Archie "Lewis" Castle, 77, of Zionville, NC, went to his Heavenly home on Friday, October 6, 2023, surrounded by loved ones. He was born May 27, 1946, to the late Vernon Archie and Opal Lewis Castle. Other than his parents, Lewis was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, Will and Faustean Lipford Sanders of Zionville, NC and one sister, Ellen Potter of Charlotte, NC. Lewis was a veteran, serving in the U. S. Marine Corp during the Vietnam War. He was a Textile Engineer for Leesona Corp of Burlington, NC for 47 years. Lewis worked until the age of 70, traveling the world installing, and teaching training classes for a variety of textile applications. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Lewis loved to fish and work on cars. He loved his family dearly, and was an incredibly kind and generous man, always eager to help anyone in need. Lewis is survived by his wife of 58 years, Carolyn Sanders Castle; one daughter, Amy Davis, and husband Michael; one granddaughter, Megan Terry, and husband Matthew; two great-granddaughters who were the joy of his life, Maddelyn Kate, and Leighton Jane Terry, all of Zionville, NC. He is also survived by a sister, Verna Eller and husband Bill Bardos of Chesnee, SC; niece, Risa Graeger and husband Mike of College Grove, TN, Niece Shannon Potter Nejeschleba of Rock Hill, SC and a number of great nieces and nephews; cousins and his best friend, Jessee South of Zionville, NC. Lewis was incredibly loved by his family and will be missed dearly. Services are pending at this time and will be announced. Jack Wayne Swift Jack Wayne Swift, age 85, of Mountain City, TN passed away on Sunday morning, December 3, 2023 in Texas. He was born March 22, 1938 in Johnson County TN to the late Isaac Allen Swift and Carrie Emeline Harper Swift. In addition to his parents Jack was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years Mary J. Ward Swift, brother, Charles Ray Swift, brother-in-law, Theodore "Ted" Shores. Jack was a graduate of Johnson County High School class of 1956 then attended King College. He was a United States Army Veteran. Jack was former sports editor and current columnist for The Tomahawk newspaper, working for 30 years in newspaper, writing "This & That" column for the Tomahawk since 2003. He served with the Johnson County Historical Society and was past president. Jack was the Historian for Johnson County. He was a member of American Legion Post 61, past adjutant and vice commander. Jack also was with the Country Music Band- The Country Cousins. Jack was a member of First Christian Church, former Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon on Church Board. Those left to cherish his memories include his sisters-in-laws, Nancy Carol Shores and Nora Mae Swift; Niece, Debbie Flanders & husband John of Sherman Texas, nephew, Greg Swift & wife Shelia of Powell TN, great nieces, Emily Flanders and Melissa Zevallos, great nephews, Allen Flanders, Adam and Joshua Swift, cousins and friends. The family will receive friends from 12:00 - 2:00 on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at Mountain City Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 with Minister Dwayne Dickson officiating, Music by Nancy Davis. Entombment will follow the funeral from the Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum. Pallbearers will be Allen Flanders, Donnie Henson, Ronnie Henson, Travis Long, Tony Long, Adam Swift, Joshua Swift and Oscar Zevallos. Honorary pallbearers are First Christian Church Board members. Military honors to be accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard. Shirley Ann Watson, age 78 went home to be with her Lord and Savior peacefully on December 1, 2023 at Hermitage Health Center. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Wade Watson, her parents Spencer and Doris Jenkins, one brother David Kevin Jenkins and a daughter Kimberly Carol Watson. Shirley had lived her entire life on Stoney Creek and had many friends that she loved dearly. She was a member of Bible Baptist Church. She loved puzzles, coin collecting, quilting, hunting ginsing and being in the woods. She loved her grandchildren Seth and Mikayla Medley. She is survived by one daughter Margaret Watson Medley and husband Randy of Mountain City, Tn. sister Betty Jo Odom of Jonesborough, Tn. , sister Rose Hypes and husband Roger of Locust, NC. Grandchildren Seth Medley and Mikayla Medley of Mountain City, Tn. and several neices and nephews. Special friends Bealuh Grindstaff and Betty Carden. A visitation will be held from 1:00 - 2:00 PM on Sunday, December 3, 2023 at Memorial Funeral Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Leonard Fletcher officiating. The burial will follow to Ensor Cemetery. Mary K. Reece age 90 of Mountain City, TN passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2023 in the Hermitage Health & Rehabilitation Center in Elizabethton, TN. She was born June 4, 1933 to the late James Edgar Rash and Ann Stout Rash. