Leta Carlson, Sioux Falls, SD, passed away Friday, October 6, 2023, at Pondarosa Sr. Living Center in Sioux Falls. She was 91. Leta Rose (Ortman) Carlson was born March 25, 1932, at Marion, SD, to Mose and Myrtie (Strong) Ortman. She graduated from Marion High School. Leta worked as a waitress at Home Cafe and Tiezen Cafe in Marion. She then moved to Sioux Falls where she worked as a bookkeeper for National Reserve Life Insurance Co. Leta was united in marriage to Ronald on January 15, 1955. She then worked for Howard Mobile Homes, FMHA, Shopko, and K-Mart. She was president of Women's Auxiliary, president of Pin Setters League, vice president and president of a Home Owners Association in Florida, and was Queen Mother of Red Hat Ladies. Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Ronald Carlson; sons, Donald Carlson, Allan Carlson; daughter, Dawn Norton; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, and three sisters. Arrangements are pending at this time. .

Victor Jean Jacquot went to be with the Lord on Monday November 27, 2023. He passed away peacefully at home in his sleep surrounded by his family at the age of 75. Vic was a consummate story teller and always ready with a fresh tale of yesteryear and the history of Sioux Falls. Vic was born on August 22, 1948 in Casper, WY, to Victor & Margaret (Sellers) Jacquot. As a child Vic lost is father in a tragic car accident. Growing up, Vic moved across the Great Plains states, first to the Billings, Montana area,then attending high school in Mandan North Dakota. Vic was raised by his Step Father, Judd Booth and Mother Margaret. They lived in several towns across the Dakotas including Aberdeen, South Dakota and Mandan North Dakota. Eventually Vic settled inSioux Falls, South Dakotawhere he lived for over 50 years. Vic had the opportunity to be a part of the SD Civil Air Patrol and several other civic activities in his youth. In his youth Vic developed a fascination with Radio broadcasting. He was an avid listener of radio his entire life. While attending Sioux Falls Collage he had the opportunity to work at Sioux Falls radio station KISD. He also worked at KELO in radio and television announcing. His on-the-air name was Johnny Knight. During those times he had the chance to meet many interesting and famous people who came to Sioux Falls for events and concerts. These experiences were many of his fondest memories and best stories. In his late 20s Vic trusted Christ as his personal Savior. This was a transformational moment in Vic’s life. From this point on in his life he was a dynamic witness for Christ, never missing an opportunity to share his personal testimony of Christ’s redemption with anyone willing to listen. Vic became active in a small local church in Sioux Falls, located on East 41st Street. At that time the name of the church was Sioux Valley Baptist Church. Vic was instrumental in the growth and out-reach of the church. Vic made many life-long friendships through the church. Vic married his wife, Vickie, at the church on January 2, 1982. Together Vic and Vickie served as volunteers and faithful witnesses in several local Sioux Falls Churches and through the Gideon’s International Ministry. In the 1980s Vic started a business "Vic Jacquot Financial Marketing. " The business served agricultural focused financial institutions with various marketing and operations services. The agency was his pride and joy and his clients were some of his best friends. He invested a tremendous amount of time to sit down with his clients and share long conversations about diverse topics. This built strong decades-long working relationships with many of his clients. Vic also worked with Nordstrom’s "Under the Hood Show" radio broadcast and "Ask the Motor Medics" newspaper column and enjoyed being part of their team. Vic loved Life! He was a consummate traveler having traveled extensively to many states across America and multiple countries abroad. Through his work he had the opportunity to visit almost every county and many of the small rural towns of the Great Plains and Midwestern states. He also enjoyed many hobbies including walking his two Golden Retrievers through Riverdale Park, taking bicycle rides around the Sioux River bike trails and hiking and fishing. Vic was a gifted writer and story teller. He often regaled his friends and family with stories of Sioux Falls and of his various travels and adventures. He wrote text for ministry and business projects including extensive advertising copy. Vic created multipleadvertising campaigns such "Hometown Banking With Your Neighbors And Friends"and "Banking On A First Name Basis. " These campaigns and others were used extensively in small community media outlets across the Midwest. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Vickie, son, Michael, three sisters, Judy, (husband, Gayle), Linda and Terry all of Texas, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.Show more

