Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not upon thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. ~ Proverbs 3:5-6 On Tuesday, November 9, 1937, God blessed Eugene and Sallie Mae Hardeman with a beautiful baby girl, the fourth child out of ten siblings, whom they named Florina Hardeman. The name "Florina" means to flourish, to prosper, and to blossom. Throughout her life, God blessed her to truly actualize all that her name encompassed. Florina was a dedicated servant of Christ who believed in serving the Lord with gladness (Psalm 100:2). Florina grew up in Jacksonville, Florida and graduated with Honors from Matthew W. Gilbert High School in 1956. After graduating from high school, Florina attended Brewster Duval School of Nursing and became a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). She worked as a nurse at Duval Medical Center and the US Naval Air Station Hospital in the Jacksonville area before retiring with 42 years of service in the healthcare profession. After her retirement, Florina spent her time serving the Lord, reading, and supporting her family and friends. In addition, she loved traveling to the beautiful beaches of Hawaii, the Bahamas, and Destin, Florida. She was also an avid football fan - until it became too stressful and nerve-wracking to watch. As a faithful member of the Northside Church of Christ in Jacksonville, Florida, she took seriously the call to bring souls to Christ. She started each day spending time with the Lord, praying and reading her scriptures as she enjoyed a good cup of coffee. She would consistently remind her family and friends that God was always in control and that His plans were her plans, almost always prefacing answers to questions about proposed plans or actions with, "if it's the Lord's Will". Another one of her favorite teachings was that "God does not make mistakes. . . He knows what He's doing", further demonstrating her absolute trust and faith in God. She also enjoyed traveling to or attending the Women's Retreats when she was able and drew strength from the sisterhood formed during these conferences. Florina was married to her beloved husband, Frank Seward, for 47 years, prior to the Lord calling him home in March of 2019. She cherished their love and was grateful to God for blessing them to have those special years together. She was the epitome of a wife, a mother, and a friend-always serving, always supporting, always praying. Those Florina has left to cherish her memory include her four children, Eddie (Shan) Cooper, Tony (Condace) Cooper, Deborah (Erroll) Byrd, and Gary (Mara) Cooper; thirteen grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; brothers, Leroy Hardeman and Ralph Taylor; sister, Alice Austin; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Florina was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Sallie Mae Hardeman; siblings: Eugene Hardeman, Roosevelt Hardeman, Willie James Hardeman, Leonard Hardeman, Mary Hardeman, Martha Walker, Rose Patterson, and Bernice Anderson.Show more

"Jack Joseph Gabriel, son of Joseph George Gabriel and Mary Naim Gabriel, was born in Baghdad, Iraq on June 7, 1950, and passed into the eternal life in the hope of the Lord on November 30, 2023 at the age of 73. Raised in a close-knit Catholic family, Jack was the eldest of his siblings, with four other brothers and a sister. Reared and educated at the American Jesuit run Baghdad College, Jack was a professional civil engineer who designed bridges and complex transportation systems all over the world from the seismic sun-drenched mountains of California to the swampy wetlands of Florida, from the deserts of Qatar, UAE and Kuwait to the Roman Empire-conquered mountainsides of Turkey and Romania. In his various travels with his family Jack was also able to simultaneously pursue his tremendous affinity for studying life, culture and history. He voraciously consumed the ancient classics, reading book after book of historical literature, particularly the writings of the Doctors and Saints of the Catholic Church, and all those who follow Christ. His life was devoted to charitable works serving the Church; he was an active member and past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus; He taught CCD in most of the Churches that he attended through the years, from Kuwait to Jacksonville. He had an incredible taste in music, particularly classical music, and was a member of the Catholic Church choir for many years. He was a parishioner and dedicated member at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in the late 70s and 80s and then after moving back to Jacksonville in the 1990s became an active member and parishioner at St. Ephrem's Catholic Church and St. Paul's Catholic Church. Like his father before him, he was dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and devoted to the Blessed Mother. His deep affection for the historical Judeo-Christian ideals of America's foundation prompted his rooted respect for America and a vigorous desire to protect and preserve that heritage. His motto in life was two-fold: "If you want human answers, ask humans; if you want divine answers, ask God" and \u0026quot;God's will be done\u0026quot;. A proud husband of Rania M. Gabriel and loving father of three, Jason R. Gabriel, Joseph S. Gabriel and Maryam T. Gabriel, as well as a doting grandfather to 6 beautiful grandchildren. Age - 96

December 4, 2023

"Dr. James Scheiman, age 96, passed peacefully in his sleep at home surrounded by family on Tuesday, November 21, 2023. James was born on September 26, 1927 in Cleveland Ohio and is now back in the arms of his loving wife of 65 years, Jennie, whom he lost in 2017. He was also preceded in death by one son, Joseph Scheiman, and is survived by his remaining six children, Jerome Scheiman of Jacksonville FL, John Robert Scheiman and wife Susan Scheiman of Elizabethton TN, Joan Scheiman Smithey of Jacksonville FL, Jeffrey Scheiman and wife Debbie Scheiman of Smithfield VA, Janet Scheiman Blankenship of Whitesburg TN, and Julie Scheiman Hale and husband Alan Hale of Normandy TN. He is also survived by 14 loving grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, three brothers (Edmund Scheiman of Atlanta GA, Thomas Scheiman and wife Elaine of Cleveland Ohio, and Charles Scheiman of Cleveland Ohio) and many nieces, nephews and cousins. After graduating from Ohio State University with a Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1951, James moved to St Louis to work for McDonald Douglas aircraft, where he met Jennie, the love of his life. He was then called upon to fulfill his commission with the military, and entered the US Air Force at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. After completing his active-duty commitment, James continued his military service for another 10 years in the reserves, attaining the rank of captain, while now working on helicopter design for the Department of Defense in the Aeronautical Research Laboratory at Wright Patterson. He later transferred to NASA Langley Research Center in Virginia where he continued his schooling, receiving his Masters of Science degree in Engineering Mechanics at Virginia Tech in 1969 and his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Engineering Mechanics at Virginia Tech in 1972. His research projects at NASA included research and testing on the Space Shuttle. He retired from NASA in 1984. James resided in Jacksonville with his daughter Joan for the past 15 years. James always had an interest in aerodynamics and flying, having received his private pilot's license while he was attending Ohio State University and being a member in the American Helicopter Society; therefore, volunteering at the Sun N-Fun Air Show in Lakeland, FL for 25 years fulfilled his passion for flying after his retirement. While living in Hampton, VA, James was also active with the Boy Scouts and served as Water Safety Chairman and Instructor for the American Red Cross. James was avid about exercise and healthy living and overcame several health-related obstacles throughout his life, including full recovery from a brain aneurysm in 1985 and a knee replacement after an injury incurred while hiking the Appalachian Trail. He also battled many challenges after suffering a severe hemorrhagic stroke in 2018. James was a loving husband, father and grandfather who always set a beautiful example of God's love and unselfishness and how to raise a loving and caring family. He was always available to help with car repairs, home building projects and anything mechanical, and made it a priority to attend graduations, weddings, and births for all of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was blessed to be very active in the lives of his grandchildren (Carlton, Carla, Daniel, Matthew, Stephanie, Rebekah, Rosemary, John, Monica, Katherine, James, Ian, Vanessa and Joseph). He was also able to spend time with all 17 of his great-grandchildren (Calvin, Marcus, Caleb, Carter, Thane, Jade, Gavin, Jackson, Mason, Weston, Peter, Jesse, Hope, William, Robert, Matthew and Bonnie).
