throughout the years Evangelist Bowen has been a strong soul winner, witnessing to anyone, anywhere, and whenever, given the opportunity. Jessie was born on December 29, 1933 to the union of Jessie B. and Hattie Mary Madlock in Sardis, Mississippi. Jessie accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and attended Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Batesville, Mississippi, New Hope in Chicago, Illinois and Rock of Ages Baptist Church in Maywood, Illinois, under the leadership of Pastor Thomas H. Wade and later Marvin E. Wiley. Jessie attended school in Batesville, Mississippi. He worked in Mississippi, Tennessee and Texas before relocating to Illinois. Upon his arrival in the Chicago area, he worked at several different employers including Coca-Cola, General Motors, M&M Mars, Proviso Area for Exceptional Children (PAEC) and the Maywood Library. Jessie's work ethic was exemplary, and he gave his all with every position he held. Jessie, who was affectionately called Sweet Daddy and Sweets, was well known for his wonderful sense of humor, tough love and his ability to repair anything. He enjoyed family events, fishing, rubby dubbys and the Blues. He enjoyed giving out nicknames, providing directions and being the favorite dance partner to every niece. Jessie married Essie Hurt and to their union 1 child was born: Micheal Madlock. Later, Jessie married Ruby Brown in Chicago, IL. Together they raised five children: Jessie Hugh, Patricia, Jacquelyn, Keith and Janette. Jessie was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie B. and Hattie Mary Madlock; his wife Ruby Madlock; his son Micheal Madlock; his siblings: Lee Bertha, Lewis, Walter, Lucy, Martha, and Sarah. Reflections Of Life Tommie Lee Woods, Jr. Was born on January 5, 1946, in Fort Worth, Texas to Tommie Lee Woods, Senior, and Mattie Mae (Murphy) Woods. He attended Como Junior - Senior School in Fort Worth, Texas graduating in the "Class of 1964. " After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army in 1965 and was honorably discharged in 1971. Tommie Lee Woods, Jr met the love of his life Loretta Powell and married on March 13, 1973. They moved to Chicago where they raised their children. He worked at Nabisco for 35 years and retired in 2006. Tommie Le Woods, Jr. Departed this life on Tuesday October 31, 2023.