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Luther D. "Luke" Reece; son-in-law, Chuck Jenkins; three sisters, Zelma Young, Betty Shutt and Ruth Caudill; three brothers, Leslie Rash, Dean Rash and Billy R. Rash. Mary was a homemaker and was very active in her church at Roan Creek Baptist, where she taught Sunday school. Those left to cherish her memories include her daughters, Carolyn Dalton (Bob) of Walland, TN and Diane Jekins of Mountain City, TN; son, David Reece (Jennifer) of Maryville, TN; brother, Charles Johnson (Lura) of Mountain City, TN; grandchildren, Nathan Jenkins (Rebecca), Lesley Hughes (Josh), Rob Reece (Madison), Lucas Reece, Anna Reece, David Dalton, Rebkah Dalton and Sarah Dalton; great grandchildren, Eli Jenkins, Savannah Jenkins, Jordan Hughes and Harrison Fortenberry and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service for Mary will be conducted on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at 11:30 am at the Roan Creek Baptist Church with Pastor David Hankle officiating. "We just have to take this a day at a time. "Peggy Ann May, 61, lifelong resident of Trade, TN, moved to her heavenly home November 21, 2023. Mom lived a blessed life and made the best of each day and each situation she faced. She was beyond brave, she loved fiercely, and she stood firm for what she believed in. Peggy was born November 13, 1962 in Dr. Bundy's office in Mountain City, TN to the late Tipton and Anna Belle Ragan. She was the youngest of their three children. She worked at Harris Teeter for almost 20 years. Peggy later went to Bristol School of Hair Design and had a very successful career as a hairdresser for nearly 23 years in her own shop. Mom always worked hard for what she had. She was a selfless person who believed in helping others when they were trying to help themselves. Mom wasn't much of a homebody; she enjoyed traveling and seeing new places. Sunset Beach, NC was her home away from home. Mom was a bright light to so many. She was a counselor, friend, and confidante. Mom attended Hammons Chapel Christian Church in Mountain City. She has many people in heaven who were awaiting her arrival, including her momma and daddy, husband Danny May, niece Amanda Costigan, a grandchild she never got to meet, and several precious friends. Those left to cherish the memories include her daughters Keila Ragan-Wise (Darrell), Adrienne Holman (James), granddaughters Kaitlin Holman and Emily Holman, brother Neal Ragan, sister Pat Puett (Pat), aunt Margaret "Tootsie" Wallace, nieces Gina Taggart (Jim) and Sonia Ragan, great nieces and nephews (who she considered more as grandkids) Nova Segreti, Jenna Reece, Tanner Putnam, Shainna Putnam, Eli Costigan, and Emma Costigan, special friend and companion Wayne Sims, special cousin Martha Nelson (Rocky), special friends Winnie and Calvin Wilson, Debbie and JV Potter, and Rhona and Clive Morris, several cousins, many other friends, cats Lightning, Tiger, Skunkie, and Nosey, and bird Zappa, and grandpup Pip. Funeral services for Peggy May will be held Saturday, November 25, 2023 in the Charles B. Hux Chapel at Hux-Lipford Funeral Home in Mountain City, TN. The family will receive friends from 11:00-2:00 with the funeral to immediately follow. Neal Ragan and Minister Josh Giddings will officiate. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum. Pallbearers will be Keila Ragan-Wise, Adrienne Holman, Darrell Ragan-Wise, James Holman, Eli Costigan, Rocky Nelson, JV Potter, and Dan Lipford. Peggy's family would sincerely like to thank Dr. Kanishka Chakraborty, Amanda Gregg, the staff of Johnson City Cancer Care, and Dr. Patel and 2nd Floor staff of Franklin Woods Community Hospital for everything they did to help Peggy through this battle.
