"Funeral services for Lena Barrera, 74 of Giddings, Texas, are scheduled for 10:00 a. m. on Thursday, September 14, 2023 at St. Margaret Catholic Church in Giddings with Father Miguel Duarte officiating. Burial will follow in the Giddings City Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 from 8:00 a. m. until 8:00 p. m. and on Thursday, September 14, 2023 from 7:00 a. m. until 9:00 a. m. at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. The family will be present for visitation Wednesday evening from 5:00 p. m. until 8:00 p. m. with a Rosary being recited Wednesday evening at 6:00 p. m. at the funeral home. Lena Ann (Muniz) Barrera was born on December 31, 1948 in Giddings, Texas, the daughter of Matilde and Rosa (Esparza) Muniz. She married Fidencio "Lanch" Barrera on August 18, 1968 at St. Margaret Catholic Church in Giddings. She was a hard worker her entire life having worked at B \u0026amp; W Grocery, Walmart and the Giddings Elementary School, where she was a cook. She was a devoted Catholic and a lifelong member of St. Margaret Catholic Church in Giddings. In addition to being an active member of her church, she volunteered countless hours with Rejuvenation in Giddings. Lena fought a fierce battle against cancer since 2007. It was during this time that she became a huge supporter of the Lee County Cancer Resource Center, of which she had served as one of the annual calendar models, and the Lee County Relay for Life. Throughout her life, and especially during her long and hard-fought battle with cancer, she never wavered from her faith but rather clung to it for her strength. She enjoyed antiquing and taking care of her animals, Fluffy and Sesame. Lena passed away the evening of Friday, September 8, 2023, surrounded by her family, at Oakland Manor Nursing Center in Giddings. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Theodore Muniz, Genaro Muniz \u0026amp; his wife, Eva, and Howard Muniz; five sisters, Lupe Redkey \u0026amp; her husband, Malcolm, Josie Kuntz \u0026amp; her husband, Fred, Marie Muniz \u0026amp; her husband, Maurilo, Kay Chew \u0026amp; her husband, Alfred and Lorene Holman, and one brother-in-law, Fred Silgero. Lena is survived by her brother, Louis Muniz Sr. \u0026amp; his wife, Andrea of Giddings; three sisters, Gloria Guajardo \u0026amp; her husband, Ben of Georgetown, Frances Silgero of Magnolia, and Hope Holman \u0026amp; her husband, Clyde of Amarillo; two sisters-in-law, Teresa Muniz of Giddings and Rosie Muniz of La Grange; one brother-in-law, Norman Holman of Giddings as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