Rock Valley, Iowa – Shirley Mae Pluss Dale Hansen, 94 of Rock Valley, died Monday, December 4, 2023, surrounded by her children, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Private Family Funeral Service will be 10:30 a. m. Friday, December 8, 2023, at Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley, Iowa with Pastor Jim Sweers officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 p. m. to 8:00 p. m. Thursday at Porter Funeral Home. The Hansen family prefers memorials be directed to the Rock Valley Golf Course or Hegg Health Center in Shirley’s memory. Shirley Mae Hansen was born September 17, 1929, near Ireton, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Grace (Mandan) Pluss. Her mother, Grace, died when she was 18 months old. Shirley was raised by Ray and Freda (Freerksen) Dale on a horse farm. Her lifelong love for horses came from growing up on the Dale farm. She graduated from Hawarden High School and attended Wayne State College. She ran a ladies’ dress shop in Hawarden. Shirley married Ken Hansen (John Kenneth) on September 17, 1955, in Hawarden. Shirley spent many evenings watching Ken play baseball. Ken died on June 16, 2013. Shirley enjoyed Bridge, bowling, golfing, reading, and knitting. She knitted sweaters for all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had requests often to make what her grandchildren called "earthquake" cookies. She and Ken enjoyed many years wintering in Green Valley, Arizona. Shirley is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ken; brothers, Howard and Rudy Pluss; sisters, Irene Kratchovil-Gosch, Evonne Kane-Graf, and Neva Oldham. Shirley is survived by her two sons, Dave and Erin of Rock Valley, Paul and Annette of Brookings, SD; four grandchildren, Matthew (Sara) Hansen of Renner, SD, Joshua (Kayla) Hansen of Rock Valley, Ashley (Drew) Hedlund of Brookings, SD, Stacey Hansen of Brookings, SD; seven great grandchildren, Ryker, FloraMae, Sylas, Kennedy, Finn, Jax and Maya; numerous nieces and nephews.Show more

Marjorie Hanson

Marjorie Bess Hanson, 85, wife of The Late Milton Hanson, of Sioux Falls, SD passed away on Monday, December 4, 2023 at Ava's House in Sioux Falls, SD. Visitation with the family present to greet friends will be 10:00 am - 11:30 am with a Graveside beginning at 12 Noon Friday, December 8, at Woodlawn Cemetery, Sioux Falls, SD. Memorial Services will be 11:00 am Friday, December 29 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 909 W, 33rd Street, Sioux Falls, SD. Marjorie was born October 13, 1938 in Winona MN to Henry and Venetta (Clark) Niedringhaus. She grew up with her four siblings in Mobridge, SD. Marj loved being a Mobridge Tiger, homecoming queen, proud member of the class of 1956. She went to Augustana College to major in elementary education, where she met Milton Hanson of Mitchell, SD. She taught school in Mobridge until they married June 25, 1961. Marj and Milt moved to Houston TX where Milt was working on his PhD. She taught for one year before Paul's birth in 1962. Upon receiving his doctoral degree, Milt was offered a temporary position teaching at Augustana, one which lasted 40 years. Peter was born in 1966 and they bought the house on South Prairie Ave, their home for over 50 years. Marj's life revolved around her family, good neighbors, the Augustana Community, and Our Savior's Lutheran Church. She worked part time in the church music office and volunteered in the church library; as secretary for Augie's campus ministry (1982-1985); and as receptionist in the SD Synod office of the ELCA (1986-1996). Marj loved gardening, playing piano, stitchery, reading, church activities, and the Augustana community life. In retirement, she and Milt traveled, watched birds, hung out with the Golden Vikings, enjoyed their five grandchildren, and relished their lifelong friendships. Marj was diagnosed with dementia, Milt with pulmonary disease. They moved to Dow Rummel Village in 2019. Milt died March 8, 2020; Marj moved into memory care, then the nursing care wing in 2023. She died in Ava's House Hospice Monday Dec. 4, 2023. Marj is survived by her sons Rev. Paul Hanson (Karen Christenson); Peter Hanson (Elizabeth); 5 grandchildren Katrina Rumage (Seth) and their children Ariella and Nathaniel; Luke Hanson (Jessa Anderson-Reitz); Philip Badger Hanson (Ellen); Megan Hanson and Charlie Hanson; brother Dr. Robert Niedringhaus (Ann); sister-in-law Mary Niedringhaus; brother John Niedringhaus (Jan); brother-in-law Curt Lund; in-laws Rodney and Karen (Hanson) DeJong; nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband Dr. Milton P. Hanson; her brother Rev. Don Niedringhaus (Mary) and sister MaryAnn Lund (Curt).
